I grew up on the Christopher Reeve Superman movies and the comics, but Superman is one character I'm not extremely fond of. But Henry Cavill made me care! I absolutely love the more grounded approach to this character and I like where Zack Snyder was headed with him, and Cavills performance got me interested to see more. It's a shame we're never going to get a conclusion to all of this...but what ended up being a very bumpy ride with the DCEU, Cavills Superman was a highlight of it all.

My favorite thing about this movie is the treatment of Jor El's character. It's established that every kryptonian is designed for one purpose. Zodd was a general before he was born. Jor was chosen to be a scientist. He fights two armed guards because he taught himself to fight, which fucking blows Zodd's mind. The amount of work Jor put in and the heresy he committed just to save his family while his world burned was just pure fucking heroic. It's the first time I can remember thinking "It makes sense that superman is this guy's son."

Jonathan Kent was a true father figure. His priority was protecting his wife and son. Clark going with his mom made sure she was safe, and he made sure his son wouldn't face the backlash of bullshit that'd come with using his abilities by trying to save the dog himself. He was simply being a dad by what he did. Regardless of his son's powers. A lot of people hate that scene, but I don't mind the way it played out.

He moves faster than anyone can perceive. They would never know unless he wants to be seen. While he isn't as fast as the flash he is still faster than human perception. That's why it is made fun of. While Clark still hasn't found his full power as superman yet at this point. Clark spent enough time in Smallville learning the basics and while he couldn't fly in his early years he still knew how to super jump and ran super fast. They change this for this scene to happen.

The craziest part of Superman to me is in literally all of his physical interactions with humans, he has to move himself when they touch him because nobody is capable of moving him themselves unless he is unconscious. When he is holding any level of tension in his muscles it'd be like trying to pick up a skyscraper with your pinky. So when that guy "saved" him from the crab cage, he had to fall backwards on purpose, otherwise the guy would have just collided with a steel wall.

That is a good point I suppose. I've always felt this was one of the most unnecessary and stupid death scenes in a movie because Clark should have been able to sneak away out of sight and get to his father super fast from an unseen angle to where nobody would have been able to see what exactly happened, but I never really thought about how young he was there either (because, well, the actor looks exactly the same). Maybe he just wasn't capable enough at that point.

As far as your comments on the ending goes it's not really just the glasses that usually camouflage him from people knowing he's Superma, it's the body language it's the higher pitch voice, the clunkiness, just the goofball antics that Clark Kent does that really disguise it. At least it did in the Christopher Reeve version.

Released during Supes' 75th anniversary. The highest-grossing Superman film of all time. Christopher Nolan, producer and story creator after finishing The Dark Knight Trilogy. Using elements from several iterations (origin and exploits). Pushing the envelope of just how powerful and vulnerable he is in a world of the impossible becoming possible. Henry Cavill was on the Showtime series, The Tudors (2007-2010) and the movie, Immortals (2011) before being casted as Clark Kent/Kal-El. Also a good supporting cast around him. The themes implored into the movie much like the comics still hit a major cord. Saw it 3 times (reg. format, IMAX and IMAX 3D). I had major chills throughout this movie because of how much I loved this character and why he's the legend we know. Zack Snyder's vision, David S. Goyer's writing and Hans Zimmer's score. With this as the DCEU's beginning, the journey from here has been gratifying to me.

8:52 Mark! "Jerk"? You're right! Unlike those over at "Quora" that claim that "Mister Spock" is one in a particular episode! Mister Spock is too smart, intelligent, and educated to ever be a "jerk"! Ahem. Back in the day, when railroads were using steam power, they had no choice but to build tiny communities known as "jerkwater towns" around their water towers needed to replenish their locomotives. (They did not do double duty as the drinking water source, as that would deplete the water needed for the locomotives! So it was safe to bathe or swim in them if you were tiny enough, as seen in "Petticoat Junction" and in Will Smith's version of "The Wild Wild West"!) Such places were built for railroad workers and/or employees only, so there were no social amenities such as schools or churches. But the men ignored that and brought women into their workplace, and families were created that soon had children without a proper education! Manners and social graces were taught in public schools back then. The ignorant children grew up to be ignorant adults riding the trains and shocking the civilized passengers! The civil people soon caught on to how the rude people came to be, and they used the term "jerkwater residents" that in time due to oral laziness, was shortened to "jerkwaters" and now we have "jerks"! Railroad workers used to jerk water from the towers for the locomotives. At soda fountains, "soda jerks" jerked soda water! Male masturbation is called "perking off"!: They all share the same root word or term, "jerk"! 😮

It’s crazy to think that this is the first time Clark has actually ever had to fight for real. And he has to take on these genocidal super-people. Such a great movie. Still pissed that the MCU-ification of CB media led to its early end thanks to petulant brats online who couldn’t bear to see an original idea and actual drama on screen. At least we got ZSJL to sort of wrap some things up. Would have loved to see the Darkseid war though.

Other than the amazing Christopher Reeve, Henry Cavil is the best Superman! She knew it was Superman at the end lol. Remember he acts all clumsy and awkward when working.

Boooyyy i just went to use the bathroom while u mentioned it at the end of the movie 😂😂😂😂 My favorite part of this movie was at the end when Jonathan was fixing his truck & he stopped & watching Clark as a child like he can see his son's future. Beautiful Beautiful moment. I really enjoyed Man of Steel bc it tells me more about Superman's story & his biological parents' stories. And as for Mr. Video, omg love u man bc u made my evening. I really hope that u can continue to watch the DC movies.

This movie pisses me off a lot, it has the DUMBEST civilians of any super heroes movie I've ever seen. Even Leo noticed how stupid they are 😂

With all the ranting about the glasses hiding his identity, someone really needs to show this man the College Humor video of Superman trying to team up with Batman.

36:36 In the comic books at one point they said they were Kryptonian glasses with Kryptonian technology that altered a person's impression of the person wearing the glasses. I love comic books lol.

Honestly, Zod should be embarrassed in the beginning: he's supposedly one of that world's greatest general's, trained since birth for battle. Yet we see Jor-el absolutely bring the pain! The general, bested by the scientist.

It has been explained before. Jor-El had training, he was also fighting for his family, while zod was emotionally distressed and acting impulsively and recklessly. Not to mention it's Russel Crowe, he's the fucking gladiator 😅

Jor-el really channeled his inner Russel Crowe for that fight.

That is so true! Jor-El was fighting for his family when no one else is listening about Krpyton is doomed to nonexistent. And I was trying to understand Zod but my guess was that he was very misunderstood & annoying asf bc he just wanted to destroy & take over. Jor-El was telling Kal-El about his identity & making the choices. Remember Kal-El was raised in Kansas, for goodness sake, not to invade.

I love how Leo thoroughly enjoyed Jor El being much more of a badass than previous movies. "Jor El a gangster." 27:30 32:30 That Colonel was my favorite human character in the movie. Knew he was outmatched on every level, but still fought them.

Too many people dislike this, glad to see another MOS supporter. This is my fav Supes movie. I could go on about the score or the casting of the Kents and Cavill. Costner's harsh yet important lessons, Superman straining to hold himself back. It's not perfect but it's still amazing.
