yes it will get better had same truck only 3500 same color around 10k miles did trip to NJ pick up a 3000 lbs splitter , truck did 23mpg drove 230miles put 10 gal ,but some one total my truck and got 3500 HO/aisin transmission its deferent trucks 68rfe vs HO/aisin for towing heavy like we do good luck man God bless

Tow haul just affects the way it shift on the way up to speed. It will hold the gears longer. Exhaust brake works best in tow haul mode. Your mpgs should get better as it breaks in.

Don't listen to people saying it will get better, i have a h.o. 2024 ram 3500 dually and it gets about 9.5mpg towing 15k past breakin period. Before/after break-in it is the same. All the epa systems on them give it crap mpg

i agree with you but if you’re worried about your mpg get a car it’s a truck and i have a 22 ford f450 and average 11 mpg towing a 40ft gooseneck and 13mpg overall

I average about 13.5mpg towing anything in the 5k-8k range, travel trailer (more aerodynamic but larger) or my old dump trailer with my diesel. Granted it’s the 6.7 high output power stoke with 10 speed and 3.31 gears. I think your transmission is an 8 speed and of course the Cummins is a different engine. When I’m just running around town and on the highway I am averaging 17-20mpg no trailer. I imagine broken in and with the tongue dropped it will improve slightly. Glad to hear you like the truck though and it’s a nice looking setup you got now, congrats!

My 2020 GMC 2500HD AT4 gets around 10 MPG when towing. without my best is 24.8 MPG. i go through a lot of DEF while towing as well. this is way better than if you had a gas truck.

I drove my 2024 GMC sierra HD from Paris TX to Tomball TX towing a brand new Lamar dump trailer 14’ length gooseneck (4,700 pounds) around 5 hours. 11.5 mpg. I always get 15 mpg without towing.

I have the same truck. First issue is 70mph towing. Keep it 60 or lower and you’ll see the number increase a fair bit. Truck wants to be around 1500rpm

I'm averaging 11-12 towing a 24 ft enclosed trailer loaded and unloaded in my 24 3500 Laramie 6.7 Cummins 68rfe. In my experience, the mpg gets better closer to 10k miles.

@@JackofHaulTrades I had a 24 Silverado Duramax and I keep very detailed fuel records with the Fully app. I can tell you up to this point, I am getting 1.5 mpg better in the Ram Cummins than I was in the Duramax.

You might get an additional mile or two per gallon better once the truck breaks in but towing they don’t get a lot better. I just got into diesel trucks because of a 5th wheel RV we just got, a Brinkley Z3610 it’s 18k pound loaded up. My tow truck is a 2024 Ford F350 SRW 6.7HO Platinum Tremor, it gets 8.9mpg towing at 70-75 mph. When I am not towing I get 14mpg. Very important only get Diesel fuel from gas stations that seem to be used a lot. Stay away from smaller town gas stations. Diesel fuel when it doesn’t get used a lot will attract water and water in your fuel will destroy your fuel pump and possibly your engine.

Best description with that trailer setup would be driving with a parachute behind your truck & at 70mph average would kill your mpg. That trailer is not the most aerodynamic ideal for saving fuel 😂that front wall of the trailer just grabs air like a parachute

The dash number will be higher than it actually gets. Divide the miles by the gallons to get an accurate mpg.

Idk man my 2012 6.7 ford towing 15k pounds gets me 16 mpg and it allows me to tow in cruise control and I would recommend not letting your truck get close to empty on fuel that is an easy way to ruin your fuel pump

All the newest diesels burn a lot more def. Once the truck breaks in put a tuner/programmer on it and that’ll probably help your mileage to. Emission systems kills MPG. Nice truck and trailer!

Hate to break it to you, but that is what these trucks get. I have 300k towing miles running 6.7 cummins. My 2500 got around 10.5 pulling a trailer, and my current dually 3500 gets just over 9 with a trailer. People who tell you they get 15 towing are full of sh#t.. most of them may tow a trailer for a few miles per tank, and run the truck empty the rest of the tank, then they calculate mileage when filling up using the loaded and unloaded miles and come up with these crazy numbers. My truck stays hooked to a trailer contantly so my miles per gallon are calculated with 100% towing. Its just the cost of doing business man!

I have a 2021 high output Ram 3500 you won’t get any other better mileage than what you’re getting now they suck. it’s because of all the EPA garbage they put on the truck. I had a 2003 ram that got about 19 miles to the gallon. Pulling the same trailer. I pull now on the highway.

@@JackofHaulTrades right at 72,000 miles and the dealer will only warrant it for 70,000 miles I have experimented with multiple fuel additives and I have finally found one that will help keep it cleaner, so it does not go through multiple active regenerations, which on your heads up display on your truck will show the level of the diesel particulate filter in the exhaust system so do not let your truck idle a bunch it will cause The Diesel particular filter to because the truck is not running at high temperatures going down the highway
