The formal address of the sisters is according to the setting/period. The eldest, unmarried daughter is Miss , like Miss Sharma for Kate. The younger, unmarried daughter(s) is addressed as Miss , like Miss Edwina. When being introduced, the eldest daughter is introduced first and then the other daughter(s) are named thereafter. It’s something I’ve grown used to as I watch period pieces. Once you know this formality, it makes it easier to follow dialogue between characters especially when they talk about other characters. 😂🧐

To explain the Lord Featherington thing. He was never going to actually be romantically involved with the family. It was just because none of the girls could take over as head of the household because sexism. So they brought a Featherington in to take over the household. When the new Lord Featherington leaves, Lady Featherington makes a contract so that whichever one of her daughters had a son first, that son will take over the estate.
@TheBlushBunny2 жыл бұрын
So what about when the daughter he married wanted to have children? Hypothetically speaking. Were she just to not have children or procreate outside of the “marriage”.
@annikaruelo13832 жыл бұрын
@@TheBlushBunny If you are talking about if Lord Featherington did go through with his marriage to Prudence (because i think that is what you're saying I'm not so sure). Then their children would take over the estate anyway. Lord Featherington would still be the head of the estate and Prudence would now be the lady of the house. Once they have children the estate would naturally go to them. The contract probably wouldn't be in place anyway, since Lady Featherington wouldn't have kicked new Lord Featherington out of the house. And if the contract still were in place and they got married anyway, I don't think he would be the Lord of the house anymore so whichever one of the sisters to have a son would take ownership of the estate. If that makes any sense. I wasn't too sure on the question so correct me if I interpreted it wrong.

Unpopular Opinion (controversial almost): Pen isn't that bad. I mean if you see what she went through and how everything is working against her (except her newspaper thing), I think she did what she had to keep her business going. If she had told Eloise before she had thrown her under the bus she would have gotten a very similar reaction. I mean like if you want to be a good Correspondent you have to keep your feelings at home and be professional which I think Penelope really did. Besides that, yeah what she did to her best friend is wrong but good for her business.

This season was not Pen's best moment, but she was right when she said Eloise DOESN'T DO ANYTHING. When Pen snapped at Eloise and said at least Lady Whistledown gets people talking, I sat back for a second and thought, she does have a point. As raggedy as Lady Whistledown is, nothing she publishes is different from the muckrakers of that time causing a fuss in political arenas. Eloise, on the other hand spent all season whining about how terrible a woman's place is, without actually fighting for change. She goes to one rally, meant to push her into the arms of a man, and that's it. And this season, instead of sounding passionate and rebellious, Eloise sounded condescending and rude. Her abrasive attitude would work, if the people she were hounding were the ones who had control over the system. But the women she bothered didn't have any power. And she didn't use her privilege to give them any. No secret book clubs, or meetings discussing woman's suffrage, just lectures to poor girls who already know their lot in life. It would have been so much better if Eloise had secret meetings about woman's rights and Pen exposed that, instead of it being about Eloise's thwarted romance with some forgettable guy. Also it was cringe in one scene when she was going on about how inconsequential marriage was to a table women of color. How you gonna sit across from a Black girl and lecture her about how hollow her life is? I know the world is "colorblind" in Bridgerton, but that scene felt awkward. Part of it is on the writers, I felt like a lot of characters were spinning their wheels this season. It became abundantly clear the writers have no idea what they can do with Benedict. A grown man whining about art school, with five different characters having to raise his self esteem, jeez.

you are so right and I'm so glad you said it!!! this is exactly my problem with Eloise as well. Pen did questionable things for sure but she was a million times more badass than Eloise ever was with her "I'm not like other girls" attitude. she sounded so privileged every single time she opened her mouth, which is fine, she IS privileged, but i really hoped the season would focus on her seeing that and learning how to truly stand up for women. instead she looked down upon everyone around her for no real reason. it was giving internalized misogyny in the worst way. and the whole Theo thing is so funny to me because in the first ever episode when i saw Eloise and Pen interact i thought they were inlove lmao so i was expecting at least Eloise to be queer but oh well :') as much as i loved this season i hope the writers get a grip on some of their... decisions.

I actually can’t stand Eloise. I’m not too sure if it’s the writing, or maybe the way that the actor portrays her, but she just annoys me so much. She feels like the random token character that was thrown in there to show support for women’s rights and “say the things we’re all thinking”, or address how bad forced marriages are/how not all women want that etc. like her character just seems so forced at times and awkward, and as mentioned here, she doesn’t actually do anything to make change. She just complains all the time I think making her lady whistledown would’ve been too obvious, but at least give her some more depth. It seemed like there could be an opening, with that guy she met at the rally and how it was eventually shown that she’s very ignorant to the classes outside of her own. Maybe she could go out more and learn about the real world and then add on from there? Idk lol.

FINALLY someone puts it into words. Eloise irritated me so much with that. It shows how incredibly self absorbed and oblivious she is. She doesn’t have to worry about marriage because she’s the second daughter and her older sister married well, but the girls at the table may not be in that same situation. Those other girls there may have been an only child or the eldest, with marriage being the only option they have. It annoyed me that Eloise, with her claims to being smart and supportive of women’s rights, didn’t even consider that.

I am a Polin shipper, but see where you are coming from. Be prepared for a rant. Sorry. I had more issues with Eloise than Penelope though. Eloise was all about Eloise and never tried to talk to Penelope about things she wanted to talk about. Not condoning her (in a way) outing Eloise. And while it was way too short, she did quit the pamphlet. Also, Penelope kept warning Eloise about Theo and staying away and so did Theo himself. Eloise refused to listen. I just felt that Eloise was more selfish. I don’t know why I still ship Polin, but I do. I hate that they made Colin and most of the guys this season into jerks. They did not need to be especially for the reason of making the women seem superior in comparison. I feel that is a little sexist. That being said, I enjoyed season 2 much more than season 1 and appreciate the less sex. I don’t need to see sex scenes in every single episode or a montage of people doing it 20 times in a row. It is unnecessary. If it something you are into, all good. It is just not my taste especially when I feel like I am a peeping tom watching them. Ew!

Eloise becoming a mini suffragette and meeting a working class boy!!!? Like yes!!! More of that please. I mean it still did the thing where they (Simon/Kate) end up 'happy' in a situation that is completely opposite to what they always said they wanted ... It made me really uncomfortable in season 1 when that man did not want children ... And now ostensibly in season 2 since we never see him, he is trapped at home caring for those kids alone. Wtf
@cathy91002 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the season 1 ending was so fucked up. I prefer the season 2 ending bc Kate didn't become trapped with Anthony or trapped in a position she didn't want. The show actually made it a point to show how much she actually did want it, when Edwina said something like "Do what you want to now," freeing Kate from the duty she imposed on herself. This is when she finally went after Anthony and allowed herself to be happy and marry him. Season 1's ending was horrible.

Im not going to lie, I was a little bit sad over Eloise's arc this season. Specifically, the part where she falls for a guy. I've never read the books so who knows where it will go in later seasons, but I generally hate it when stories have strong female characters whose main thing is "I want there to be more to life than marriage"/"Stop pressuring me to perform femininity"/"I want the freedoms that a man has over his own life"/etc, and the resolution to their... "problem" is that they were just waiting for the right man to come along? Like seriously? -_- Obviously i have no problem with romance in general otherwise i wouldn't watch the show but i am little bitter they cant leave SOME characters without a romantic interest.
@livelovelife322 жыл бұрын
huh. That's a different outlook. It never occurred to me to think she suddenly wasn't a strong woman with her own mind just because she met someone who also believed in women's rights. Gonna prepare u now cause she she does get with someone. Won't go into what I think of her book or the guy she ends up with but I and many others would have preferred the show to take a different route and please stick with Theo. There are those that support the book's couple ofcourse but personally I find her and Theo a far better match. Eloise left her brother's wedding to go to the guy and tell him she thinks about him does he also think about her. It was such an Eloise thing to do. No beating around the bush or pretending they don't like each other for 8 episodes. None of that enemies to lovers thing. No hang up about his class. Eloise behaved exactly like herself. I must say I enjoyed the straightforward 'I know what I want' moves of this romance from both sides. We don't see too much of that in Bridgerton. I believe the only reason she even broke it off was because Pen telling her people were talking about them was in the back of her mind and she was worried for Theo. Which is the reason Theo broke it off earlier when I think about it. They really are very alike.
@blame46672 жыл бұрын
this is a very weird take. eloise has never been against romance or love, her main problem has always been towards society and it’s treatment of women. she can still believe all things u put in quotes while simultaneously being in love. i mean it it because of her relationship with theo that she was able to open herself up to more radical ideas of feminism that weren’t previously available to her. and honestly if u think her falling in love makes her any less of a strong female character then that seems to be more of a problem within yourself than with the show.
@bellyjean66522 жыл бұрын
@@blame4667 I see where you are coming from but that's not exactly what i mean. i don't think her falling in love makes her less of a strong character, just that i feel like it contradicts with the way her character always behaved before. and ill also say my dissatisfaction is partially because i felt she was queer/ace/aro coded but i was wrong about that. i really wanted that rep in such a popular mainstream show like bridgerton

@@bellyjean6652 perhaps that representation may come in via a different character? They are changing many things about the show vs the bks but I don't think changing a major character's sexuality just for representation is wise. However, since they changed races they may still do so (Benedict seemed like he was leaning towards bi) but they could just as easily bring in a new character (like they did last season). Tbh I'm not sure why people thought Eloise may be queer? I saw a lot of reactors seem surprise about her romance but nowhere in the show is her sexuality even slightly hinted at until the moment she met Theo. All the show showcased until then was her intelligence, her disgust for society's shackling of women, and her disdain for marriage because of the circus around it and the stupid belief women were only good for one thing.

I disagree that Kanthony deserve appreciation for showing respect to Edwina by not getting physical. Both of them actively deceived a naive innocent girl and almost robbed her of a chance at a happy marriage. Edwina deserved to know early on that the man who was courting her so persistently was deeply in love with her sister. Plus, I often found Kate's behavior quite inappropriate and disgusting. Like kissing Anthony minutes after Edwina's speech. It didn't help that the girl playing Kate is not a very good actress (constant head-shaking and wide-eyed staring). Perhaps the character would have been more likeable in the hands of a better actress.

I disagree about the chemistry. I think the second season couple have way more chemistry than the first one.

I don’t really like Eloise, she comes across bratty and whiny to me. I like Penelope though and I love Kate.

A guy in my 8th grade class was my best friend's crush from her 7th grade class. He would flirt with me and try to convince me to date him, but I was the awkward fat girl and I was sure that he was just trying to play with me, plus I would never break girl code. Strangely me and my bestie have never liked the same guy at the same time in our 21+ year friendship. Eventually he left me alone, but the same thing happened with a different guy the following semester. A girl from class tried to convince me that the first guy did like me, but I was certain that he liked her the whole time. Flash forward to 13+ years later, ran into him at the bowling alley, and he was definitely into me, and I was still not interested 😝😂 Now being on the other side of the friendzone is my natural state. They have erected a statue in my honor and I have my own parking space 😑🙃🤪

Not you a resident of the friend zone now. Lol Maybe he came back into your life for a reason and you didn’t give it a chance 👀

the way race was handled in bridgerton was so off to me, because nobody seems to perceive that lady danbury simon and the queen are people of color, but marina and the sharmas are initially seen really weirdly for being people of color? and the scene where edwina's grandmother is being super rude about their father made me really uncomfortable because it was one of the few cases where racism was explicitly in the dialogue and as a south asian it was really off-putting to me that in one of the few shows i've seen with south asian main characters they had to be discriminated against in some form.

I thought that season 2 was just OK, even slightly better than season 1. But it was before I watched reviews of those who have read the books and found out how much (unnecessary) changes were made

The changes were definitely necessary.

Valid opinion. Often times people enjoy novels more.
