I totally agree with you Joe. You sparked a memory, Andrew at EastonMade mentioned that the Ultra was, in part, designed to compete with kinetic splitters. Chris at In The Woodyard and yourself both started out small with what you had, built your business to what you have grown to, and shared your wisdom with those looking to get a start in the firewood business. Invest with the profits when the cash is in hand, keep the risk low, and debt amount as low as possible =, better to not have any debt. The Super Splitter and the Ultra are both on my list of splitters I would get based on the size, ease of mobility, ease of repairs, and the pure production they both can produce. 👍🏻👍🏻

I think the Ultra is more practical given its power and robustness and prob worth the few extra $$. That of course didn't exist when I bought this SS

@@ohiowoodburnerI agree on that. I think the Ultra is the only lower level Hydraulic splitter that is more efficient than the SS,…and that is only if it has the 4 way wedge on it. Other than that, the other hydraulic models can’t compete.

Hi Joe, another great and informative video. My father purchased one of the very first Super Splits back around 1979. When I was taught how to run the splitter, if we had a log that would not split in one push, we would return the ram and let the fly wheels get back up to speed before we sent the ram again. Very rarely did we encounter a log that we could not split in two or three pushes. Those were the good ol' days. Thank you for another great video!

Hi Milo, I was a Super Split dealer nearly fifty years ago. Ten years ago, I converted mine to electrical power. My next mod is to raise the height of the table. When my wife and I were discussing what to leave to our son and daughter, our daughter, who generally hates machines, immediately said, "I want the Super Split!" It never occured to me that it would become a family heirloom. 😊 Shalom/gw

Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. Nice to see Old Faithfull again. However,it looks somewhat sad and neglected so get out the car polish and freshen up the gas tank and casings! To me the big advantage of the Super Split over its fast hydraulic competitors is the lighter weight and therefore greater maneuverability in addition to the lower price point. Too bad they don't sell them them this side of the pond.

Id have killed for one of these, today. Mid 80's, but the sun made you feel like an ant under a magnifying glass... Got a new load of wood today, and needed a few wagons full of small splits to fill a dent in my stack, so i did exactly what youre doing- split right out of the truck. I, however, dont have a super splitter- i have axes. Also like you, most of it was gnarly, knotty, crotchy stuff. We pulled from his heating wood shed, because thst pile is mostly wood I like- ash, oak, and sugar maple. Thus, the splits were huge, and there were lots of boiler chunks. Not a big deal, but it was a miserable day to work that hard! And most pieces required extra effort to split. BUT that kind of wood makes the best firewood! I rewarded myself with roasted corn on the cob, and grilled pork chops. Those sugar maple chunks make tasty pork!

supersplit HD owner from watching how fast it is on your videos,90lb fly wheels. Used to spend all day to try making enough firewood in a day with a 14 second cycle time 30 ton splitter. Now i Can fly thru a facecord tk make small split wood in 20-25 min no problem. With 2 people. I think u could split a facecord in 15 min easily or less. Only thing slowing u down is the time it takes to grab another round. I use waste oil to keep the beam clean and white litium spray grease on the roller. Fast kindling making machine for pine and cedar bundles or smoking wood chunks. Haven't had any issues yet 160 hrs in. Best investment for anyone who sells firewood or wants to get their winters heating wood split fast

Bougjt a different brand of kinetic splitter. I had a green notty pine that had been cut about 8 months ago. It handle the small and medium pieces fine but wouldnt touch the big rounds. Not even if i trued shaving from the outside first. They are fast. I filled my truck bed in 20 minutes. It would have taken an hour and a half at least with my hydraulic splitter. My time is definitely worth the purchase.
