the tents enclosing houses usually indicate houses that are being fumigated/sprayed to eradicate unwanted insects.

In real life the owner didn’t allow the house to be painted for the movie, so the movie production had the house covered in a fumigation tent.

I think the director wants to tell us that Edward cannot really mix with people. Only a few people have the heart to understand and love him. Wynona had to protect him, he could only live alone in this cruel world.

Are you guys watching the original Grinch (the cartoon) or the movie with Jim Carrey as the Grinch? The movie is what really gave the Grinch more popularity over the cartoon.
