Hello! Tobias (yes that's my real name 🙂) from Sweden here! I'm so glad you've found this beautiful song from our folk music treasure. Sofia Karlsson is probably our most successful folk music singers in the last two decades. She sings in Swedish, and the lyrics it's written by one of Sweden greatest poets of all time - Dan Andersson. The theme of many of his poems are about the hardships of men working in the forrest, far away from their families, being away from them for months. This one is a one of the more joyful poems of his, about a guy that although he's living the hard life in the woods is waiting for a woman - unclear to if it's his loved one, or he's dreaming about a woman he still haven't met. Sofia's version of this song made it to the top of the Swedish charts, and it's not hard to understand why - she's just amazing! 😍 I'll leave a link here to Dan Andersson's Wikipedia article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Andersson?wprov=sfla1 Thanks for your video! 🙂

I asked ChatGPT to translate the lyrics into English, and I think it turned out pretty well - ChatGPT has the ability to translate lyrics, yet keeping the poetic tone quite well, in my opinion. 🙂 Here it goes: I wait by my bonfire as the hours pass As the stars wander and the nights go by I wait for a woman from distant roads The dearest, the dearest with blue eyes I imagined a wandering snow-covered flower I have dreamed of a trembling, elusive laugh I thought I saw the most beloved coming Through the forest, over the heaths on a snow-heavy night Gladly would I carry my dreamed one on my hands Through the thickets to where my hut stands And raise a joyful shout to the dear one Welcome, you who have been awaited in lonely years And raise a joyful shout to the dear one Welcome, you who have been awaited in lonely years I wait by my charcoal kiln as the hours wear on As the forests sing and the skies move I wait for a wanderer from distant roads The dearest, the dearest with blue eyes I wait for a woman from distant roads The dearest, the dearest with blue eyes
