This week we are back at Bacon's Tackle in Shreveport, Louisiana, to take a proper Retro Bassin' walk-thru of the tackle shop. This place is jammed, floor to ceiling, with old school gold and fishing artifacts. Years ago, Michel Bacon purchased 16,000 pounds of Bill Lewis Rat-L-Traps! He's still got boxes and boxes of discontinued lipless crankbaits in long-forgotten colors available without hooks for $2 each or 3 for $5. This tackle shop is also the place to find OG Smithwick Lures, Fliptail Worms and Fliptail Lizards, Creme Worms, rolled latex skirts, and so much more. Bassin' Buds, get yourself over to this awesome, independently owned tackle shop!

I'm not great at math but 16,000 pounds of 1/2 ounce traps would be let's see... 16 ounces in a pound.....so 32 per pound....times 16,000....That's like 512,000 baits. That's a lot!

@@RetroBassin I can't go or I will be broke and still owe an untold amount because walking in there would make me want everything and not getting everything would always have me questioning what awesome treasures have I missed out on. It is truly amazing that there are still some places that have such old school gold still new in the package. Thank you for sharing these people and places also Thank you for being an all around great person.

Love every video at Bacon's! My bank account (and wife) are very happy that it's so far away. I could listen to the stories out of that store for HOURS!!!! Talk about a national lure treasure. I know you've filled a lot of vid's there, but keep them coming, that 40 minutes seemed like 5, just awesome stuff!

40 minutes, and that's after editing it down! I bet there's another 3 or 4 hours of juicy retro bait footage! I recently realized that a lot of other anglers are still very much into those Cotton Cordell baits. I'm gonna do a deep dive into catching big bass with them.

I can’t tell you how many fish I’ve caught on a bleeding shiner 1/4oz bill Lewis rattle trap. It’s my favorite bait of all time I have at least three in my box at all times it’s a good all round bait to throw

@@RetroBassin I just wrote Michael and gave him props yet again on your video and to gently remind him that I'm waiting patiently for a couple of frog skin baits. Also told him that it's brewing in me to make the 16 hour drive from northern Wisconsin to Shreveport with a bag full of benjamins, to spend a day or two in his shop! I'm blaming you for this! HA!

I just found a jar of the pork fliptails in a tacklebox my dad had hidden I never knew he had 😅 also did no realize I have a blue ghost rat l trap. Another good lure to check out would be the berkley bladedancer. One of those "as seen on tv" that actually works.

Back in the day, my father , an avid fisherman, was a house painter in central La.. and got asked by Bill Lewis to paint his house in Alexandria. He gave my dad a 5-gallon bucket fill of Rat-L_Traps. My father who was having a celebrity moment by his standards, said Bill Lewis was a really nice down to earth guy . I still have a few of them. Great bait.

That electric golden shiner is what got me hooked on fishing! I was eight years old, running that lure alongside a dock… wam slammed by a two pounder. That ignited the fire. All I did was throw rattle traps for years. Was convinced nothing was biting if they didn’t hit the rattle trap. Thanks for the uploads, trips down memory lane, and that amazing nostalgic feeling! The earliest model Rat-L-Traps used brass hook hangers instead of stainless and the chrome plated hooks were longer shank instead of the short shank round bend trebles. You showed some older ones here.I bet those go back to 1989 or so.Thanks for sharing. The new models are now made in China for a couple of years now.

Who would be a good source to identify an older pattern on a Rat-L-Trap? I have one about 15 years old or so, the pattern seems to be the same as an MT838 but it is an RT and I can only find one picture of the MT. It is a black craw with gold details and green glitter.
