It's a great model. I have the sound fitted version, which produces a nice soft sound with all the hisses and what not. You can get them at a great place if you look. Super model.

I'm Southern too, but when a model takes my fancy and I have the wherewithal (cash) then a couple of deft clicks before I think too much and it's on its way. My excuse is that there is a shortage of motive power in my layout's area and the local Superintendent is so desperate that anything spare from anywhere has to be utilised!

I have 5 of them, four single box ones and one with the 12"rail gun, ROD legend. My first one was the sound fitted GWR lettered one. I did have some problems with this one, mainly the pickups not touching. All the others have been faultless, non sound versions which have been fitted with Zimo sound decoders, hard wired in place to give more room for a bigger speaker.

I think there are around ten locomotives still operating in China and around twelve in Japan now. They’re still being used for their original purpose, hauling freight!!

I have 2 of these, 2534 in the same livery but sound fitted and 2330 in ROD sand also sound fitted which I got with the rail gun. One point about the video, they were Oxford Rail’s second steam loco release, the first was the Adams Radial Tank. Otherwise a great video of a great model, well worth the rather low outlay in comparison to many other similar sized and quality models.

I have Märklin. And of course Fleischman vagons mostly. Reichbahn. I can build loops without any issues with polarity.

I think it’s a great looking model! Mine is from The same batch as yours but the motor itself is quite noisy… you hear a constant warble on either DC or DCC, I did find it stopped when I got above the BEMF cut off on a LaisDCC decoder so I tried it with a guage master as well, still noisy… did you notice any motor noise at all in your review?

Please can I pick your barins Being new to the hobby I am on a steep learning curve. Recently I brought a Hornby Duchess of Sutherland #6233. Hornby tell me its 44yrs old. The seller said that it had spent most of its life in a display case and looking at the condition of the model its pristine not a scratch or blemish anywhere. My intention was to convert it to DCC. However, when I first tried to run the engine, it would not work. A quick service appeared to sort this out, so I went ahead and fitted a decoder and after much help last Thursday I finally got the engine moving back and forth along a length of track. Friday night I thought it was safe to refit the tender body but decided to give it a quick check was disturbed to fine the engine would not run smooth. The motor was surging so I decided to revert to DC configuration and run the engine in. It didn’t run well at all. I have stripped the engine down and examined everything in detail. The commutator is shinny and unscratched, the brushes show wear only

Firebox or smoke box? The smoke box is the black bit at the front of the locomotive, the firebox is in the footplate area.
