Thanks again for the video. I changed my wife’s power assist motor this past Saturday. It took about 3.5 hrs. Because the bolts are hard to get to and I was out on my driveway. It was about 90 degrees that day but I got it done. It was a good thing I had small ratchets and sockets. Also, the motor assist bolts were very tight and I used “WD 40” and a hammer to get them loose. Thanks again and be safe!

I’ve had the power steering go out on my 07 HHR when trying to jump start it using the terminals under the hood rather than directly to the battery in the trunk. Lesson learned. Seems to be a known issue that you’ll blow your PS fuse when improperly jumping. Luckily it was an inexpensive fix.

Any symptoms before the steering fails on these cars? Mine is at 93k and I have a weird sound when I steer at slow speeds. Sounds like rubber squeaking against something. It's definitely inside the column somewhere. It could be a failing clockspring or something else, who knows.

Thank you so much for this video! I have a question, (please forgive me as I am a complete beginner), but as opposed to just replacing the motor, why did you have to change the "assembly"? I am asking because I am preparing to purchase a 2011 Chevy HHR and as it sits, there is no power steering. I have not had a chance to check the fuses, but I am hoping it is just the motor.
@s33therfan4 жыл бұрын
99 percent of the time you will just replace the motor after fuses etc have been ruled out. The only reason I replaced the whole assembly was because there was no extra cost. I picked up the whole unit at a pull it yourself salvage yard . Great question and thank you very much for watching.
