The Clone Wars are now officially over, that was something made very clear by the Bad Batch Season 3. We'll talk that and more on today's Star Wars the Bad Batch video!

Something that I realized this episode is, that the Empire sends Clones to "scout" or "storm" the city to rescue the Governor, but when the fighting is over, we can see TK troopers landing and patrolling/ occupying the city. This really shows, how the empire is "getting rid" of the last clones, sending them in dangerous missions. And Ramparts Quote at the end: "...how these clones (around you) keep disappearing" Thats at least my guess

Also makes sense though from a perspective clones being used for garrisoning they would be a waste so they are being used for storming and combat

One thing that wasn't obvious was if episode 3 was before or after episode 1&2. If it's after, Rampart doesn't seem like the kind of guy who wouldn't punish Crosshair for the reappearance of the Bad Batch on Sereno. Which is why I think ep3 is earlier chronologically.

Agreed. It also shows the developing difference in quality between clones and the average stormtrooper (TK trooper for now). The former are frontline soldiers, whereas the latter is a peacekeeping/occupying force. There's also a lot more of them during the direct occupation of the planet compared to the clones. Quantity over quality.

@@Bobchinski1 i dont think Rampart can afford to punish him openly because he himself is trying to cover up their escape too. If he were to punish Crosshair in some way, he'd need to falsify another report as to why that was needed. Crosshair would have an opportunity to come out with the truth and get Imperial favour over Rampart, or atleast fuck Rampart over while he goes down/attempts to escape. I think it's after, simply because he can't afford to punish. Aswell as the fact that, oh suddenly after this news, Crosshair is medically cleared for combat? Send him on dangerous mission after dangerous mission, maybe he dies on the field so that's one tattler less to worry about.

The way the Clones Theme tried so hard to break through the music and violence, but to only be overshadowed and replaced by Imperial music really got to me. Another powerful thing for me is the fact that Cody does a good chunk of this reflection in front of the Geonosis Memorial, the one made for all the Clones who died on the very first day of the war, from the rock of the planet where it all began. And now that the war is over, Cody's looking at it and thinking back on how everything got from there to here.

I have a very worrying theory that Cody didn't defect. Almost without fail, every clone that has defected, we've seen them on screen more conflicted or at least actually going rogue. Cody looked shaken, not disillusioned. I have a feeling Rampart had him removed quietly, based on how he broke the news to Crosshair. I hope I'm wrong, but there's a dark undertone there and even Crosshair seemed unconvinced.

The episode is interesting as soldiers always say in the end they dont fight for their county or a cause, in the battle its for their unit, their mates next to them. The episode shows that Crosshair realizes he is alone. He doesnt have a unit, and at the end he again is alone and in a new unit where he doesnt know anyone, unlike Cody from the assignment before, which he thought he´d meet again. It seems to dawn on him that him following orders didnt make him friends, he loses one after another because he is following orders instead of supporting his mates and ends up with people that dont care about him at all.

Battle droids have always been the good guys. One reason is you have less civilian or organic casualties using them, two is that the true Separatists just wanted to get away from the corrupt republic, three you don't have massive problems like defections in the droid army, sure they can be reprogrammed, but even Anakin mentioned that it was difficult to reprogram them, all the way back in Clone Wars Season one or two on Iego. They are ultimately the most humane way to wage war in the galaxy.

If you pay attention to crosshair you can see it in his expressions. This is not at all what he signed up for. He was unknowingly more used to the names the clones had given themselves and when Rampart keeps using numbers instead it nails home the clones are obsolete. The look on Cody’s face when they’re leaving the planet when he meets the new imperial governors eyes. That ‘take a good look at your replacements’. And the small interaction at the end between Cody and crosshair. Crosshair is coming to his own crossroads now. Is he going to stick it out and remain truly loyal and be a full fledged imperial. I can see him rejoining clone force 99. Because that old crosshair is still in there, how he handled the droids it was evident the old him was still very alive. And having so many of his brother’s defecting and having more and more clones being concerned about the increase of TK troopers. A clone rebellion is so on the verge of being a thing you can almost taste.
@louiswinterhoff334

You can really see how the Empire is replacing the clones in this episode. Only clones are sent in to secure the city, and you only see regular troopers come in to garrison it. Even just before Cody gets on the shuttle to depart, he turns around to see another shuttle open to another squad of tk troopers.

When the shuttle was shot down, I genuinely thought Cody died. I assumed that based on the title of the episode that crosshair was going to have to finish the mission solo. I thought they were going to demonstrate how little the empire cares about the clones by letting one of them die offhand and barely acknowledge it later. I was relieved to see cody make it through the episode though.

One thing I thought about this episode is it shows that they used the skill of the clones to bulid the foundation of the empire so that they could then the way less skillfull storm troopers to then hold that foundation. Also it showed the difference between The Republic and The Empire. The Republic fought for peace while the Empire fights for control and subjugation.
@extrarice1
@extrarice1 Жыл бұрын
I don't think the Republic was fighting for peace, rather people fighting on behalf of it thought they were. It been laid out that it was a corrupt governing body with the senate and ultimately the war being orchestrated by palpatine. The shows also show that diplomatic solutions were avaiable and attempted but in the end thwarted so that the war would start and continue. The wars are not heroic but useless and getting involved only spelled destruction. This is shown when the Jedi must grapple with the decision to fight in the war or not and them ultimately sacrificing their true calling and becoming corrupted by violence. In the end I think its the rebels that end up fighting for peace but along the way they have to make sure they don't become the thing they are trying to destroy and need to resist becoming corrupted by conflict themselves. I think characters like Luke and Ashoka are emblamatic of that as they are able to accomplish what others had failed before them

The action was a perfect successor to everything that's been seen in the clone wars, taking the strengths and weaknesses of both clones and droids and applying all the tactics the clones learned from the war in new and interesting ways. Also glad to see Crosshair's sniping shenanigans return and be dialed up to 11. It felt like season finale levels of action while still doing silent storytelling throughout it. It was nice in a way to see and hear regular clones still using their names during fire fights for example when Cody shouts out Nova for the last guy to die in his and crossfire Squad against the govenors bodyguard. Cool detail but also slimy is the empire using the clones as the vanguard force for all the fighting, i suppose it's a good way of using a really useful asset to the empires military while also dwindling their numbers to make room for their new TK troopers and having the new stormtroopers just turn up as a show of force for policing the populace once the fighting is done

This episode plays into the case with Wilco last episode where he is not going to falsify a report for his superior as that is not how he does things. This episode shows that while a lot of clone troopers are still serving the empire as intended, plenty of them are feeling disillusioned with the Empire as they come to realize this new order wasn't what they had bled to protect. If anything, Cody feels it and I honestly don't think he could have defected without something happening to him afterwards. A lot of what Cody felt can said about other clones too who are considering defection or simply leaving.

Amazing how many are seething he deserted. Crosshair pretty much has his bitter, angry storyline from legends. It makes sense to focus more on one singular main clone in that type of storyline than several. He was Obi-Wans clone Commander. The Commanders are reflections of the good parts of the Jedi Generals they served as they learned from them. He is obviously a good guy even if he's more the books, but so was obi-wan compared to Anakin, by the books doesn't mean bad or unable to do the right thing when needed and Cody found his moment.. Keeping him as some boring bitter stormtrooper commander like in legends never sat right with me and would be dreadful narratively. Here he can do so much more now that his shackles are gone.

I find it quite interesting how more and more of the "regular" clones one by one begin to realize the things the first-gen ARCs (like the Nulls and Alphas) and Bad Batch noticed from the start. Just goes to show that even the biochip fucking with their mind can't erase the mindset that was once imparted to them.

I think with all the innocent people we see crosshair kill its unlikely he will be redeemed, maybe he'll die doing something to save a teammate or someone else but he will die in the end. I could see it going the Vader route.

You could hear the clone theme barely in the music which I thought was a nice tough, and also the fact that Cody named the clones giving more emphasis to their death, especially nova who was pretty badass for a random clone and I knew he was gonna die but was still said when Cody called his name

interesting that we have clones like echo talking about how they need to build a broader opposition to the empire, clones like rex presumably doing it with ashoka, and mass clone defections as the effects of the inhibitor chip wears off. seems like the perfect stage for clones to form the basis for the early rebellion and perhaps train the new recruits like we saw in the clone wars arc with saw gurera. also note how few clones we see in this episode even though they are in areas where their should be thousands. this is probably signifying that the empire is running out of clones due to defections and deaths.

Oh I love how they are finally going to tell commander Cody’s story and what happened to him after the clone wars. I hope they make this great character have a good story.

Twice in this episode Crosshair looked an awful lot like Agent Kallus right before he defected. I think Crosshair will eventually do the same but I don’t see him returning to his brothers. Rather I think he’ll go out on his own.

Did anyone notice how the Battle Memorial was changed? It no longer has the Republic crest on it. It has nothing but the Clone Troopers designations.

When I seen Crosshair starting to second guess his decision and how he felt after finding out Cody went AWOL. It gave me a similar feeling to the one I got at the end of season 1, during the bombardment of Kamino.

This latest episode showed just how far the clone wars era shows have come. The animations are incredible, and one of the little things I noticed was that the regular clone troopers were generally pretty competent, it used to be that only main characters with hella plot armor would do anything intelligent or useful; which drove me nuts

It was awesome to see the gang again, but I don't feel like the first two had a compelling enough plot. Scavenging Count Dooku's abandoned house isn't how I thought they would begin after escaping Camino, but it's still a thrill to watch 🤘

Scenes we have yet to see - Rex mission Tech racing Gunji Scorch (supposedly, could be a REALLY dark episode since it's involving black ops and the involvement of multiple CC squads) The Kashyyyk/Trandosan stuff. Think that's all that's left, and this is all stuff well see before midseason y'all.

Whilst the defection of Cody was the biggest single event from the episode, the droideka scenes and especially the scene when Cody is looking at not only the new governor but their literal replacements moving in after they're leaving were the best scenes from the Bad Batch show as a whole

A part of me wonders how Cody feels about Order 66. He and Obi-wan were very good friends, and when Order 66 came, Cody unhesitantly shot his friend in the back. He wasn't able to stop himself, and the last time he saw Obi-wan was when he'd fallen after the tank shot at him. For all Cody knows, Obi-wan, his friend, was dead... and it was his fault. Perhaps that's the meaning behind Cody's last words to Crosshair before going AWOL.

I think one of the really cool moments of "Show, don't tell" in this show was after the empire subjugated the city. All TK troopers. We see commander Cody returning to the capital with the injured prisoners and he looks back at the Governor, overseeing a new squad of troopers land on the planet. TK recruits, not his brothers. I noticed something there as he put his helmet on, that he looks... defeated. His entire life, was his brothers. And slowly, quietly, they are being pushed out. No doubt, some clones would have come to terms with Order 66 with the reasoning "Republic or Empire, it's still the Clone Army". Now, it's not even the Clone Army.
