This brought me back to my college acting class doing a piece from Mildred Pierce. The director cut me off so loud “You think this is funny? You’re supposed to be angry!” Ever since then I’d practiced in front of a mirror or filmed myself doing monologues constantly to get my emotions under control. Great video as always Tristan.

Thank you so much for watching Courtney!! Lol that’s an intense way to get an actor to express that. Yes it’s definitely helpful to start taking that smile out of scenes more!

regarding nerves, looking into the STOP and RAIN techniques has been helpful for me as well as meditating and just being aware of my thought processes and how my brain works. if you recognize the nerves as a feeling and note them, "oh, this is just a feeling", I have found they have less power. the more you recognize and allow the experience to be there, as you said, the easier it will be to sit with uncomfortable feelings especially when auditioning!
@TristanSpohnAKASpiderman7 ай бұрын
I will have to definitely try that one out! And yes, most of the affect on nerves come from the resistance of them, so just embracing them helps ironically diluting them. Thank you for watching!

Awesome video! That’s a really interesting thing I’ve never noticed. Another thing I’ve recently noticed in myself is that I excessively blink, and in film, you generally want to avoid blinking. Who would’ve thought? Lol I wanted to ask, have you ever taken an online acting class? Because I want to get back in the groove of taking classes, and I feel like being in person would probably be better, but I don’t want to limit myself if there are good online options too. Keep up the good vids man :)
@TristanSpohnAKASpiderman7 ай бұрын
This is totally true as well!!! Haha yes once you notice actors never blink you can’t unnotice it. As someone with blue eyes, it was quite the muscle I had to work. 😮💨 One of the small differences between real-life and life on film. A blink on the big screen travels SO far. Also yes, I’ve taken a few online classes! I also teach online acting classes. There are absolutely benefits and drawbacks so a combination of the two can be beneficial. The benefits are of course meeting a wide range of different people from around the country/world. Especially if you’re in a region that doesn’t have a strong film community, it’s great to have that accessibility to people looking to have a career instead of exploring a hobby. It’s also great to have a teacher that has more of resume, which isn’t always accessible in smaller markets. Navigating acting on-set is very different from in a class, so having someone that can teach that side of the experience is extremely helpful. I WILL say I’m currently workshopping my own little online community with the goal to equip actors with all the tools they need to turn it into a career and enhance their craft. I’m also bringing in industry guests/experts to help offer other perspectives on the craft. I’m not really going to be publicizing this for awhile, but since it seems like it could be something you’re interested I thought I’d throw it out there! Send me an email if you’d like more information! (filmvigilante@gmail.com)

I’m watching like all of your videos right now 😭 i’d love to be casted in season 3 of the percy jackson series, so hopefully i can get an agent and some acting experience by then since it’s a closed casting. You’re amazing, keep up the great work man

Thank you. I hope you get that agent as well!! Keep improving your materials and working on the craft and I'm certain you'll get there eventually. Good luck!

I just had my first addition the other day. They said I wasn't smiling enough!
@TristanSpohnAKASpiderman7 ай бұрын
Yay!!! Huge congratulations to you!! 🎉 And not everyone struggles with this. It’s also very subtextual. This is more so if you notice the trend that every audition you behave this way. Some auditions are bright and smiley and that’s okay. I will say however the same issue of nerves can cause the opposite. Nerves manifest differently in everyone. There was a period I hated my smile and thus stifled it as best I could. You can’t really use one audition to perfectly diagnose your block, but rather notice trends among many auditions. Every character is different.

Hey Tristan! Funny enough I saw your videos recommended to me and I figured you looked familiar, I was in the TEM class with Glenn for a few years and I noticed we had a lot of mutuals and I remember your scenes being shown in my Monday class, I’m with a different coach now but what a small world. Your videos are really informative, can you show your self tape set up and what you record with?

@TristanSpohnAKASpiderman7 ай бұрын
Oh yes it has all sorts of different manifestations. This is definitely where learning psychology can come to help your acting. You can easily pick up on why certain things can make an audience subconsciously feel a certain way.

Hi i watched your stranger things videos and they were very helpful. Could you maybe dive a little deeper in your character development/ scene analysation? The notes you showed, when for example did u know the objective so clearly? For me thats most of the time the most difficult part
@TristanSpohnAKASpiderman7 ай бұрын
Great idea! We definitely have some tactical acting videos on the filming list. Trying to think of the right way to package them so they reach the right audience. ☺️ We have some really fun videos coming up that don’t specifically attack that, but tease at it a little bit. Hopefully some of our videos can give you an idea of it so by the time we release that video it’s like a structured video bridging together the variety of concepts I can reference in the videos. All that to say, we have a lot of great stuff coming!

does any1 else have the problem where they are doing the scene but just can't move or think that it is the wrong time to do a gesture or just make a subtle movement?
