What people don’t understand is that there is no “trying to not be gay”. We can’t cleanse ourselves from our own sin, only Jesus can do that. He makes us holy through our own sanctification process. As we follow and obey Him, He alone cleanses us from our iniquity. It’s never been something we could do in our own strength. If it was, Jesus would have never had to have been sacrificed for our sins.

I kind of see your point but I think you’re mixing it up a little bit. It sounds like the way you presented it that because we have all fallen short of the glory of God - Romans 3:23 - that sin is an involuntary choice because of who we are. We cannot follow God’s Law perfectly, but we are to do our best and when we mess up, Jesus is our Savior and we can repent and ask for forgiveness. Jesus says “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” John 14:15. For some, when they get close to God and actively pursue Him and read His Word, they are transforming their minds and are willing to resist temptation even though it’s hard and to trust in God to help them resist temptation. Something that’s very important to remember is that we cannot allow our emotions to dictate our actions when not coming from Godly reasons. Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” We cannot always trust our emotions to be coming from a good reason. Even when tempted, we can rationalize, know that God says not to do what we are tempted to do, know it’s for our good, and despite resisting our flesh, overcome temptation by holding to the Word of God.

I'm so tired of people using the falling in love argument like its some passive action. It's very much a decision. You don't love someone without choosing to spend time with them, share intimate details of your life, exchange gifts and physical touch, do stuff for one another. All those decisions build love. This ain't Greek mythology where Eros shoots his arrow and sparks nonvoluntary love. YOU made a choice. Own your choices!
@dalpaengi Жыл бұрын
Same. You can give life to feelings of lust with your actions. Same as infatuation. And you can choose to not act on those feelings and direct your attention elsewhere. The Lord gives us the strength to. It’s all because of Him. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says so. Might be painful but such is life. We are not promised an easy road. I myself might have to walk this earth without a spouse and if that’s God’s will then I accept it. 1 Corinthians 10:12 reminds me that my own attempts to be upright and moral are nothing to be proud of. I can’t pridefully trust in my own sense of being in good spiritual standing with God. I’ll risk falling flat. Besides, one can be married or in a relationship and still experience loneliness. That is a common human experience. The Lord does sometimes provide us with companionship, both romantically and through incredible friendships. We aren’t necessarily entitled to it. It’s a blessing and privilege. Ultimately only Jesus can satisfy the deepest depths of emptiness and loneliness in the human heart. Humans can and will fail us. But the Lord will not. We need to seek Him first…

Love and desire are two very separate things. We have all sinned and we are all lost but when you choose to have an immoral sexual relationship with someone, you are telling God, if you believe, that i agree with following Your Word except for this thing here. Yep. God, You are great but You are wrong about gayness/fornication/x sexual sin and i am right. Therefore, God accepts me because i outargued the Almighty. I really do feel for those with gay attraction, it must be awful to feel you can't do anything about who you are attracted to. But it's no more difficult than me struggling to not lust after women that i am not married to. Ultimately, it all turns into a blame game on God. I have been there before too. Well, God, you made me a sexual creature, therefore, i am just acting like you designed if i watch porn. We are all damned and all savable but only through true repentance.
@Confusianity9 ай бұрын
I assume you're straight. I am as well. But have you ever thought about it like this? Imagine there's an ancient text that many people believe in, and in that text it says that God says that it's immoral for you (as a woman) to have sex with a man. But... you KNOW that you're straight. So what do you do then? Do you adhere to this ancient text and go celibate the rest of your life (basically becoming an asexual person, since you're not "allowed" to have sex with the opposite sex even though you're attracted to them)? I look at this as an exercise in empathy. Do I know what it feels like to be attracted to the same sex? No. All I know is that I am a man who's attracted to women. But what if an ancient text stated that I *had* to be attracted to men? I couldn't do it. I couldn't make myself be attracted to men, even if it was commanded. I reckon this is how it would be for gay men and gay women.
@l.v1843Ай бұрын
no, i'm straight and spending time with a man couldn't make me love them or having the desire to touch their hand, a gay guy if does THE SAME could fall in love and have that desire to touch their hand bc he didn't chose to BE that way, are you saying YOU doing that would make you fall in love with a dude? then i have something to tell you 😂
@dahliaherrod4301Ай бұрын
@@l.v1843 OK I have no idea how you came to that conclusion from my comment. I'm talking about people forming romantic relationships over time through intention. This has nothing to do with sexuality. When you intentionally spend time with a person for whom you have attraction, a bond grows and develops. It didn't just happen. You worked at it. This is the case for any romantic relationship-gay or straight, all over the world.

My testimony: After being an atheist for 8+ years, and "married" to another female, I got the urge one day to say out loud "IF there is an Almighty God that does NOT wish us pain or sorrow, please bring me truth, I wish to know you exist". Then God immediately started bringing me the answers I had been searching 8-11 YEARS for! I witnessed Him take control of my internet and the rest of my reality; He first proved to me that demons exist (I called them "inter-dimensional beings"), then He proved His own existence, which I later found to be Jesus Christ. As soon as I found Jesus at the end of 2020, He IMMEDIATELY took away my transgenderism, bisexuality, depression, daily suicide attempts, self harm, bulimia and anorexia; and He did this all without me asking Him to, because THAT'S how merciful and loving He is! Had to pause it halfway through. Aside from the bad theology, when Jake says "I cannot help who I fall in love with", he demonstrates he does not understand love. He is describing lust, not love. You actively choose to love someone. If you listen to him, you hear "I think ... I want ... I ... I .... I." He has created his own Hell because he has failed to realize that a relationship with God is not about "me, me, me", but rather about God.
@shushanthswinderballs1122 Жыл бұрын
This is true, but I understand what Jake is saying only because most Christians I feel like start out where he is at rn. If I had to guess, he probably became a Christian within the last few years and never really read the Bible and is moreso just looking to feel something. The problem when you do that is you don’t understand god’s word and you just end up using god to rationalize what you think is right. I used to have that philosophy, and I know most new Christians start out like this too. It’s only once we read and actually understand the Bible we realize our thoughts are not god’s thoughts. I hope and believe Jake gets there too one day.

One of the big arguments I see a lot of gay "Christians" use is that they just love who they love, and that they can't change that, and that they feel so lonely and broken if they can't have fulfilling romantic relationships like others do. But the big issue here is that they're completely missing the problem with that statement/desire. It's putting your own desire and wants before God, and the assumption that everyone in life is supposed to be guaranteed a fulfilling romantic relationship, when in reality nowhere in the bible does it state that Christians are supposed to hold romantic relationships, or even marriage, on such a guaranteed pedestal as one of the greatest goods humanity can achieve. The greatest good is Christ, and when we have Him, we have everything and all we need. That means, all your earthly desires, including romantic relationships and marriage, should be placed at Jesus feet. Even heterosexual believers should lay everything down, they are not guaranteed a happy marriage or anything like that either. It is a more beautiful thing to see when believers are able to sacrifice all these things, for the sake of having Christ. Believers today need to understand that we idolize a lot of things before God, even though we may state otherwise with our lips and in our worship. Whether that be our family, our relationships, our health, desire to choose what we want to do with our lives, etc. Until we know how to fully surrender, we'll continue to struggle.

I guess what I am saying is he didn't seem as knowledgeable as he should be for one in the position of Pastor.

I was in a homosexual life style before confessing Christ as my Lord and Savior . I grew up Catholic, not consistently practicing, I never knew the difference between God the Father, God the Son, or God the Holy Spirit and didn’t care about Jesus or God really me entire life . I believed in God but not the one true God and I had not priority or importance for Him . I was never promiscuous in my life and was more of a hopeless romantic . As long as 12 years old I fell in love with my long time ex girlfriend and always told myself that being gay isn’t bad it is just love , I also was not concerned with God and what being gay to Him meant . My girlfriend at that time believed she was born gay and that God made her that way and she hated God . I was never satisfied always felt unhappy as if I was missing something my entire life and all I wanted was love . Fast forward to 2019 God called me that year January specifically to come back home to Him . I was not searching or looking for God or Jesus at all and from January 1st 2019 till presently I have never looked back at my old life . Jesus Christ was what was missing . The more I got to know Christ the more I understood why being gay isn’t apart of His plan for myself . Praise you Lord Jesus for opening my eyes . I love Jesus Christ so much and I understand what that woman felt in that moment when she was talking to that brother in Christ about him searching for Christ . She isn’t wrong because I was there but my flesh made me live in denial for majority of my life and I could see Jesus behind her with His heart being broken for that Catholic brother .

This is such an important conversation that we need to be having. As believers we need to stand on Gods Word as the final authority on Gods standard for our lives. However we need to be willing to allow the Spirit to help us show Gods grace, love AND truth to people in the lgbtq+ community. The Bible says that Jesus was full of grace AND truth. He wasn’t one and not the other. He wasn’t half grace and half truth. He was FULLY one while FULLY the other. We can show them kindness and love while still not compromising the truth of Gods Word. But it has to be done by His Spirit working in us or it will profit nothing. I came from this community when I first got saved 22 years ago and I know that through Christ, all things are possible.

It’s interesting. The Christians tell folks what _scripture says_ and the reply is always, “So do _you_ think I’m going to hell?” My guy, the word of God is saying “pick up your cross.” Not me. I’d rather leave the thing at home. Safe and secure in the corner of a broom closest. I can’t though. No matter how badly I want what _I_ want. No matter how much I crave being comfortable above most anything else. I pick up that old thing, ask God for the grace to carry it, and to carry it in a way that honors Him. The heart wants what it wants, but the word of God tells us that the heart is wicked and deceitful above all things. So, “lean not on your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge HIM, and he will make all of your paths straight.” Heh. Straight. Interesting choice of words. I’m rambling now, pardon me, I’ll sum up. Whatever sin you are dealing with, understand that it isn’t supposed to be easy to give up. Short of the Holy Spirit doing a miraculous work (…and He most certainly can) _in_ you. Your heart needs time to be refined into something at _least_ resembling The Father’s. Don’t become a slave to Comfort. It’s a terrible master. It’ll have you wallowing in pig filth, but so long as it’s _your_ pig filth, wallow you will. Fight it. Fight it hard. You won’t want to, or maybe your heart isn’t so calloused over yet that you will, know this though: Victory can ONLY be found in The Lord. I digress, back to the video to wrap up: Even _IF_ you _were_ born this way, those impulses that drive you, at least those that run contrary to the will of God (which He conveniently had written down for us at a 5th grade reading level) must be CRUCIFIED TO THE CROSS. Every moment, of every day. Then, we carry that thing, until we learn to take the yoke of Jesus in its place which is “easy, and light” by comparison. Time, and faith that our savior will keep his word are all that it takes. That, and a little bit of gumption. Okay, I need coffee. _Edited for spelling_

I’d like to add, after a moment of - let’s call it clarity, that “wanting to leave my cross behind” is not a healthy attitude. Well, not a _mature_ one at any rate. I ought be further along in my growth than that. Don’t settle for begrudging, obligatory service. You’d hate receiving that sort of “love” from your spouse. If that’s all that you know to give (of) yourself, then I promise it will only lead to resentment on either end. While our Father has far more grace than even the most gracious of marital partners, why take it for granted? It cheapens the very thing that ought to be _priceless_ to us. We love Him *because* He FIRST loved us. He demonstrated that love in that “while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Because he carried his cross, we absolutely _can_ carry ours. Doing so should be an act of thanksgiving! Bleh…once again I digress. I hope I grow to a point where service (especially when done for those I claim to love and honor), of any kind, is done out of love - rather than obligation. If for no other reason than to show my gratitude to a good, and (at the risk of sounding redundant) _gracious_ God, and to those He’s entrusted me with. _Edited for spelling_ Edited again to add: I _hate_ washing dishes. I *love* my wife. I will wash dishes until I no longer view it as a chore, but an _opportunity_ to express my devotion to, and adoration of, her. I will carry my cross until the Lord has decided it’s my time to put it down again. Until then…until it is no longer a chore… Lord help me.

Everyone has free will. Since God is life, He will never go against his nature and his word. Therefore since God created marriage between man and woman, anything outside of that is not of God because at the end of it all, He called it good.

One thing thats important to remember is to use the word…use the word. Because how can someone say they love Jesus then argue against His word? Using testimonies is a good method but I think the most effective is the word. Jesus said “if you love me you will keep my commandments”. This same Jesus said “I and the Father are one”. Therefore keeping Jesus’s commands means to keep the commands of the Father. The Father is not “the God of the Old Testament”, He is God. Period. The Father, the Son and The Spirit are one and that’s established in the book of genesis. The thing I am noticing is that we don’t really believe in the power of Christ. And I know that because so often we make excuses for why we don’t give up certain things but fail to realize that the Jesus is powerful enough to deliver us from the sins that feel impossible to let go of. I pray for our deliverance in whatever areas we aren’t trusting Christ in
@KytiaLamour Жыл бұрын
In our two and a half hour conversation, we definitely brought up the Word of God several times, but it was almost always dismissed. Each person in the group who didn’t live a Christian life ignored the scriptures we brought up or simply said “that’s not what it means”. So, yes, people argue against the Word all the time unfortunately because it’s not important to them. 🙏🏽

Why would we throw it out? Why challenge its meaning when its simple? Why should we question God when we should be questioning ourselves? 😔 The Lord loves me enough to save me from myself. All he wants is our praise. And we should want to serve, obey, and praise ❤ Life is not always easy, but he gives us the strength

Love is willing the good of the other. That's a Catholic, Thomas Aquinas teaching btw. There are also different kinds of love in the Greek language (One of the original languages the Bible was written in.) Biblically speaking, the one that we often refer to when thinking of Christ's sacrifice is "agape" love, often translated to "charity" in English. There is also eros (sexual passion) and philia or affection/friendship.

It's any sin not just homosexuality this just happens to be the topic, Jesus died for our sins so we might have a chance to live he paid it all and because of that GOD shows grace and mercy on us. however, just because Jesus took that sin for us does not mean that's a pass to continue to be disobedient. that includes me too, I really be out here messing up but I am not delusional to think that I can keep living in sin and get away with it.
