I get that this is drama, but as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist, 1. There are many exercises that will keep his HR up that don't involve him running. A recumbent bike for example will prevent him from falling much better, and keep his torso still for the placement of electrodes. Even just cycling his legs while lying down might sufficiently raise his HR. 2. You can chemically induce cardiac stress (it's used in stress testing). It's probably much faster to get drugs on site than another doctor, and easier than to stick a wire on his heart. 3. Some modern AEDs have automatic pacing functions, which might work till they get him to he hospital.
@crescentceleste
@crescentceleste 3 жыл бұрын
On points 2 and 3, they did use epinephrine but that did not work but I'm not sure why they didn't give him more and yeah they could have used other drugs which would have been quicker than getting an attending on-site. And they did try and use an AED but because he was sweating so much the pads didn't make good enough contact with the skin to work. But then again if he was exercising in a different way that wouldn't have been an issue.

So there is no way to filter the blood or remove some of the meds? How was it going to take over an hour for an attending to get to there when it's an emergency? Why couldn't he jog to the hospital? Why couldn't he move in the ambulance? There are other ways to keep your heart rate up, exercises and drugs, etc. Why after his doctor found out about the overdose did he not immediately send an ambulance to the guy?

This has to be the dumbest thing I have ever seen. You cannot tell me there aren’t a million better ways to handle this. Like using exercises that only use the legs so his chest and arms can stay still, shaving and drying his chest for the AED, or, PUMPING HIM WITH MORE THEN A TINY SHOT OF EPI! Seriously. Put his heart on jet fuel if you have to. And I’m not a doctor, but there has got to be a reversing agent for this drug or something. Come on.
