Carl Weathers gets to carry his own action film and he gets stuck with ACTION JACKSON. With some of the worst dialogue ever scripted, this turkey hurts to watch at times. But when you add in an epic cast including Sharon Stone, Vanity, Bill Duke, and a lot of others, things get interestings. Or not.

I went to a convention, was lining up to meet someone. Carl Weathers was seated next to that person and had only the occasional fan come up but he was super nice to every one of them, and inbetween was laughing and joking with the people in my line, and happily taking selfies and shit with people from that line even though they werent there to see him. The guy I lined up for couldnt care less, didnt speak to anyone and didnt even look at me. So no, Carl Weathers isnt an asshole.

best part, this didn't even kill carl weather's career. He kept acting he just did some tv stuff and minor film roles. He also worked with the NFL and CFL during the time his telvision/film career went on part hiatus. Right after this came out he even took a job doing the last season tour of duty the tv show/mini series. He still had jobs available, but he chose football, which was his first passion before acting.

She didn't have her own band. She joined a band of Prince's that was renamed "Vanity 6" after she was recruited to front it. She then quit the band right before "Purple Rain" the movie came out which she was supposed to have the role that went to Prince's next fling, Appalonia. Vanity went on to a solo career after this. She was never part of Prince and the Revolution.
@ExtremelyOnlineGuy

@@eduardopena5893 no she was definitely in the band since it’s inception. Not the revolution but vanity 6. It was gonna be called the hookers and this was when the revolution was gonna be called the rebels and there was even a demo tape for this made with lots of songs that ended up being bsides etc. Raspberry beret was wrote around this time as well. Vanity’s name was gonna be vagina. Prince was just saying fuck it why not then vanity suggested the name vanity and it stuck. And it went from the hookers to vanity 6. 6 for the amount of tits. Fun fact when doves cry is about Susan moonsie from the group. She was the one who’d wear white and was darker than the others. She and prince had a thing going on since they were like 13 and he just dropped her and she cried hysterically and prince was like “hm, amusing, this will be a hit” after that he started doin Wendy’s twin. Which was…interesting. She was supposed to be in under the cherry moon, but was a terrible actress so she was recast.

10:37 Miguel A. Nunez Jr. also had a part in The Return of the Living Dead. The great thing about stunts in 80's movies was that they had to be performed in front of a camera. That's what made them exciting and visceral. Nowadays we have actors hanging on wires in front of green screens.

yeah, pre-internet days were tuff when I was in high school. With 3-6 channels and radio, there wasn't all that much to do so some movies were like being stuck in dive diner. The Menu was always 4+ pages laminated in plastic and always sticky, showing 80 dishes, or worse a buffet. You know 100% that overall it will be sub-par food, but some of it is at least edible, and like this movie, if you're lucky something you actually enjoy.

Vanity (Denise Katrina Matthews) became a Christian a few years after this movie. She became heavely addicted to drugs and it was either give up the drugs or die young. That's was the main reason she turned to Christianity. She had already badly abused and damaged her body, though, and because of her drug abuse her kidneys began to fail her, which lead to her death in 2016 at the fairly young age of 56. Another beautiful actress from Vanity's era I liked was, Apollonia Kotero, the girl who played Prince's love interest in Purple Rain. She was unbelievably gorgeous. Check her out in the Eddie Money (RIP) video-Shakin, and you'll see how pretty she really was.

I just got in to watching an actress from Australia named Cassandra Delany, and while she only has four movie credits on IMDB, I have watched One Night Stand ( a movie about four teenagers who are in the Sydney Opera House on new years day, when a nuclear war breaks out), and Fair Game ( a movie which has been promoted by Tarantino). But why I am commenting here, is that she was the lead female role in a Carl Weathers film named Hurricane Smith, which looks right up the SBIG alley. Just on Cassandra Delany she was once married to John Denver and I have to say she was a very very good looking lady. Just a word of caution, she does not have a good rep, as she was seen as trying to gain a career of John's connections in the entertainment industry.

I've been holding off on watching this ep., because (like you) I own 'Action Jackson' but never watched it. My copy was $2 at Half Price Books (almost worth it). Unfortunately, it was full-screen , so I REALLY got the old skool home video experience. Just watched it last night and had to start my day with SBIG. Nailed it. From the abysmal dialog to the unfunny running gag of the purse snatcher who faints/runs away at the sight of our hero, I was NOT surprised this was 1 and done. But the cast -- holy sh*t! They had actors from so many other VASTLY superior 80s movies (Predator, Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, Commando, Back To The Future). You know the pitch was "we cross Axel Foley with John Matrix and sprinkle in a little Martin Riggs" -- BOOM! Action Jackson! Bad-ass Detroit cop who's jacked and willing to get crazy to get the job done. I agree that it's SBIG, but too bad the script betrayed a well-made action movie. And how lazy was the screenwriter to rely on a random character (a hair stylist?) to tell Action Jackson everything that was going on and set up the final sequence? I'm watching it like, "How the f**k would this gal know ANY of this inside info about the bad guy??" Ugh. Oh well -- RIP Vanity.

I don't know why Carl Weathers didn't get more roles in action movies either. I think maybe it's one of those " one producer didn't like him" or " he had an argument with casting director X" so he got lowkey blacklisted? Who knows..guy had the looks and arguably the talent to be huge at the time, i mean a" guy that kinda looked like Van Damme" (Daniel Bernhardt) was in loads of movies. Robert Z'Dar was the star of a whole franchise ffs!

Oh I guess you guys called it out too. Also I think the Bald dude that gets run over by the Ferrari may have been one of the gunmen that Kills OJ in the beginning of Naked Gun.

I think Action Jackson is absolutely worth a watch for anybody who's into 80s action movies, but it's not a classic. On paper it should be, but it does fall short. Now watch Strike Commando! It's out on Blu-ray and it's a must-see!

I too have a visceral reaction to The Predator, especially when I am reminded its a Shane Black movie. I also get starry-eyed when I see Al Leong. His beautiful facial hair and badass demeanour always starts a countdown until we seem him yell and then high kick or machine gun someone. EDIT: Wait, did Al not kick anyone???!!! I guess you have to check out the Dolph Lundgren actioner from this same director (Dark Angel) now? It's a pseudo trilogy or B-List action stars.
