We actually teach the exact opposite in Roofing SEO School, primarily because it's all about local and service-specific SEO. Homepages rank the best for the biggest city+ service combinations, primarily because IT IS the homepage and it naturally gets the most amount of backlinks. Adding additional cities to such websites make them rank pretty easy as well since the homepage is already strong and it is very natural. In local SEO this is the most common strategy, unless the company is focusing on multiple services... which is more and more rare these days. In this case we recommend having multiple websites. It's all about speed at the end of the day, and speed belongs to specialists.

Hi Matt, Thanks for your video. But I have a question. I checked your article about anchor optimization and the part about internal links (anchors) and the chart at the end of the article. After that I decided to check my blog posts and from each one add a link to the homepage with anchors 60% keyword, 20% brand, 20% misc. Now it looks like a wrong way. So should I proceed and link from my blog posts to my homepage with optimized anchor internal links or it's better to get rid of this strategy? Thanks for your help!

We moved the group of high-frequency requests [plate heat exchangers] from the main page of the project to the internal one (HC=2), as the range of the company's services expanded. After moving the content and changing the relevant page in Google, we recorded a drawdown in positions. Now the positions are not growing, why? What can be done?

If your homepage url has the exact volume keyword you want to rank for and you focus on a super niche. You will automatically rank your homepage instead of a category page with the products.. If you try to give power from the homepage to the collection page you will get cannibalisation problems correct? At least this is my experience. Tried to rank for my most important keyword manually through the collection page (avg pos. 12 - 8. When I changed I to the homepage (4-2). Without backlinks, just advanced SEO structure 2 months. Now I'm having a little drop to 8 so I'm still kinda testing

Could you do a video about the sandbox? Everyone is publishing and not sure if it's Ai or content related, or too many pages, or their body odor, some thing Google is tracking them personally, or if it's a velocity problem, or the "sandbox"... I was doing a test and published over 6,000 pure duplicate content landing pages with long content (not Ai generated, but peiced together)... everything indexed for about a week or so then deindexed quickly... the domain was aged but had never been used... no links... I have pure duplicate content sites with hundreds or thousands of pages ranking... so I am trying to figure out what Google is doing with their system here and so is most of the SEO community, nobody knows... I think it's just trust based (based on links and other trust factors) but I don't know. Google says there is no duplicate content penalty, btw. "Duplicate content on a site is not grounds for action on that site unless it appears that the intent of the duplicate content is to be deceptive and manipulate search engine results. If your site suffers from duplicate content issues, and you don't follow the advice listed above, we do a good job of choosing a version of the content to show in our search results." - developers google search blog 2008 09 demystifying-duplicate-content-penalty (not sure if that is still valid since it was so long ago) Google: no duplicate content penalty Duplicate Content: 5 Myths and 5 Facts About How It ... Neil Patel neilpatel › blog › myths-about-duplicate-c... According to Google, duplicate content won't tank your SEO rankings. They specifically say: “Duplicate content on a site is not grounds for action on that site . --- Ask any marketer: Content marketing is one of the most effective ways to grow your audience online. Sharing quality content consistently is a critical component of an effective search engine optimization (SEO) campaign and a driving force in guiding potential customers further along your funnel. With the amount of work it takes to churn out unique, well-written content on a regular basis, it’s easy to see why duplicate content exists (even though most of it is unintentional). But does having duplicate copy result in lower rankings on search engine results pages (SERPs)? Yes and no - and not in a manner that you’d expect. It is a common misconception in the SEO industry that duplicate copy negatively impacts your rankings because of a perceived Google duplicate content penalty. In a recent Google SEO office-hours hangout, Google Search Advocate John Mueller shared that Google doesn’t attach a negative ranking score on Google SEO duplicate content. It does, however, choose which pages to show. “…it’s not so much that there’s a negative score associated with it,” said Mueller. “It’s more that if we find exactly the same information on multiple pages on the web, and someone searches specifically for that piece of information, then we’ll try to find the best matching page.” - thriveagency

Yes, there's a definite restriction on new sites taking off before they hit a certain "threshold". When you mix in other issues like dupe content, a slow website, or whatever, it makes it hard to figure out: is this just the sandbox or did I add something new onto it. That's why I always take the approach: do all the things.

Hey Matt I love your content but I 100% disagree with what you are saying in this video. In your first example, you could still rank the homepage for a broad all-encompassing keyword such as 'home improvement'. The mistake you gave in this example is not trying to rank the homepage but trying to rank the homepage for a keyword that is too narrow. In your second example, if you have established topical authority in surfing and now want to rank for scuba diving which is outside of the surfing topical authority map, then wouldn't it be more practical to start a second website that's all about scuba diving and establish topical authority there instead? Your third and fourth points are irrelevant if you target a broad search term as I stated in my first point. Finally, your homepage tends to naturally rank for the brand term in SERPs without trying to optimise for it, so why waste it on that? I tend to optimise the about page for the brand term so that way you get both your homepage and about pages at the top of SERPs for branded search terms which helps to better protect the business against competitors who are trying to hijack your branded search keywords with competitor comparison posts etc. I'm not trying to attack you with this comment - I really do love your videos - and I am totally aware that I may be missing the point here so would love you hear your response in regard to this.
