as a kid i was NOT allowed to have bratz, and if these existed then i wouldn’t have been able to have these. it’s kind of wild to think about but i’m genuinely glad i was shielded from that stuff as a kid. (for some background, im a doll collector) so when i was a kid i had all sorts of dolls and toys, ranging from porcelain babies to thrifted barbie’s. lots of my dolls had private parts but what i find interesting and have noticed is different between like a vintage doll that implies that it has privates (like a faint outline or something, nothing graphic or prominent) and one of these dolls that centers its consumers attention around it. the main thing about dolls like bratz and lol is the over sexualization and beauty standards being pushed so heavily onto young kids. i remember seeing bratz as a kid and thinking “i’ll grow up to look like that” and stuff like that really played into my body issues growing up. it’s the expectation to be “slim-thick” being pushed so heavily, bratz kind of started it, and these dolls are just hammering it in. the first thing i noticed about the lols is the crazy body standards they have for BABIES now, like she said in the video they’re supposed to be toddlers and babies and they have just.. a weird shape. comparing the lols and bratz to the dolls i had, if you looked at them side by side, you’d very much notice the almost “yassification” (for a lack of a better term hah) of the dolls over time, via how they decided to design the faces, clothes, and bodies of these dolls. again, they’re supposed to be so so so young. thinking about it though, bratz we’re supposed to be teens and they looked like 20 year-olds and the lolz are supposed to be babies, kind of act like an adult’s perception of a teen, and look like ridiculous, alien, beauty standards. id argue that lol is way way worse than bratz, but i can definitely see how the bratz design influenced the lol dolls so it’s definitely comparable. (sorry for the rant, i grew up with body and face dysmorphia and dysphoria that started at a very young age so i’m very passionate about this stuff. it’s interesting looking back on things that i experienced as a kid and how they effected that. i’m worried for the generation that’s going to grow up with these dolls because if my barbie dolls partially made me insecure about my body and face, these dolls DEFINITELY will hammer that in) what i wish they had was more representation when it comes to body types. the teeny waist and huge hips will always urk me for this reason. kids don’t need to be focused on “wait.. their body looks like this and mine looks like this so i must be wrong” (that was my thought process as a kid)

For real - it was funny at first (like, as a one-off joke playing into that ‘gross-out’ humour that most kids find funny at younger ages), but it’s gotten to a level that these companies don’t seem to really be doing it as a joke anymore. Also, it’s definitely different that companies are profiting off of this specifically as opposed to it just being a bunch of kids making their own jokes using existing toys. I was lucky enough to miss out on this weird trend (I was already in high school when it started to pick up), but still.

I think it’s because kids at that age tend to make poop and fart jokes (because they’re curious about that stuff during development, from I learned in a child development class), and these companies know this and they know it would sell, but it’s just still heavily creepy, especially putting genitalia on dolls and giving them sexualized outfits.

I feel ashamed because I owned a few when I was like around 9 or 10 and I have to say, I did enjoy them as a child. I mean I thought it was a little silly they literally had to poop slime out but I was a slime-obsessed child at the time and actually enjoyed making the slime... I usually discarded the doll that came with it though. I never thought anything of it, I can see why it's gross but I personally find it funny... like who's idea was this? imagine conjuring up the idea of shitting unicorns for children during a brainstorming session with all your colleagues lmao I will say I am not really defending those toys, I think they're ridiculously odd. I would've been fine if it was like a Baby Alive doll that would pee or poop for reason as they were made to mimic actual babies so the kid playing with them could nurture the toy. No, these toys literally shit for fun which is why I mentioned why it was so funny to me because what the hell??

Tbh, monster high was released when alt fashion was on the rise and the whole satanic panic debacle about alt fashion was going on. Times change and so does what is considered expectable and not.

On one hand, anatomically correct dolls are fine as long as they are stated and aren't the focus of the doll. Likewise, pooping dolls are fine as long as they are presented in an educational manner. Things like toilet training dolls or the Barbie dog uses to teach kids to clean up after their kids. What ISN'T okay is when it's glamorized. Fetish clothing with many straps and patterns directing attention to the groin is not okay. Toys that grunt and wiggle excessively while pooping is not okay. Especially toys that have poop as the play gimmick, like toys that poop slime. Tl;dr toys like these can work if presented in an educational and basic way, but as soon as you put too much emphasis on it, it comes off as creep bait.

While many young children are fascinated with toilet/'gross-out' humor (I certainly was as a kid), I have to agree that the sheer amount of poop-related toys marketed towards children is rather concerning. Especially in the case of the Poopsie unicorns where the 'poop' itself is designed as slime to be played with.
@Szj_artz
@Szj_artz 17 күн бұрын
The reason why children are "fascinated" by being able to use the toilet and things like that; was explained by a psychologist, Freud, who established the psychoanalytic model of the child,where it was specified that during a certain age, the child IS interested in actions such as being able to do their needs, due to their autonomy and the parts of their body they are able to control. But even if that were the case, it shouldn't be an excuse for companies to produce children's toys that involve disgusting themes and concepts.

my take: I definately dont think the company was trying to ''fetishize'' anything.. there is a LOT of toys based around silly things like potty humour basically, which is because specifically kids find this funny. In fact, im not sure about these particular dolls, but lots of dolls are created with the ability to ''pee and poo'' to either encourage toddlers to learn the potty or to put children in the shoes of the mother of the doll because it adds realism to their roleplay and makes imaginary games more fun. I think MGA created the ''my poop'' song based off ''my hump''' as a nod to adults and parents seeing it, like when kids cartoons feature an adult joke to cater to parents which would go straight over a childs head. Anyway, it was a completely different song, just using the same tune .. but i see why it would have been viewed as not appropriate. I think the company just thought it would be funny considering th toys are literally singing, dancing unicorns that poop slime. I dont think most adults would typically think this deeply about a pooping unicorn, never mind a child... A kid would never ever look at a doll of a cartoon baby and think its supposed to be ''sexy'', children just dont think like that. L.O.L dolls are more often than not based around celebrities and fashion, they have taken the concept of putting over the top, decked out styles on chibi baby-like dolls because its supposed to be silly/funny and it strays from the typical more common ideas and themes of dolls of the past. I do understand where you're coming from with the ''langere'' thing reguarding some dolls created by the company, but I think it is reaching to say they have willingly dressed their dolls in outfits that ''an adult would wear to do things with another person'' or ''to engage in s£xual acts'' because people literally just wear things such as fishnets and braletts as every day clothing, and are very much commonly featured in alternative fashion, which is a theme these dolls are aimed to fall under. OF course you wouldn't have a 10 year old wearing these things, but these fashion dolls (nanana surprise for example) dont have any sort of confirmed age, and they are just characters, not people. Additionally, you quoted, ''L.O.L dolls have very very realistic private areas'' which is false, the boy dolls have a 'lump'? which is supposed to loosely resemble a you know what to differentiate them from the girls, and the girl dolls have nothing. I dont think stuff like that should be much of a problem either way, its a part of the human body and does NOT need to be viewed as sexual, especially in this light. Again, kids would never think like that, so i dont think adults should be either.

This!! I remember the boy dolls not having a full thing either! I love L.O.L dolls and i'd still buy them to this day. And I really don't wanna be shamed by someone because I want to buy these dolls with cute outfits. I like the taller teen ones anyways! but anyways, you're absolutely right.

The particular issue I believe is the irresponsibility of this company... You see, teaching children to mimick adults can lead into horrible adultification of kids sometimes, and it is often what creeps do to isolate kids from their peers and get to abuse them and groom them. You make a lil girl think she is "not like other girls, special and mature for her age", making her think she somehow is better than her "childish" peers and isolating her, and making her think she HAS to act in specific manners to perform adult roles, and that is the basic child grooming formula. Creepy older men have used this dirty tactic for ages now to get their hands on children and abuse them, and only recently have parents, specially mothers, been questioning this and pushing against it. The latest trends of dressing kids up with adult clothing and pushing adult products like makeup or clothing considered sexual by societal standards, or pushing adult behavior like alcohol consumption and adult activities like partying or being financially independent too early, are honestly only making matters worse. It might not be the main goal of this company to sexualize kids but them following this trend of toddler girls already seeking out impossible beauty standards for adults and beauty items considered too mature for their age is dangerous cuz it pushes the idea of making yourself desirable to lil girls, just to make a cash grab, and it just makes the lives of pedos easier cuz it already sets in an unhealthy standard for children. Yeah its sad but things like fishnets and heavy makeup should never be given to children the way they are doing, it just adultifies these things and hypersexualizes them, and makes it dangerous for lil kids to have fun trying them out thanks to predators...
@Punkgiana
@Punkgiana 28 күн бұрын
@@missgms7781 I got these when I was younger, and I can confirm I didn't really think about dressing like them, I thought "oh these little babies are in such cute outfits!!" I understand what you mean definitely, about sexualization. Choosing them to be toddlers was also very much a weird choice, the teen ones are at least a little more acceptable. To me it depends solely on the parents, its their job to teach their kids good morals and that they shouldn't be ashamed of who they are. It's also their responsibility to keep kids innocent as long as they can, and not push them to be mature. I wholeheartedly agree that toddlers should not be wearing what stores are selling them to wear, but on dolls I feel like most little girls won't say "I want to be like that" at least from my experience they were just pretty to look at.
@missgms7781
@missgms7781 28 күн бұрын
@Punkgiana It depends a lot but the same way a parent can buy this toy to a kid but never let them feel like they will only be accepted and loved if they do adult things, a creep can gift this to a child and use it as a manipulation tactic. Overall, most lil girls out there arent even very safe for starters and dont have very stellar parents or family at home, and its too easy for creeps to try and take advantage of existing problems for their own gain, thats why a company selling this to lil kids is irresponsible in my eyes. It does only make matters worse and create a peer pressure since all kids wanna be the cool one with the trendiest stuff. Rarely are there households where parents teach their kids not to fall for trends and these trends open doors to unhealthy tendencies...
@Punkgiana
@Punkgiana 28 күн бұрын
@@missgms7781 I very much agree, its irresponsible of them to especially aim it towards young spawns, i feel like the teen ones should've been basically the whole brand, because with the teens you can target it towards older kids who at least have a slight understanding, their own morals or at least their own opinions. In no way do I want to defend the creepiness of the company. But again.. creeps would be everywhere regardless of this company existing, but it IS another tool they could use to indoctrinate

YES! THANK YOU!!! I was one of the ones that always got the ick from these dolls and I wasn't sure if it was because of my distaste of baby dolls or if they were actually sexual. Like every reviewer that I saw was chill with them and I thought it was just me!!! Like there are earlier baby dolls that also pee, poop, and cry, but they're all advertised to be played with in a "take care of the baby" sort of way. These aren't, and combined with the more adult clothing and the boy dolls especially having detailed junk it just feels all kinds of gross and predatory.

I would like to speak up about my experience and content (toys and media) that are centered around bathroom going like peeing and pooping. Im not going to go into the nitty gritty details but seeing an influx of bathroom going toys worry me because I remember seeing a bunch of toys like this. And its not the general potty training help toys that are used to help introducing children to potty training, no, its toys that are completely centered around bathroom going in itself. I didn't think it was worrying at the time and it eventually developed into an obsession and into 'interests' I am not proud of having. Not only does it feel like hidden f/tish material, it also causes harm sometimes. It may just be a me problem but I had interacted with the lol dolls in particular when I was younger solely because it could use the bathroom and it just feels icky thinking about my current issues and that interaction now. I am disabled so I am sorry if I am not making sense.

Bratz team changed their marketing demographic for adults and canonically say the dolls aged up to be in their 20s. @aporue5893 I love MGA designs, I just wish companies were honest about what designs their dolls have, at least in writing. I'm not opposed to "anatomically correct" dolls, but the line is drawn when those parts are highlighted by the clothing designs as the selling part. It's weird.

I definately dont think the company was trying to ''fetishize'' anything.. there is a LOT of toys based around silly things like potty humour basically, which is because specifically kids find this funny. In fact, im not sure about these particular dolls, but lots of dolls are created with the ability to ''pee and poo'' to either encourage toddlers to learn the potty or to put children in the shoes of the mother of the doll because it adds realism to their roleplay and makes imaginary games more fun.

Nice to see videos about these blow up outside of the doll community, thanks for making it :) The only problem I had were random cuts or unnecessarily censoring words so often - I'm not sure if it's only me but it made your video less smooth and harder to understand

Thank you for mentioning this!! The amount of kids toys that are sexualised or centered around the poop thing is actually getting concerning and feels really perverted. I get that some kids like gross stuff cos "haha poop funny" but this is excessive and feels like a badly disgusted fetish

You can talk about "fetish" from an adult/mature point of view, but, like, a child doesn't know, neither cares about that. Of course, I agree when it comes to the sexualization of some dolls cause it's not something a kid should be exposed to, but you criticize from your ADULT thinking something that for a kid is just "haha unicorn poop". It's not that serious and as long as they get to play with other toys than just these kind, there's literally no problem (sorry if my english is bad btw correct me if I wrote anything wrong).

Yeah the whole problem shes explaining is how these were weird in itself. It relies on shit humour, and oversuxualization. These are things kids would look past, and possibly deem as just normal. Now growing up you realise how weird these toys are in general. Plus the fact that these all came from the same company, and it all revolves around sexual clothing and shit. It really does put up some red flags. Even as a kid I found these toys really weird. Like ofcourse a fart joke is funny if its good but these were just...idk fuckin off putting.

@@leechion2933 Let the sexualization aside, I agree with what the video says about that and I am not seeking to defend the company. You're overthinking about the meaning of a toy which only function is to shit shiny slime. I can agree with you in my personal experience, I didn't like these kind of things when I was a kid either. But now, even if I still love barbies and princess-like dolls, I think it's nice to have toys that depicts a REAL body characteristic and normalizes it as it should be. Btw I'm only talking about the toy itself and not the promotion video or anything else the company did.

I don’t really think they’re too bad. I also found them cool when they first came out but too expensive to get them. In the grand scheme of things I doubt any kids felt that these were weird. My parents also thought that monster high and bratz were way too sexual but as a kid I just played with my dolls and made different scenarios etc. without even considering that kind of stuff. I feel like it’s the same with these ones.

I don't think they're trying to call you a creep for liking these dolls or finding them cute. Because that's all you saw them as, right? You didn't see them pooping and think really weird ahh stuff that some people probably do for some reason. I guess it's also the fact that you saw them normal as you were probably a kid too, I personally saw those dolls as weird when I was younger for some reason The weird thing is that I suppose kids toys don't really need to be wearing and specific clothing that is really just out there for the age of the dolls. Like a toddler toy, as she said doesn't need to have any specific clothes or pants

I remember being younger and getting one of those boy lol dolls for my birthday, I was so excited because I loved the toys only to when opening it find that the toy was...anatomically correct to say the least. My parents were also pretty concerned but tried to play it off, and when I was older trying to explain to people why those toys made me feel so uncomfortable I was always met with people saying something along the lines of "Its not inappropriate, its a part of life and its normal", so I was really happy to see you touch on that part because while yes topics and discussions about education of that sort of stuff is really important its not something for a toy targeted towards that young of a demographic and its really not that needed...
