you can change how fast the scroll wheel changes the distance in controls (mouse wheel multiplier), but you can also bind increasing and decreasing the distance as well as resetting it instantly back to zero to keys on your keyboard (sight distance control: increase value, decrease value, reset axis value), since you can set the speed at which holding a key changes the distance (sight distance control: relative control sensitivity and multiplier) and the instant reset is even more useful, although obviously you still have to wait for the gun itself to depress.

It would depend, if, and this is a massive IF, Gaijin added some more thematic missions, like some of Wargamming's special events, this could be useful. One example would be recreating the Dieppe raid, and having the UK/USA attacking points Germany/Italy are supposed to defend, with alternate flank routes being able to be opened by using enough explosives. Beyond that, this tank is way to dependent on getting close range maps like ruined city and Poland.

I mean, IRL the AVRE was able to knock out a panther from 3 meters away after hitting a telephone pole in front of it. so its kill radius should actually be quite a bit larger then it is in game. Ive also heard that its true maximum range was closer to 230m instead of the awful 100-150m that its got ingame, but ive heard varying accounts on that If it just had a range of damage that was larger than a pinhead then it may actually be worthwhile

in real life, this tank wasnt suposed to engage in tank to tank combat, it was made for the Royal Engineers to blow up bunkers and obstacles. usually this thing carried around some much needed materials for the D day operations

It was mildly worse in real life, it has to be reloaded externally, as in a hatch opened in the hull roof and a guy flipped the barrel down to reload it by sticking his hands outside the tank with a huge HE round, this would not be so bad if the AVRE was not intended to attack fortifications full of machineguns or something. the US tested the Petard system and found it to be so unsatisfactory that it believed using a M12 Gun Motor Carriage was considerably safer for the anti-bunker role, and that says alot considering the M12 is a 155MM artillery piece with almost no armor, but it did not have to engage from sub machinegun range like the AVRE did.

@@deepbludreams I mean, yeah. Reloading was much worse irl but on the other hand, it was more meant to be an engineer vehicle - obstacle removal (any kind of obstacles). Basically: fire once, clear the road. If advancing bunkers etc.: fire, clear, smoke, reverse/give cover to infantry. Also it meant to be supported by Crocodiles or other vehicles (not just go on its own). But yeah, I think Brits didn't really like it either and that's why they've made things with 95mm howitzer or taking 105 Shermans. EDIT: I've allowed myself to dig into Churchills AVRE and Churchills in general, and as far as I can see, AVREs were doing pretty okay job with clearing things (bunkers etc) - mostly due to its armour. Can't read anything about anybody getting for example hit while reloading the AVRE even during the battle. Reloading was indeed pain in the ass, but if it works then works I guess.

be thankful its handwaved the reload. the actual AVRE petard is a spigot mortar. The reload is done via a hatch behind the driver, under the gun. If they made it accurate, after every shot you'd have to point the gun forward and then expose the loaders arms to, well everything, by sticking their arms out the top. IDK why they added this vehicle to WT other than a box ticketing exercise. You don't fight concrete bunkers.

That's because it's not a conventional tank as such. It's a vehicle specifically designed for bunker-busting and obstacle clearance. It did its job very effectively in the Normandy campaign especially when working with a Crocodile and even managed to knock out German Panther it encountered.

I learned in the Sturmtiger that the crew voice that comes with the range finder is far more accurate for slow moving projectiles. Which can be bothersome if the radio chat is full with "attack the D point" messages. Or... if you don't speak the language.

My most successful game with the AVRE was on single cap finland where I long flanked around the objective, turned around, and simply blended in with the enemy team heading to the cap, the only enemy who had a brain was a T-28 which was completely helpless in penetrating me anywhere and so I managed to kill 4 people in quick succession while the poor guy was shooting me over and over again. I only died because a teammate dropped a 4000 pound HC bomb directly on the cap and killed me and 3 enemies, no one else noticed a giant churchill among their panzer IIIs and SU-122s and ignored me when I shadow blasted an enemy teammate every 25 or so seconds.

Been having a blast with this. Got a 13 kill run with it the other day and it’s insane what it can do in cq maps like holland. Word of advice, the smokes are your best defense and offense. You go slow enough to the point that you can smoke your way to an opponent. Or you can smoke your position to reload in time when being pushed. You have enough to last the entire match without reloading

I don't know the game very well, only by watching your videos have I been even introduced to it (thank you very much your channel is very nice by the way). But after watching a few of your videos, I find the idea that the only suggestion they'd take seriously from (in my maybe naive view) a significant KZbinr across all these videos you've posted being the small, 100 m spawn separation map both hilarious and extremely concerning. As a side note, I love when you take the weird, the wild and the unwieldy vehicles this game seems to offer regardless of....points? Tiers? It's really fun to see you legitimately trying to tackle matches with some of histories oddities.
