We've been collecting forgotten about DVDs and shredding all the cases down into recycled plastic stock for our products and projects. This video is our take on a stained glass window, but using plywood and recycled plastic instead. This project was hugely inspired by Jimmy Diresta's stained glass window video.
The sheet was made using our awesome new sheet press from the wonderful folks over at CR Clarke - you can find out more about their recycled plastic machinery at www.crclarke.co.uk/products/r... ♻️
The frame was cut using our Stepcraft D840 CNC powered by Vectric Aspire 11. We cut all the plastic pieces using our Wazer water jet cutter, which Wazer sponsored some of the purchase. Check out www.wazer.com for more details on the water jet cutter.

Just an idea - these sheets could make great ‘tiles’ to use as shop floors (or a number of other places). The plastic would soften the impact of tools dropped, would look awesome, and would have no problem handling water in the event of a small flood. Seems like a cool project and a great way to save some plastic from landfills!

PP isn't tough as HDPE, probably tiles from PP breaks in case of a mid size impact, like a hammer falling. So, I think HDPE is better suited for the task (and it's probably why in the industry they often use HDPE mats, for example in front of CNC machinery).

@Brothers Make I think @mrbaseball1996 is really on to something here! A shop floor is a terrific idea, and it would also be great as a kitchen or bathroom floor or bathroom countertop. (Melting might be a problem for a kitchen countertop. 🙁) Still, I think they're gorgeous & would love to use it somewhere in my house!

So, what I've been doing, since the holographic material of the CDs and or DVDs, makes my crow brain really happy, is I have been taking off the holographic film by using packing tape. And it has to be the heavy duty stuff, just take a large piece of packing tape burnish it (that means rubbing vigorously on the tape to ensure adhesion of the holographic film and the tape) and then rip it off like a band-aid. It will give you a nice chunk of holographic film. With enough CDs, I can probably decorate these pieces into decoupaging an item like a bookshelf. It might make it easier without the holographic film to recycle.

Restaurant supply stores sell large cone shaped paper filters for straining deep fryers. I would think that would work for the water cutting machine. Strain the water, let the cone dry, reclaim plastic. Or use a coffee filter. I have no idea how much water the cutter uses. Great video!

You need downcut bits for your cnc to avoid tear out. There are also special upcut-downcut (compression) bits if you want to cut through the material and dont want tear out on either side.

For separating the waste, if the weight difference is significant enough you can spin the waster water down. Your abrasives should be at the bottom. You could also put it into a large bottom release funnel (in Chem we used a separatory funnel) and let it settle naturally and drain out the abrasives slowly

5:34 You need a “down cut” end mill to help with the tear out on plywood and msg. I always use it for a first pass with a 3-4 mm depth. Then switch to a normal ‘up cut’ end mill for the rest of the depth through, and use the down cut for any finishing passes. Basically the geometry of the down cut has the opposite angle so it pushes chips down rather then up. This helps with tear out a lot, but you have to be a little careful with deep cuts because the chips don’t clear out as well and you can get more friction heat if you are doing deep cuts.

I've seen DVD's used to make chimes, (the flat disk for the top, strings hanging down, and aluminum tubing different lengths, and a dVD at the bottom to spin around in the wind to bang against the alluminum tubing, or sun catchers Very Neat Colors, The Red Would be very Cool for Retro Countertops, or they could be used for deck or flooring tiles. I love the colours, too. When I first saw the video thumbnail, I thought that the plastic was translucent, but apparently not. I love that the black helps the colours to really pop. It would be interesting to compare a glossy black to a matte black. I think that matte would create a bit of an optical illusion.

In regard to separating Wazer waste, perhaps something similar to a gravy separator? There are different types, but I think you'd need one with a bottom release. You could build one yourselves with cylinder and funnel if the abrasive doesnt flow well. Drain out abrasive into one container, then the plastic into another, or just pour it out. Run each through a fine mesh sieve or filter.

Hello brothers!, nice doing by reciclying material that usually get discarded as waste for not having another use. RECOMENDATION FOR COLLECTING PLASTIC WASTE FROM THE WATER: I'm studying civil engineering, and one of the classes I take is about water treatment. Since the plastic sediment is fine due to the pressure of the machine, these are a couple of recommendations that I would like to give you: * You can make a modular drainage system at the bottom of the storage tank, which leads perhaps to a bucket, with pipes of standard thickness is enough, however try to avoid elbows with turns greater than 90 degrees, since the sediment will remain clogged , and to be able to collect it, a cloth would be enough so that the water can run and the plastic waste can be collected * To get a rough idea of ​​how often you should empty the machine and filter it so it doesn't get to the point that looks like sand on the beach... divide the number of liters the machine can hold into an approximate amount of sediment each time that ends a series of cuts. That will give you an approximate of how many cuts the machine would do before it becomes plastic waste with water, for safety measure try to drain and filter it to 3/4 of the maximum volumetric capacity. Hello! Love the channel! I recently got a 3d printer, and leftover PLA from spool ends, supports, and so on pile up fairly quickly. There are setups to recycle it back into filament, but those are rather expensive due to the precision required and not something the average DIY user could do. Would it be possible to use a simple setup like your panini presses to turn that leftover filament into sheets/shapes that could be machined using simple tools? I could see that being fairly appealing to the entry-midlevel 3d printer user and a great reuse of material that would otherwise go to waste. Thanks!

I had an idea a few years ago on recycling clothing. If you get the same fabric items in one batch and shred them, then make them into thread and then into fabric again, it would save a lot of waste. If you get a lot of the clothes then they can be sorted by color too. IDEA FOR THE DVD's or CD's: What about making a wind chime? Shiny parts scare away the birds from garden, maybe put some heavier stuff on the back so you get the chime part? I love your table! Very Cool! I wonder if you have plastic that is food safe? Maybe you could make some chopping boards for the kitchen? Or kitchen utensils?

I've collected quite a bit of HDPE at this point... I really need to find a good way to melt it easily. I can only find wrinkly panini presses where I am. Tons of them though. The final result on those tiles looks amazing though. I bet if you added a tounge and groove it would make for great flooring.
