Excellent! This video is clear and detailed, so the listener can follow each step in the process of developing the two hander backhand counter. I've been working on it during practice with my drilling partner. Thank you Jordan for the useful practical instruction.

Happy New Year, Jordan! This is a great teaching video. However, I was watching another one similar to yours and the coach had the student drop the head of the paddle (pointed down below the ball), take the paddle back not past shoulder/hip and swing to ready position to ensure being ready for return. The student did really well with this. Obviously, all coaches are different and students have different skill levels. It was nice to see two methods of hitting a two-handed backhand volley. Choices are always good. Thanks again!!! Your videos are amazing!!😃

Good to hear you're finding value in the videos! With the kind of volley you’re mentioning, it’s more of a punch volley, with less topspin. Two different strokes.

Thanks, Jordan. Great content as usual. I have added 2HBH for drives, drops, drips and dinking but need to use it for counters and putaways. It will definitely help me. Lately, when I get that high ball to my left I am hitting down w/ single backhand and putting it right into the net. Or it’s not aggressive enough in singles vs younger players. This will help me be more aggressive.

Hi. I REALLY like the tucked right elbow idea for developing topspin. I may have missed it, but it did not seem like you used that for the topspin dink (but did for all the rest of the topspin shots. Should one? Thanks.

On the backhand are you pushing more with the left hand rather than pulling with your right hand?
@BrionesPickleball2 ай бұрын
A little bit of both, I would say initially a little bit of pulling, and then swinging with all left hand. Utilizing rotation and core is key.

The problem with my 2H backhand is the extra it took to get ready where the ball came in fast and further out the reach. Unless my footwork improved quite a bit, It’s easier to reach out with a single hand.

This is true, although if you work on your positioning, it can help out a bunch.

I get this strategy for HIM. And players like him. YOUNG and able to compete with fast reactions. If your like me and I am playing a younger banger the last thing I want is to get in a volley war with them. Sooner or later I going to lose that battle. Instead I turn there shot against them as their dives are going to be hit with a ton of top spin that’s is how they keep them down and not go out. I don’t want to return any shots above their knees this allows them to continue to bang shots with top spin. Also I don’t want to counter top spin with top spin as their shot has so much top spin I need to counter and reverse that spin likely my return will not get enough top spin to reverse the spin already on their shot. So why bother instead use the slice it will USE the spin they put on the shot and then add to it Then aim low. At their feet if you can or switch it across court to their team mates outside hand the added distance will allow you more space to get the shot down and you take the pace out now they have to hit up. I don’t want to try and out drive them or out volley them they have faster reaction them me if I play their game I am going to lose the point more then I will win it. I prefer to take the power away and reset. Make them uncomfortable get them moving and always hitting up not driving speedups. This requires you to practice dropping shots away from their reach and very close to the net or always hitting your attacks at their feet make the mistake of hitting shots above their knees you will lose. If your an older player and you meet a younger player you need to make them play your game not try and beat them at theirs. They will be able to move and cover the court and they will return shots but if your resets are placed well they will be running to them or reaching and hopefully hitting UP most bangers doesn’t work on finesse shots so most likely THEY will give you a pop up and THEN you hit that speed up into the open space they left running about. Trying to hit speed ups at them won’t win you points their reaction is too quick. And yours is NOT.

The majority of players that come and train with me are over 50+, and they are all at different levels, and they all learn how to counter well. Being able to “soften” or drop the ball short in the court is an important skill, although learning to counter the ball against good “drivers” is an even more important skill. It’s much harder to hit a drop volley when the ball is coming in hard, especially with topspin. You have to be able to do both.
@BrionesPickleball3 ай бұрын
The key is getting the ball short, away, or at their feet.

I just hate balls driven at me - happens every time I am the only female on the court- the two guys opposite me drive everything at me. I have a great two handed backhand, but at the body I get jammed up.( with two hander) I can typically slide to right to counter the balls that are to my left . Also- maybe these guys should drive to the male player - but no they are afraid to do that lol
@BrionesPickleball3 ай бұрын
Body shots are tough. You have to work on sliding quicker, give yourself space OFF on the NVZ to give you more time, OR develop a one handed counter for body shots!

Just block the ball back with your paddle and do not put any additional power on your hit as the banger already put enough power on his hit.

I'm not sure I have time to slightly swing vs hard shots - the block isn't a bad idea. If I need the reach, I can't do the two-ee. I see where this shot works but it's best used when you have the space and time. Great video though Jordan

@@fjg8340 You can only hit their feet if they bang UP at you and the ball is IN your striking zones. I guess that you only play with 3.5 or below bangers, not the tennis type who are fully aware of placement, percentage, etc.
