I just found your channel and LOVE it! Don't give up on the Suburban- I'll watch till the end. I have a similar project with a 2004 Land Rover Discovery- I LOVE the truck- but the engine is a POS- I've rebuilt it twice now and still have leaks, the current one a big one up front that I have to get squared away- my next round with it is definately an LS swap- which is how I found your channel. That big ol square body Suburban is the shit- keep after it. Definitely move you're way down the driveline- I think it's going to end up being your transfer case (all along) but now you can whip out a 4l80 in no time! Good experiences for sure- as frustrating as they are.

This hits close to home lol. My Dad bought an 1984 Silverado in the mid 90s, had a cracked block where starter bolts in. He never was able to get it running right. After he dies I do a frame off restoration, replace the motor, truck is GORGEOUS. On the second ride after restoring it the damn transmission went out....won't shift out of first...smh...truck just wants to be pretty I swear. It's plagued my Family for the past 30 years ahaha

@@JovaniDanteGriego we will get it figured out. My uncle owned a transmission shop, I asked him if he thought I could rebuild a 700r4 transmission, I'm mechanically inclined but never built a transmission. He said there's 2 types of people that build trans, Professionals or fools...and as long as I'm one of those I could probably do it 😆 how hard do you feel they are to rebuild?
@JovaniDanteGriego8 ай бұрын
I haven't done 700/4l60e yet. I've heard they are a little bit harder because you need some long snap ring pliers. But overall I think the biggest thing for me is making sure I remember how everything went. Forgetting a little plastic bushing after you assembled the trans sucks lol

If it was my truck, I’d put it off to the side for now. That would give you time to work on other projects. Then after some time, go back and take a hard look at the Suburban. Ask yourself, do I want to fix it or just get rid of it. Always looking at something later will help you decide what to do with it. I hope that this helps you decide what you’re going to do with the truck. I’ll be waiting for more videos so keep at it.

I just went from a 700r4 to a nv4500 in my 89 burb, just a FYI if that truck was a sm465/np208 combo a gm nv4500 is a direct bolt in, the only thing that needs to change is the hole in the floor, the nv4500 is much stronger then the 80e and you retain the granny low while getting overdrive(if it's a early nv4500)

Better check those diffs while your at it, bearings can be checked too sir! Sir! Get all fluids changed when you buy used vehicles. Love your show.❤
@JovaniDanteGriego10 ай бұрын
Yup! I already did u joints, still have to find a longer front driveshaft for it too. I'll probably pop the covers off the diffs to inspect them then change fluids!

What were you using to tune the 4L80E, did you have a stand alone controller? I put a US Shift controller in Subzila (1986 K20 Suburban) and it works great, just had to go back and adjust it now that I put in Pro-Flo EFI. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIXInnaPo7iEnKs
