As a Yotes fan. If you watch Yotes home games against popular teams the arena is filled with them. It’s not like there is no hockey fans in Arizona it’s just not fun rooting for a team that has had zero success in its franchise history. It also doesn’t help with the arena thing. Hard to get invested in the team if we have zero clue where it’ll be in 4 years. But the pieces they have could build something great. I think the current roster going into next season will surprise people. I think if we can make a solid run this year like .500 hockey it’d get eyes on them. Almost making the playoffs would do a lot for morale on the team.

Everything you said is utter bullshit. First of all, if that were true, the Calgary Flames would have left by now considering they have the oldest arena in the league and desperately need a new one. Second, the last two relocations were American clubs (Whalers and Thrashers) and one of them moved to Canada. You are referencing the Nordiques and Jets in 1995 and 1996 respectively and they didn't move "at the drop of a hat". These were the two smallest markets in the league and were plagued with old arenas with no suites and a Canadian Dollar that was $.65 to the USD. Both clubs were bleeding money and they tried to get both new owners and new arenas for the teams. No one wanted to own the teams in Winnipeg and Quebec City and the Provencal and Federal Gov't refused to help fund new arenas. Edmonton was also in danger of moving and at the 11th hour Bettman was able to work out an arena deal with the city of Edmonton thus saving the club. He also orchestrated a Canadian revenue sharing plan that assists Canadian teams financially because of the weakness of the Canadian dollar. I agree that the efforts to save the Yotes has gone way to far but the NHL is committed to the markets that they are in. Phoenix is a huge TV market and with the right arena in the right location, the team would do just fine. It looks like the Yotes will probably move but don't get your hopes up for Quebec City. Because of the balancing of the conferences, the team will remain in the Central division which limits the options to Houston, Kansas City and Salt Lake. Quebec City is a great hockey town but be that as it may, it would be the smallest market in the league, a low corporate presence and a weak Canadian dollar that would not allow the team to hit the ice with a strong launching pad. Pro sports is a business and the financials have to make sense.

The main issue is them being delinquent with their rent payments while they were there. I think the Coyotes should move, but I don’t think Arizona should never have an NHL team again. This current team just has so much baggage with terrible ownership, cities not wanting to have anything to do with them, costing the league money, and players openly avoiding this team like the plague. Move them to a different city, and give it a few years before giving Arizona a fresh new team with competent owners, and an NHL arena ready to go day 1. If they went this route, it would not surprise me if we finally saw the kind of fan support that the Coyotes have been missing.

The problem is that the dysfunction of the Coyotes has likely permanently burned the bridge between Arizona and hockey for good. The local government kicked them out of Glendale, and Tempe residents rejected them after the city of Phoenix convinced them to vote no. If not even Mesa, Phoenix proper, or Scottsdale works out, then it's going to very hard to bring hockey back to Arizona ever again. I think Bettman knows this, which is why he's desperately trying to make this work. He knows that this is the only chance in Arizona he'll likely ever going get.

Let's see where this next phase of the arena search goes first before we bust out the coffins just yet. If the Coyotes buy the land, then they won't have to go any town hall vote. They can get straight to building because they'd own the full rights to the property. And the fact that they have multiple sites on their radar is a good sign, so lets just hope it works out for now. It would really suck for the NHL to lose out on such a big market that has proven before that it can sell out an arena if they're winning. If not, then wherever they move, they should at least move their AHL affiliate to the Phoenix metro area so that their hockey presence there isn't completely erased. Portland is already a thriving hockeytown with just the Winterhawks in town, so hopefully, if it comes down to it, the Roadrunners in the Phoenix metro area can work out at least.

(We have the Cascadia Cup in MLS, used to have a similar [albeit short-lived] rivalry in the NBA, and a three-team rivalry between the Winterhawks, the Silvertips, and the Thunderbirds. If Mesa doesn’t work, the Coyotes are going to move, simple as that. Phoenix and Scottsdale will go nowhere. Mesa is truly the last chance for the Coyotes. And I don’t think the Coyotes will move to Quebec City. It’s in Canada and we know that the Canadian dollar isn’t on par with the US dollar right now. Plus, you’d have to move them into the Eastern Conference and then move one of the Eastern Conference teams, most likely the Red Wings, back to the Western Conference. Now personally, I’d be glad to see the Red Wings back in the Western Conference since they’d be in the same division as the Blackhawks, but I think the reason they and the Blue Jackets moved to the Eastern Conference was because there was a lot of travel, not to mention both Detroit and Columbus are in the Eastern Time Zone. So I can rule out Quebec City. Houston, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Salt Lake City and maybe San Antonio and Indianapolis are the most likely cities where the Coyotes would move to if they in fact move.

The perception that the yotes are making a last ditch effort by “going out and getting players” is completely wrong, the fact that the team is located in the desert automatically draws in players to move, especially after seeing the heightened performance and success of Matthew Tkachuk. The ability to draw players to the desert is clearly false is you simply look at the Phoenix Suns and their ways of scoring high end talent. Moving to a new location won’t make the actual team of guys any better, if anything the struggle of having to relocate and adjust to playing for a new owner and a new base of fans will only set them back further. The media attention this is getting just goes to show that people like to pick on teams having struggles while in reality they are just like any other NHL players playing for a team and in a climate where they feel is best for them. You’re all laughing now but the Arizona Coyotes will win at least 1 Stanley Cup before the decade is over
