He did a great job SHOWING parts and tools. This video made it simple and quick.

Thanks Pappy. I do not believe I have ever had a vehicle that was neglected so much and I was still able to drive it home.

I see you're actually answering people! Awesome! Maybe you can help me. I was driving when the power steering light came on. I lost the power assist. I could still steer with some muscle. 10 mi. later I got off the interstate and found, in the book, of my 06 HHR, that fuse #19 was labeled power steering. When I checked it, it was warm. So I swapped it with#18 which was labeled blank. In short, every time I turn the car off, then start it back up I have the power steering back for about 5 seconds. I've put about a hundred miles on it so far (one day), because I had to get to work. Does that warm fuse tell you what component is the problem?, if there's no short.
@SteveAZ7114 жыл бұрын
A warm fuse may indicate there is more current being run through it than usual. If too much then it will blow. It may be that the component that that fuse serves is going bad...I am just not sure. Check out this link to an HHR Forum. It has some similar issues mentioned, that may be able to help you fix the problem. Also if you can, run a code check on your scanner to see if the computer is mentioning anything with the power steering. Remember Chevy HHR had an ignition switch recall that was causing many similar issues. Check to see if you vehicle was fixed with that recall. Here is the link that I mentioned...hope this helps..www.chevyhhr.net/forums/problems-service-repairs-42/power-steering-just-went-off-23499/page2/

I guess the motor takes place of the steering pump? Good job!!!
@SteveAZ7115 жыл бұрын
Yes, even though this is some nice power steering now, I really prefer the pump and fluid version.

The video was great but I still have a related problem. I recently replaced the intermediate steering shaft due to excessive play but now have a rattle which seems to be coming from directly behind the steering wheel. It's really noticeable at lower speeds on rough surfaces. I also get intermittent whining\squealing when making a sharp turn. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello mr I have chevy hhr2008 When starting my car the steering is very smoth But Where drive my car the steering is very hard 😢
@SteveAZ7112 жыл бұрын
I never had this issue, but I would start with a diagnostic scan with a scan tool to see if the body control module is causing the issue. However, it acts like the power steering motor is starting to fail and needs replacing.

Recently got a HHR from a friend who's mother passed away, just as my 21 year old Honda's transmission gave up. So new to a HHR. I feel that the steering is way heaver than it ought to be. At slow speeds (like parking) it doesn't seem to have much assistance versus my girlfriends Hyundai Accent that I can practically turn with a finger at low speeds. Do you think a new motor would help this? Should the HHR have much lighter steering around corners? I feel like I'm fighting the centrifugal force of the wheels, it feels like the power assistance is always about the same amount, it never varies like on other cars. I understand that tire pressure on the HHR's can also add a lot to the feel, they are set to about 25-27, and I think they are normally around 30. But i can't imagine just a few pounds of pressure would dramatically alter the lightness of the steering, it's never been that way on other cars I've driven. Thanks for the video, it might come in handy if it's the power steering motor.

Put some air in those tires. Yes, the steering has a more positive feel to it. I actually like it at all speeds.
@marcusdamberger3 жыл бұрын
@@SteveAZ711 I put in air, I found the tires were actually around 21psi. So it seems the TPMS sensors are less accurate the further you are away from their optimal 30psi the door placard says they should be. It did lighten up the steering, much improved at parking speeds. I have noticed rumbling at the front suspension and I think the bushings are worn out, it tends to pull to the left or right when I apply brakes at lower speeds. I think a good look over the suspension will be needed, and maybe that will solve the pulling and tightness around corners.

I replaced my motor on my 2007 hhr I got an updated unit new for $50 took about 20 min to install. It was under warranty some service bulletin those motor from chevy, but it was easier to do myself then go through there hoops and leave for them for another day.
@SteveAZ7115 жыл бұрын
You are correct ED. I believe there was a bulletin out on them now that you mention it. I can see why. This newer motor came out of a 98000 mile car so it may have already been replaced. Sure is some smooth turning now!
@SteveAZ7115 жыл бұрын
Now that you mention it... I do remember a recall when I asked the dealer about my other HHR back in 2008 I think. Seems the motor was making some growly noise at times. Yeah Ed, those hoop hours sitting there just make me feel like bait for a new car salesperson. LOL

My hhr that’s parked in my driveway is giving me soooo much problems...my steering wheel turns and turns and turns and yet my wheels don’t move...recently I tried turning it on cuz that’s what ur supposed to do...and it never turned on...no lights turn on no nothing...how can u put a hhr on neutral to move forward a little...when I press on brakes and try to move forward...it don’t work...
@SteveAZ7115 жыл бұрын
Oh Vanessa, is your battery dead? Still if you unlock the steering wheel you should be able to turn it enough to see the wheels move. It sounds like you have some broken or unconnected steering components. You need to have a mechanic look at that steering issue. As for not turning on, it most likely is a dead battery. It can be jumped from under the hood at the Battery terminal. Here is a video showing how..kzbin.info/www/bejne/d2TJh4unZapmq9U.

Vanessa, have a mechanic look at the steering. Sounds like the battery. Here is a link on how to jump start it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d2TJh4unZapmq9U Once it is running, try turning the wheels to one side and see if they move. Then try the other side. You may have some broken or loose parts if you get nothing at all.

Hey what abt the recalibration? How did you avoid that
@SteveAZ7114 жыл бұрын
First, I did not avoid anything. If I felt my steering needed adjustment then a good scan tool may be able to calibrate the position sensor with the computer. Or you can have the dealership do it.
