The solar roof is pretty interesting, it may not be a lot per day but it would keep the battery from discharging if you were to leave it while on holiday or at work, for me that’s kinda peace of mind that I won’t come back to it losing range after a 12 hour shift.

I've owned mine for 3 months. 7k+ miles on the clock. Absolutely love mine. Software still needs work obviously but the build quality and driving characteristics of the car are phenomenal.

My model y LR doesn’t come close to that actual range and Tesla even recently de-rated their stated range. I wanted an Ocean but needed 6 seats so I bought the Y. I can see myself in one of these someday when I don’t have all my kids to haul around.

Got to admit that car has a lot of nice features. Also real world range is different than EPA for all of these.That rear camera rear view mirror would be nice on Y and I know you can get it aftermarket but it's not a easy install.

I have an Ocean One for over a month now and it’s awesome, really unique and fun to drive all the time. For those saying the Solar Sky roof is a gimmick, sure it may be and may only get a few miles per day, but having the ability to open the roof to me is more important. Not many other EVs, if any, have the ability to open such a large roof. I haven’t really had issues with mine and OTAs have been rolling out and will only improve the Ocean.

Also it means you can leave it parked out in the open for as long as you want without being worried about the battery being drained as likely the charge is enough to compensate for any vampire drain, except if you live near or inside any of the polar circles in winter.

Great Job! I just love KZbin University, as I call it, because I learn about stuff everyday. Your video popped up because I have a Bolt EUV, our first EV and we just love it. But I keep researching to see what might be next. The Fisker Ocean is something I never heard of until your video and everything about it, including your enthusiasm, appears to be everything we’re looking for: compact SUV EV with a power grid sunroof and bi directional charging for when our power goes out.

Customers don’t think they care about the size of the battery but they do when it comes time to charging. What matters then is the miles gained per minute. So if Tesla can offer similar range with a 40% smaller battery (or put another way, the Fisker battery is 60% larger for 10% more range). then the Fisker customer will need 60% longer to charge and capture the same number of miles.

The total range may be slightly longer than the model Y, but when traveling miles per hour of charging is more important. This is not just how many kilowatts are going into the battery at any given point. You also have to figure in the miles the car travels per kilowatt hour. If the Tesla is 20% more efficient and charges 20% faster It’s significantly better for traveling.

*Rivian, Tesla, Fisker, Lucid… I’m loving all the new players in the luxury EV* sector. The more the merrier & each has a different approach. Only one has a decent charging infrastructure though. Hopefully all catch up not just in terms of car sales but also public availability of chargers countrywide(worldwide).

I'm really glad you posted this, Kim! It looks very tempting! What's not to like? Well… okay… not having a frunk. Still, it has loads of whiz-bang features and a great range. Did you notice if its "lane keep" doesn't require applying "torque" to the steering wheel? (I'm so sick of that in my Model 3!) And what about one-pedal driving? (To me, that's a must for any EV.) I hope you'll also check out an Ioniq 5 soon, as I value your attention to detail. It might not have as many whiz-bang functions as the Ocean, but is reportedly a real competitor.

Not to like: -No phone-key, in 2023! -Need tools to open the hood! -No headrest adjustment -LESS THAN HALF THE CARGO SPACE of a Model Y! -Maybe just me but that strip down the back seats is hideous ;p Don't like the badge on the hood either. -Limited boosts -Lag on touchscreen!! -No FSD -Probably crappy Autopilot (because it always is) -Probably half the software features of a Tesla (because always is) -Price, after credit... Nice vehicle, I would buy one however up here in the great white north the fisker one starts at $90k with no government rebates. The model Y RWD starts at $58k and you get the federal rebate of $5k and depending what province you are in, you can get up too another $7k rebate..

There is no way, the model Y has double the trunk capacity. I looked it up and the Fisker has 812.1 liters or 28.7 cubic feet (EPA) with seats UP.

the only other vehicle i've been in that has a rear windshield that rolls down is the Toyota 4Runner. My friend has one and the only time he rolls that down is when he wants to dump out smoke after smoking a blunt in the car. Which has led me to a lot of conclusions about why Fisker calls it "California Mode"

The ocean symbol can be interpreted as a pictogram for water or well an ocean, it can be represented with two parallel sguigly lines representing two rows of waves washing towards the shore. However in this case they are flat so I guess it s a stylistic change or the former might be trade marked by some other companyso they had to compromise.

make that a hybrid and I am all over it. Due to charging station issues (location, CROWDS, etc) I just cannot do a full EV. My brother's friend drove from the coast into our town to visit and he had to drive about 200 miles, round trip, out of the way for a stupid charger.

I find the California mode pretty amusing since I've never had a car that rolls all of the windows down like that except German cars (BMW, Mercedes, Audi, VW) and considering the Fisker Ocean is built by Magna, which builds the Mercedes G Class, The Jaguar E-Pace and I-Pace, the BMW Z4, and the Toyota Supra. All in a former Daimler plant in Graz, Austria.

Kim, despite being a dyed-in-the-wool Teslateer and the fact that this has opened up a lot of opportunities for you and your family with regards to your KZbin channel, in a roundabout way, do you consider it a bit of a relief to finally be able to broaden your horizons and focus on a much wider range of technologies, including those not specifically EV related? As a viewer, as much as I've enjoyed all of the Tesla related content over the years, I am definitely enjoying the broader reach of the channel. In broad terms, it's so easy to develop tunnel vision and become more than a little tribalistic and obsessed with whatever it is that we're interested in, EV's or otherwise. It's so important to remember that there's a big ol' wide world out there. 😊

Car looks great. The solar roof is a gimmick, physics is physics and to be of any use it needs to be at least 15 sq m or you need a vehicle as efficient as an Aptera.....but.....Just like when I had my Tesla Model S P85 back in 2015 and Im so proud it has no engine the only thing people wanted to know about was "wow the door handles move on their own"....... I hated those handle as I knew they would just fail but Tesla was right thats what set the car apart at the time, so it is with the Fisker solar roof but just like Tesla door handles maybe it sells cars.

Fisker claims 28.7 cubic feet of truck space so not sure where you got the 17 from. Anyway, you can't compare the trunk volumes directly because they're measured differently. In Teslabjorn's banana box test the Model Y could fit 9 boxes in the trunk which is pretty average in its class. Others in the same class fit 8-12 boxes with MB EQB being the best and e.g. Ioniq 5 fitting 11 boxes despite having much less trunk space officially.

It is quite impressive to make a complex well built car from scratch and seemingly at modest expense. It has a Range Rover flavor but I think it's missing a little to look good enough to break through among the now well established competition, by an unknown car maker. Also the sales execution seems to be a little stumbling, potential customers complain that they can't reach Fisker about endless delays. Tesla ramp-up back in the day was also fairly slow but I was surprised at how few locations Fisker had established before production began. With a mass production apparatus you want as many sales as possible both for exposure and profitability. But it's possible they could slowly come along. Currently the stock has taken a massive hit, down 95% from highs but if they build sales and survive there is a big upside.

My speculation is that the solar roof only charges the low-voltage system. Meaning it might keep your 12 V battery charged as the vehicles computers use that power when the vehicle is not being used kind of like phantom, drain and over the course of the year equates to 1500 miles. Because let’s be honest, I have 48 full size solar panels on my roof and can only produce about 100 kW on a full sunny day.

You have to always park in the sun? It's okay in the winter, but in the summer, it'll be uncomfortably hot all the time. I prefer to park in shade or garage, that will defeat the solar panels features. Also, with the constant heat from the sun, I wonder how it will affect the longevity of car's paint, interior material, and even some electronic components. Is the little amount of energy generated from the solar panels even worth it?

Very BIG Plus Point.. Built In Solar Panel charging . 2 way charging, no worries about range anxiety... If u are stuck in a traffic jam, you are charging free. and cheaper than a tesla with so many Xtrra features.
