This scared the C**P out of me | Digger on rocky Hill Country.

Fixing a water pipe then took the digger out the back to dig a track for the new water supply, then things went downhill, FAST.

Back in the early 2000s I did possums there. I was a fit young buck,it was steep then and it looks steeper now. You did well to get out of there unhurt.

Lucky result in the end. I’ve done it twice, once in a Ute backwards down a big hill with the brakes locked on and once in a spreader truck. I got lucky as well but both times I needed new underpants.

I know the camera never shows how steep hills are, so I can only imagine how steep that whole area is . . . it certainly will keep you fit. It's amazing how you farm that property, lovely to look at. Cheers, and stay safe.

There's a story in Peter Yealand's book, 'A Bloke For All Seasons' about a dozer running away with him on his property out in Pelorus Sound. It's a while since I read the book, but I think he managed to jump off with the dozer heading for the Sound, and it managed to stop just short of the water. I'm thinking your story has him beat hands down, and by quite a margin! My wife used to work at Wairau hospital, and says that you guys, along with forestry workers, were some of their most frequent 'customers' to the ED. Thank goodness you got away with a bad scare and a promise to be more careful next time.

A very eye opening experience for you glad it didn't end with rolling the digger. Good to see you getting in a contractor with a dozer to do the job. I could have recommend someone to do the job if you hadn't got someone. Was that pvc going onto pressure pipe I would recommend putting a bigger pipe over it to protect it. Also not sure if you do it but put a small taper on end of any black of blue pipe stops oring rolling out when you slide it into fitting you are using

Thanks. The extra pvc over the existing one is a good idea. I have a sharpener for the polly pipe to champher the ends. I'm curious to know who you would recommend to rip the pipe in?

Oh swt to hear you got the tool for the polly . Be curle contracting . Or I've got family that does all that stuff and more and come from a farming background but they are really busy . I know what it's like had a tractor jump out of gear going down Hill paddock all I could do was ride it to the bottom straight through agate then came to rest just sat there for half an hour shaking so your number wasn't up take care
