I made this cake a few days before Christmas and finished off the last piece today. Ingredients for making a second one are on counter in my kitchen at this very moment. The flavors of this cake take me back to my childhood when my favorite aunt always made fruitcake for the holidays. No one in the family carried on that tradition after her generation was gone. In the intervening years I occasionally resorted to buying fruitcake when the craving for it hit. I found this easy to make (except for the 48 hours of wait time before tasting it!). I will never eat store bought fruitcake again. Love your content and no nonsense presentation.

I loved the way this was presented. User friendly. Very well planned and executed.There were no boring sections of painstaking chopping, measuring etc. One of the rare youtube cookery demonstrations I have watched without jumping the boring parts. Thank you and definitely will make this fruit cake. It looked absolutely delicious.

I just followed the recipe since this is my first time trying plum cakes. The cakes simply came out to be the best. The customer is highly satisfied with the taste and look.

I recently learned that you shouldn't wrap it in foil because the acid in and on the cake reacts with the foil. You should apparently wrap it in baking paper or cling wrap and then wrap in foil so the acid can't react with the foil. Just thought I'd share that.

I am from the Caribbean and in the absence of alcohol that we use..I can suggest you use any non alcoholic wine and pour it over the cake as you remove it from the over. Later as it cools wrap it in plastic wrap..it doesn't matter if it is warm still..and leave it for a few days. Taste the difference.!

You could boil your fruit the night before and let it cool overnight, then proceed with baking in the morning. I always line my pans completely with greased parchment paper. This looks lovely! I love fruitcake, and when I bake them, baste them in sherry wine or brandy, wrap in muslin and store in a tin until Christmas.

My mum is the OG baker and she has been making fruit cake for decades. The entire family look forward to eating her fruit cake every year, even the raisin haters! She handed her recipe down to me a couple years ago and I've carried on the annual tradition. The recipe I have is a boiled fruit cake recipe and it is similar to your recipe here. I decided to add my own flare to Mum's recipe by using tea to plump up the dry fruit. I also add crystallised ginger and tart dried cherries to my fruit mix. I find that this creates the perfect balance, otherwise it's all just sweet.

I tried this recipe! 😄Turned out super yummy. Everyone liked it 😋 I baked the cake at 140 C for 74 min in 8 inch pan and there was quite a bit of crack on top. What can I do to avoid the cracks?
@JustBrowsing20223 ай бұрын
You can try putting a baking pan with water on the bottom shelf in the oven. Also I recommend putting parchment paper or tinfoil over top the cake after the first 30 minutes of baking. I’ve also seen people put parchment on top at the start of baking with a small hole cut in the middle but I think just putting it on part way thru is easier. If you like your fruitcake soaked with alcohol, wrap it tightly in cling wrap after pouring the alcohol over and this will help hide the cracks if they are not too big. Hope this helps!
