I always figured it was just Raider art. Many gangs decorate their bases with bodies and scrap as it is, and I doubt Ashur would tear this down, it might hurt morale if he did.

I like the fact you're always being reminded that you're only the main character for a brief chunk of the area's history. Many came before, and many will come after, and what you accomplish will only be half-remembered by whoever finds your bones. Apart from in Appalachia. Nothing you do there means anything at all 🤣

As long as you understand that the actual reaaon most of it is something like: a designer: "Hey Todd, I think it would look cool to have like a corpse in the statue" Todd: "Sick! Maybe pose it as a baby too, damn, bet that will look cool in that one dlc."

@@jonholla6463 You good bro? I just made a joke and you wrote my biography lmao If I were to respond actually, which im pretty sure you arent worth the breath since you seem to have been educated on TikTok. I think Fallout is best when it has to tackle big, tough topics. Part of the reason why F:NV is beloved is things like Caeser's legion who are open slave traders, banned homosexuality, ect. At first glance, you can assume they are the villains of the game. But they are not, there are benefits to choosing them over the NCR. Same goes with the NCR, at first glance very inclusive, a democracy, ect. You can see them as the heroes of the game. But they are not, they mistreat many people, are corrupt and have conscription. These are topics handled with grace and nuance. So personally, when I see a group of people, forcefully migrated into a disgusting, irradiated city, so foul it makes you turn into a feral, subhuman creature, working on steel mills at gunpoint called "labourers" like they work at my Dads construction job, is pretty fuggin disrespectful. If you see the word "slave" and immediately think black people, you might be the racist you call everyone. Normal people don't think or see race everywhere they look. Sincerely, get off twitter, it'll help you adjust back into society, instead of screaming like a chimpanzee at ghosts youve invented. I'm on your side, despite how badly you want to exclude as many people as possible from being on your side.

It's been many years since I've played The Pitt, but to the best of my knowledge, there is no similar pre-war art style elsewhere in that DLC. Admittedly, modern art rarely fits the surroundings (looking at you, Cloud Gate) but for this sculpture to exist pre-war, I'd find it highly unlikely. The only other similar sculpture to exist (again, offhand) in the Capital Wasteland would be the one featured in the home of Dukov (and the player home, with the correct theme package). Both are anthropomorphic metal sculptures, larger in scale and with very evocative posture. But even then, they also appear radically different in construction and symbolism so while they aren't directly connected, it does show the disparity of pre-war modern art depicting full body humanoids. Looking around the structure, we see the plaza is cracked and deformed with many of the cracks leading directly towards and around the sculpture; were it pre-war, those fissures would certainly destabilize if not outright topple the statue and it seems rather silly to righten a fallen statue but not repair or reinforce its base. (Yes, there are chains, but they are decorative- attached at points of bondage- plus they're slack, so they're not actually tensioned to keep anything sturdy.) Also, the handmade and rough quality would again imply it was made post-war with scrap metal and crude unskilled hands. As for the body parts, they appear to be both fresh and human in nature but with no apparent seam or way to get a full human corpse up there- even in pieces- it is certainly a mystery. My initial thought was that it is a very complicated Gibbet, and the reason its not spoken of by anyone is because that is the law. The person encased within the statue cannot be acknowledged under pain of death or internment. After all, what could be worse than being publicly encased within a rusted human statue while being blasted with flames? Being ignored by your friends and family while it happened. Of course, it could just be a developer easter egg with no canon or lore whatsoever. The classic bethesda crapshoot really.

I don't think you can take 76 lore as cannon though. They seem to just be throwing everything they have into 76 and making tenuous connections to existing lore after the fact. It does make sense to me why though: you need more variety in an MMO to keep people playing. Once people start leaving, more players will leave because there aren't enough other players online, and the whole thing snowballs.

I always saw it as a person that represented the oppression of slaves, given that you can actually see chains holding the statue to the ground. I never realized there was an actual body in there, but I believe it to still be the body of a slave who tried to either escape or fight back. Asher may not kill EVERY slave who tries to escape, otherwise he might actually run out of slaves at some point, but chose to make an example out of one to show what may happen when you try and escape.

That is a damn good theory. And a very practical idea for the statue. Any stray , very hungry trogs that brave the flood lights and get drawn into the " honey trap" of a reasonably fresh killed body in the statue. But would struggle to get the body out and drag it away. So the guards would see soon enough and put down the rogue trog threat. And yeah , between slaves that die in the hole . Or out of control raiders that lose it cause of the TDC would be in steady supply you would think.

Just kidding, of course. I thought the prayer was pretty good for on the fly Pittsburgh prayer though, no? The real Cathedral of Learning is pretty impressive itself though. If you're ever coming to Pittsburgh enter through the Fort Pitt tunnel at night if possible and check it and lots of other places while you're at it. I say it represents all humanity being a slave to industry and to another man’s ambition. Men and women who are nameless and not war veterans died keeping global economies running, now they’re dying nameless as slaves to a sociopath who refuses to call them “slaves” because it helps him sleep better at night. But you know who else The Pitt is a slave to? The player, you the outsider who arrives to either change the status quo or who reinforces Ashur’s domination over his subjects.

I always thought that the statue wasn't meant for the raiders that lived there, but for the slaves to remind them of their place. The dead body was probably someone significant to the slaves, like someone who tried to lead a slave revolt only to serve as an example to the others. Or maybe it's just a wicked creepy statue to show off. Either way, it serves it's purpose well.

To me it doesnt fit with the gothic, or neo gothic or art decó or atomic ray punk from fallout... And also it has any pedestal such as the other sculptures in fallout: Like the anchorage memorial or the muscled guys holding rings of rivet city or the sculptures. Even the NCR ranger statue has a small plaque indicating what means. For me its more just like: Lets pull that thing from that museum and put it on my back yard it would look nice! This was interesting a.f . There's some real interesting thoughts and theory in comments. The Pitt is home to my favourite F3 character. Yeah at first glance on first playthrough I figured just what it looked like. The one dimensional depiction of a subjugated slave. I did notice later on ,coming and going from Haven. There was a body inside. Could very well be a punished slave who tried to escape ( that managed to kill some Pitt raiders on the way. Hence the brutal retribution?) And that is the worst kind of punishment for a Pitt slave. Putting them in stocks, could be for stealing food or hiding and slacking off or something more petty like that. Putting the body inside the chained down slave also could be a Pitt raider who was repeatedly warned by Ashur, not to abuse , torture or r#pe or kill slaves? For sure ,we know Ashur "strings up" the worst offenders in his own army. And this punishment, fate looks extra brutal. As the victim has definitely been skinned, or flayed alive? The body , flesh still has colour ,so is kind of fresh. Doing that to a disobedient raider ,left in front of Ashur's palace is a strong example you dont forget in a hurry. Or another theory I got. If you dont try to work your way up from the "scab caste" . If you never try , if you don't have the courage to fight in the hole ,win your freedom, and join Ashur's army. Or dont have the strength and determination to work hard and work your way up and out of scab caste to a more managerial, more comfortable foreman position. As not everyone can be a good warrior. Then you are destined to live and die as a lowly slave in the Pitt, and any offspring, over a generation or more, you or your line might be able to have through any phenomenon of fertility. As the TDC makes most infertile. Will suffer the same fate. Be born as perpetual slaves, always be chained down on the lowest level, living on their knees. Way I see it, that statue might not be there just to demoralise slaves. But to light a fire in the strongest to want and strive for a better existence in the Pitt.

Celtic Pagan here. There is actually very little proof that the wickerman was a real thing. The sole source of it is Roman, and tye Romans routinely propagandized about the so-called "barbarians" to politically justify the resources being sunk into the long and often costly campaigns into western europe. Further, multiple tests have been done to understand the physics behind the concept of the wickerman, and every one of them has concluded that a structure of such large scale in such a shape was simply not possible with the technology of the era, reinforcing that they never actually existed and were simply Roman propaganda. Similar things have been said of the germanic peoples Eostre celebrations including mass slaughter of prisoners and the use of their blood to soak farmers fields.

I'd be a bit more careful about stating things about history that are only talked about in a few sources that were very much outsiders to the culture being spoken about.
