Love my 2021 V8 Tundra. My brother is a Toyota mechanic.... the issues with the newer twin turbo V-6 are a BIG issue. He took me around the shop on Saturday to show me a couple of 2022's that are in for major work (turbos and engine problems). Having to remove the cab for a turbo replacement (passenger side I believe) and an engine swap is tragic. If that was my brand new truck sitting there completely taken apart.... I'd be so pissed!

I was looking for reliability we do lots of traveling. Its been great and does not hunt for gears up and down the Smoky's. I was pleasantly surprised at how good that 6 speed does up there. Wow. Nailed it Mark!! Keeping my ‘21 TRD Pro Lunar Rock CM for a very long time (especially since I haven’t even hit 15,000 miles on it yet!) I was on a 3 month waiting list to get the truck and I was so lucky that color fell to me because it was the last Pro my dealership was getting back in Aug of ‘21. My truck had zero adds (zero not even the spray on bed liner as the factory was quickly ending the run of that generation) and was $55k and sold to me at MSRP. I owned 4 Tundras prior to my ‘21 and bye far it is superior in every way… I wonder if there is anyway to get the total number of Lunar Rock Tundras produced in ‘21 as I guarantee that number is very small (maybe 3500 total?) The AG and LR Pros from ‘20-‘21 are absolutely going to be the sweet spot in the Tundra history books! Thanks for all you do….

2008-2018 for me. 2018 is my favorite year with a 6.5 bed. I hate push button start, apple car play, dual climate and no transmission cooler. I’m old school and don’t like all this fancy crap. Safety sense is whatever but it has the new style dash gauges so that’s why it’s my favorite. Screw the stereo, I just love listening to that beautiful 5.7 all day.

You right I own 2020 . I hate the fact Toyota goes to v6. My dealer has text, mail and many thousands of cash gift just to trade my truck I told them hell no. There is no way I would trade my v8 for V6. Toyota want V6 then sell it to your workers or engineers. Why can’t Toyota have 2engine options?
@johnwrclinton
@johnwrclinton 5 ай бұрын
Just bought a 2021 Tundra, for the key reason you cite: naturally-aspirated V8 engine, for the durability and longevity vs. the V6 / twin turbos. And the '21 was the ultimate, all-the-bugs-worked-out-of-it V8 model, with the lowest miles I could find. I want this baby to LAST. I still find it strange that somehow people *expect* such "creature comforts" as heated steering wheels, navigation systems, etc. etc.

It also has the upgraded JBL sound that I wanted, and leather, plus the HID headlights finally. Yeah. Putting a turbo on one side of a small engine with a loaded down truck on the other side is making that little thing work way too hard. In a sports car, it's OK because there's not much load. In a diesel, the engine is gigantic and built for pressure. I'm afraid we've entered a dark age for new pickups with these little engines with big turbos.

I have a 21 Tundra and since I do not care about lifting the truck and I care more about the safety features, I personally prefer the 2020 - 2021 year models over the previous ones. In addition, push button is a must for my wife and the lack of the push button was the main reason why we did not buy the Tundra back in 2016 when we were in the market for a full-size pickup. I also agree that the transmission shifting and engine response is much better in my truck than the previous ones we test drove. BTW, the lack of a transmission cooler is a sad departure, especially for a truck that has a towing package. However, I will install one after the truck passes the 60k miles mark, hence I am out of the powertrain warranty and then I will have a piece of mind that my truck has the cooler and I will put a better radiator anyways than the original one. All other parts are OEM, the cooler/radiator is a very beefy one (forgot the brand name).

Biggest problem was secondary evap pump which cost me $2k. Seems this was a recall and covered for 10 years and/or 100,000 miles which I just missed. Fellow at dealership says he has never seen 2007 that evap pump hasn’t gone bad. My only issue is radio and cd player are shot, so that will be about $800.00+ to get it replaced with modern setup. Overall it has been a terrific vehicle. I would like a 2020 with upgrades.

I have a 2021 tundra TRD pro, I wish it come with blind spot sensor and parking sensor assist. I also wish it have storages. An Toyota should have put a 10 speed transmission in it. But I do love my V8 and TRD exhaust system. I did some mods but nothing permanent. Wish I can still find Toyota add on accessories from the dealership but it’s getting hard to find. All the mods I don’t so far, I believe it should have come the dealership as a Standard equipment. Especially when you have the TRD PRO model. Look to add 4 more mods and will consider the truck complete. All the mods will be OEM except one accessories. I can’t find an OEM storage

I 100% agree that the 2020 & 2021 are the best tundras ever made. My 2021 TRD Pro is a keeper….not a fan of the newer ones and I have no use for the turbo charged 6 banger. Honestly I wouldn’t trade my current Tundra for a new even up…

I’m a wee bit confused. You seem to indicate you believe the 2020-21 the best Tundra year(s), but you also have created another video where you note the 07-13 Gen 2 Tundras were/are the best? I am in the market for my first Tundra, will likely buy used. The Tundra will likely be my daily driver, as I will be retiring in the next couple of years and the truck will be used for occasional light (under 5k) long distance towing, no off-roading, pe se, except to get to my fishing, hunting, mountain biking, skiing, and camping (small travel trailer) spots. videos are super helpful. Reliability is huge to me, and comfort, too. Any suggestions and tips are appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Mark. I've been absent for the past few months due to finally getting the back surgery I'd been waiting almost two years for. As fate would have it, this was the first video that I ended up watching as my curiosity got the best of me! I'm starting to really dislike your channel as every time that I contemplate selling my '21 TRD Sport Premium CM, you go and make a video like this! 🤣 Love the video and I couldn't agree more with your personal opinion. I purposely waited for the final MY with the V8 before finally making a purchase. Like many, I didn't foresee the demand and shortage for the '21 MY and I almost lost out because of it! It was only due to a last minute cancellation that I was able to purchase the exact year, model and color that I initially wanted to preorder. I cancelled the preorder that I had placed for a '22 Limited Off-Road in Lunar Rock and I've been living on cloud nine ever since! Once again your video has managed to convince me to keep my Tundra! I'm now going to have my new tires mounted on my new wheels this week and install them on my truck! Thanks again, Mark! 🤣😂🙏👍

I do agree with the 20,21 years being the greatest but I do prefer a key to a button and my 08 tundra grade I’ve had since new is just so simple and so powerful and in 145 thousand miles nothing has broke. Also it was during the recession when I bought it and they threw in free oil changes for life so I will keep it for the rest of my life.

Im still baffled by the prediction of unreliability by so many regarding 4 and 6 cylinder turbo motors. Like turbo charging is new and unproven. The new platform is worldwide, and Toyota has so much at stake. I can not imagine that the testing of this was not very extensive. I guess time will tell, I love mine, and I think these new trucks will be great. How people "know" these motors are "junk" based on it being turbo and / or a V6. I'll enjoy seeing them go to 250k, 300k and be what Toyota always is, excellent.

You must live under a rock because it's been well documented that these new V6 turbos have been suffering catastrophic failures. Same thing with the turbo 4's in the Tacoma's. And turbo charging has been around for decades, so you just plain and simple are ignorant

Agreed on the 2020 2021 is the one. I tell anyone that asks me about my 2017, I tell them if I had it all to do again, or if I was looking to buy a Tundra it would be those years. Like you said cluster dash update, LED lights, shark fin. They did it all to those years, except in my opinion they could have changed the tranny to 8 or 10 speed and revamped the computer for that better gas mileage!!! Love that lunar rock color!!!
