Reminder: [Plat] - [Diamond] - [Master] - [GM] They put this guy up 3 whole tiers. He played pretty well, overall. If you're in a GM game all of your mistakes are gonna get punished super hard. Looks like he's had a chance to see those weaknesses, and hopefully it'll help him improve in the role. Great ep.

I truly don’t understand how people were saying he deserves plat and some were saying lower, with all due respect but clearly the low elo players were the ones who were making fun of him not realizing he was doing amazing as a plat, and that is with him being extremely nervous and in his head, I’d say he could defintely get to like mid-high diamond with time, but generally he’s clearly above plat.

BINGO!!! Elo hell might not exist BUT there are differences in skill/aim/gamesense in a team even if they are same rank. I saw that a lot more in metal ranks where my whole team would struggle dishing out damage or focusing on correct target so as a support main you try to be more agro as well to secure the elims. But around Diamond and Masters (some matches in plat sometimes) you can start to trust your team that they will play their intended role decently and reliably so you can focus a lot more on optimizing heals and surviving. But as we can see being agro on support can be helpful but it's also very risky as not only you risk dying more but you can also miss healing your team mate which can throw the whole game so my tip to lower rank is still to prioritize heals and evading getting killed because this way you'll survive more, get more heals and won't get blasted in chat for being bad at support...once you tilt a team mate it can also make them play worse....

in super high rank lobbies you need to hold on to E... entire plays are made waiting for kiriko to fuck up and use E. same with bap. if they just spam these off CD theyre useless. you need to hold onto cleanse for things like ana nade, or if your dps/tank are getting doomfist punched into a wall or some other form of CC like rein charge you need to have E off cooldown. as someone who plays a lot of dive/flank characters i almost always wait for supports to fuck up and use their cooldowns.

His big problem is positioning. Sometimes, I have this problem too when I come back to support after playing DPS for a bit. He’s not valuing his life enough and is way too far forward. It’s better to either stay back or take an off angle. His mechanics are good. So once he works on his game sense, I think he’ll rank up 👍

I was stuck in Silver for the longest time, even in Overwatch 1 and I always said I belong on a higher rank as support. In Season 3 of OW2 I finally made it, climbed up all the way to platin 1 and games are now for some reason way easier for me, so I do get it when people say lower ranks are hell because playing with people that just do whatever they want is horrible. However I think this guy focuses too much on dps when he is playing support. He should stay back and focus on his role, not letting it get to his head that he is actually master dps, because that's not his role in support games. He did very well on Ana tho! If he focuses on his positioning especially with Ana, and uses his Ult more, then I think he can climb up to a new rank quite easily.

I mean you could argue you just got better between ow1 and S3 of ow2. It's true that people often do whatever they want in lower ranks, but if you're actually a good player, then you'll be able to punish the other team for their bad plays to win games more often.
@aheg0re
@aheg0re Жыл бұрын
@@samuelfelty the amount of times I had nearly 20-25k healing, while the other team's most heal was around 15k, so there were HUGE differences between my healing and every one else's. i also nearly never died and sometimes even ended up having more eliminations (+ assists ofc) than my teammates. I played in groups with my friends, that were ranks higher than mine, and I was easily able to play just as good. I agree that to a certain amount as a healer you have a huge impact on the game and you can of course carry a team as a healer, but that's firstly not really fun, secondly very frustrating and annoying and in the end, if you lose as a team, you automatically lose rank. at the end of the rounds overwatch is a team game, and if you have a widow and hanzo that refuse to switch with 2 kills each round, then that's not able to be carried.

One thing I’ve seen is that with playing support you need to use cover more. Each character has there strengths. Lucio is movement and team play, Anna is using anti nade to heal your tank while hitting others around him/her to make sure they can’t heal, Moria is spread healing while using damage orb to push other team back, bap is using his boots, using the vertical movement to get out of danger and either deal damage or heal others in awkward positions, brig is staggering others, use abilities whenever needed, but always stay between the tank and dps, kiriko sozu is just broken, removes status’s and invulnerable, best against mei and Ashe, but always usable on any ultimate, zen is his discord easily, we know how busted it is, life weaver is his ability to have the vertical naturally which if you have a support up there or a dps in open areas it makes the game that much harder.

Like, I feel like he wants to go in and do a lot of damage up close and uses his abilities to stay alive for that but he should value his life more than that as a support and pay more attention to what the team is going to do. this guys main issue is playing support like a dps. on bap, he prioritized shooting the enemy rather than healing. he attempted to save lamp most often for himself and got stuck in situations where it would’ve been more winnable if he had lamped his teammates. he saves his ult for perfect situations which dont usually come, especially the ana nano. as kiriko, he needs to use cleanse more often and not be as frugal with his cooldowns. when playing lucio, hes way too overaggressive and finds himself in bad situations way too late. his callouts are alright but doesn’t completely follow them as he targets different heroes and does whatever on a whim. overall, i think his mechanical skill is diamond, overall ranking for support would be plat-diamond.

Its always a little difficult at first to switch from DPS to Support mentality, as is beautifully shown here. Support requires a whole different set of positioning, new game sense and awareness that vastly differs from DPS'ing. Elo Hell? Nah, I think he is in a good place right now to gain the require sense and knowledge behind a high tier support player. I struggled with it a lot at the beginning, but then I dedicated entire seasons to support play and the difference... I saw clips of when I first started as support and now and you cant tell its the same player. The team does help a lot, I do want to add. I had teams where, as Jay said, everyone holds S while the tank fucks off to Narnia... But I also had teams who positioning just made healing so damn easy, they knew where I was, what lanes I'd be hold as Ana or even as Weaver, they knew when to break off engagements... All that said, He is a good player... not quite GM material, he has a lot of learning to do to swap mindset to support. I think if he watched some videos on a handful of Support heroes he might be interested in would be a good place to start, just to learn positioning and movement.

I don’t necessarily think ana fits his style but I could see him being a very good bap player and lucio player if he learns to just play a bit safer. But he’s very very good. Edit: I think if he made a different switch to counter the ball he would’ve done a lot better, for example if he would’ve went brig and focused on hard countering the ball and dive and forced them to switch their gameplan he would’ve also probably faired a lot better. But he still did play good!

This is one of my flaws that I must fix (and everyone in reality) to reach GM as a masters player lol. Its hard to react to the agression of the enemy in time for me so in some cases I end up dying but im learning now. Reading the game is one of the things that you only see in GM, cause if you know that, then it means that you already play as a team, you are aware of your teammates and when they need help, and know when to use ults, wich in the other ranks playing like that is imposible lmao.

Bap is often a DPS main's rage pick (esp. when they are playing support badly). Used to be zen, but bap has more mobility and self-sustain. I'd mention Moira but she can't headshot, so this sort of player often avoids her.

Bap is all about damage and only heals when needed. And the same thing goes for Ana. They’re called supports not healers. You don’t want your healers to be healing bots. You want them to get kills as well. If you weren’t trash at the game you would know that.

I’ve hit masters on all roles and my dps recently dropped to plat so I definitely kind of feel ELO hell a bit. Climbing back up has been very painful and I’m still not quite there just yet. As a dps minded support player support was actually my first to climb into master. If you can contest enemy dps and hold your own and defend your other support I think climbing is pretty easy for support. What I see in plat is supports running scared and not peeling for each other usually, bad positioning, and tons of staggering. What I’ve also noticed in plat is that staggering and not grouping up often wins team fights which makes no sense. As I go through each rank I notice the rules of the game change dramatically and you have to push way harder to get any sort of value. I also noticed in plat and Diamond people don’t listen to callouts at all even though they want you in VC. Most people are capable of broadcasting and playing simultaneously but can’t handle listening or actively observing what’s happening. What finally got me to masters dps the first time was keeping calm, not comming as much and observing more. When you observe more intently and identify what you personally can do to help the situation that goes a long way between Diamond and master. I also think there are multiple dimensions of each rank. On a fresh account with few hours in plat you still have a lot of newbies learning the game. They tend to be more open minded. When your account has hundreds of hours and you’re still in plat you get paired with a lot of similar people who are stuck and can’t get out and those lobbies are the hardest especially if you’re trying to win with comms because people already have a preconceived notion about how to win (even though they aren’t ranking up). I also run into a lot of hard throwing Reinhardts that literally W key from spawn on cooldown and touch enemy spawn 1v5ing for no reason. Lots of people throw in those ranks to keep their accounts low so they can play with friends and those games are hard to win.

I can understand what he's saying. Most teams in gold/plat aren't trustworthy. You need to play either premade or way more aggressive/dps-support than you'd normally do in higher ranks. Up to plat I played dps-Moira. Not like I'd only do damage but I'd let someone from my team die if I was sure I'd get 1, 2 or even 3 kills. I used my team as meatshields to get the enemy team killed because most of them can't handle Moira (I healed them just enough so they were focused on them instead of me, even tho I was the threat). In higher ranks I actually believed my team will get those kills, I don't need to do it all by myself but to make sure my team stays alive and gets opportunities to kill someone. You will know pretty fast when you need to be more aggressive after 1 or 2 min of the game, so you just need to change with that! I often played premade, half the time with another support and we won a lot - so it's not really about having a good tank or dps but just 1 good player other than you. (we had around 90% winrate throughout plat). Since he's already a good dps/tank and has good tracking, I let him do the dmg/flanking, so he often played Kiriko or Zen and I took on the healing part of the team and focused more on keeping the team alive (while of course looking out for easy targets). Teamplay from 2 good players can easily carry a game, you just need to figure out fast who will be your partner! Also I looove those videos! Playing with actual better people will let you improve so much faster and easily show on what you need to improve! :) I often 1v1'd/ffa'd with diamond to gm friends when I was back in gold and seldom played any dps. You will definitely learn the fastest like that because they will punish you directly for your mistakes. (But it can also be super frustrating since you are much worse xD)

Probably gonna play Devils advocate, i am also an ana main, i have been playing this game since 2018 straight, around 400 hours+ on ana. (Yes one trick). I have been (high) plat ever since. Since i didnt improve and barely scraped diamond in ow1 (e.g i believe my peak in ow1 in its final moments was 3080 sr), and diamond 5 in ow2. So I truly believe(d) that i was #platforever, which was fine by me, the games were not overly hard but just hard enough that i felt that i was not the one making a difference. Then queue season 3 in the final weeks, i suddenly went on a win streak and managed to climb to masters 5. The ofcourse the rank "reset" in s4 that aligns your mmr more with the rank shown put me in masters 3. Now i managed to get masters 2 after playing 15 or so games more. I have not changed my play style and have not become better in just a month... That said it is possible that the following could explain the reason behind my rankup: 1. My "way of playing" just wasnt well suited for the plat rank, which made climbing harder. That means however that i can't really adapt well enough to suit different levels of play styles. And by the changes to the ranking system being now more individually tailored it put me up higher where my play style is more common? 2. Rank inflation, more players means that the criteria for multiple rank "levels" are more spread out skill wise which i believe to be true anyway. I did notice however that now that i hit masters the games did become more fast pased and the mechanical skill of the players increased, for example due to my bad positioning (which i now notice more than ever) in plat against a hanzo i wouldnt die as often. Now as a plat habit i am still not really expecting a competent hanzo and thus take unnecessary position risks and then be surprised to be actually hit consistently by the enemy dps. So in that sense, yes rank inflation does propably exist but i feel like the players in masters now are still more difficult to play against than plat. And additionally I feel like master players are (maybe unconsciously) able to deal with my incompetent positioning/skills more effectively than plat players and thus somehow i feel a bit boosted/out of place in masters ... And that might also be a reason why i was able to climb a bit, more or less due to other competent players being able to cover my ass. I am however in a bit of a pinnacle where i managed to keep being masters onetricking ana but i feel completely incompetent playing other healers, which takes out the joy of playing competitive knowing/feeling like a liability playing anything else than ana if the situation requires it. Tl;dr: Anyhow something has definitely changed in Overwatch and i do feel that as a support that the people you play with affect how you perform as a support more than with other roles, up till a certain point ofcourse.
