From a pike fisherman who deals with weedy bottoms on every trip is seriously recommended trying a popup rig, you simply add a small (1/2") black/orange/red foam ball bead to the leader and fasten it in place with a stopper or a stop knot or even apiece of matchstick as a wedge, the foam ball keeps the bait out of the weed and off the bottom if you use the right length leader etc. It's used for ledger fishing but that's very similar to a carolina rig from what I've seen so it should work fine. I'm pretty sure it's a technique used for catfish too just less common in the states, it's similar to/the same as using a ledgered floating boilie (aka a popup boilie) for carp
@kenbriscoe98743 жыл бұрын
That wont work as he likes to catch bottom feeders
@Lilith-Rose3 жыл бұрын
@@kenbriscoe9874 people use popups for catfish a lot, just keeps the bait within a foot of the bottom but out of the weed
@adamstanley19962 жыл бұрын
We call this the Santee Cooper rig in the states, keeps the bait about a foot to 2 off the bottom in the strike zone, just a carolina rig with a peg float on the leader midway between the swivel and hook.

Nick there is a store in Alton Illinois I don’t know if you have heard of it it is called Bluff City outdoors and they have a lot of stuff for having a store the size of a small basement and until the 15 th of December you can go snagging at the missipippi river for spoonbill and bluff city is a great place to get the snagging stuff.

Sometimes when it’s weedy like that you can fish bait on a power shot rig, a heavy duty drop shot. It help get the actual bait off the bottom out of weeds. Depends on how the grass is though. Love the vids and I miss the micro-lure challenges.

Hey 618 I enjoy your videos on my free time, I love everything about your content but when your fishing tough bottoms I highly suggest a bobber stopper rig with a splitshot or jig that matches the current and bobber buoyancy so your bait looks like a floating free meal that can pull your bobber down without effort. Works everytime for me

Love your vids. You clearly know your stuff but I thought I'd share a netting tip. Reaching with the net can spook the fish. If you have the net already under the surface and slide the fish over it, the fish are less likely to get spooked and take off again.

You can use a drift rig to help with the seaweed. Put a decent sized bobber below the weight and above the hook (leave a good bit of line between the weight and hook) and you can adjust how high you’re bait will sit. It’ll also help catch some decent cats. They’ll naturally hunt a few feet off the bottom
