It seems like the year 2012 was maybe one of the lower points for Hallmark Christmas Movies, as we look at Love at the Thanksgiving Day Parade. Depsite the efforts of Autumn Reeser and Antonio Cupo, I found this script as basic and formulaic as they come. Let's look at the full movie and break down every cringe inducing moment. Fr we know nothing about Gretchen really and we're supposed to love the protagonist because she can't stop buying old clothes, loves bookstores too much, and can convince a parade organizer that money doesn't matter. Gretchen might be likable in more organic and impactful ways but we never get to see any side of her really

I love how these movies version of a bad boy is a wealthy, eligible bachelor with minor commitment issues. Meanwhile, a bad boy around my way is a guy with 3 babymoms, great sex but no work ethic who always wants to borrow your car while you're at work and acts like cheating is a normal relationship obstacle to overcome. Let's break that down. 🤣🤣

YEAH WHERE THE REAL HOLIDAY ROMANCE MOVIES AT HALLMARK, HUH?! Where a kid wants a pitbull puppy for Christmas and mom tries to work 2 fast food jobs to afford one but can't until she "reluctantly" falls in love with a reformed gang member whose past scares people away except her when she sees him trying to pay off people's Christmas layaways. No, I haven't thought about this nor do I have a script ready.

I once went on a date with a guy around the time of March Madness. I had painted my nails the colors of my school and even painted on a semi-decent rendering of our logo. He noticed and asked about them, and I got excited talking about doing the logo freehand, because I'm pretty terrible at art in general. He laughed and said, "Aw, it's cute to find out you're shallow, too." I was just like, "EXCUSE ME? Shallow? Because I painted my nails?" He kinda tried to walk it back, like, "Oh, I meant because you're a scientist and generally all serious," but he never apologized and then acted like I was crazy for getting offended at being called "shallow." Douchebag didn't get another date.

“If he hasn’t married you in five years he’s not going to,” I always think things like this are such a weird thing to say. Like I know in the context of this movie he is meant to be correct but like there’s a reason people have been pushing back marriage and having children, if they plan to do it at all. Love isn’t going to pay the _(average in my area, trust me I just got married)_ ~30k debt of having a wedding, love isn’t gonna make housing affordable, love isn’t gonna pay the hospital bill for giving birth, love isn’t insurance against your kid getting a broken arm.

Right? I think about people I know who can't get married because their combined finances would lose their disability/push them into an income bracket where they're too rich to get help but too poor to actually do anything...and then I look at the people I know who get married because they think getting married will fix their relationship issues...
@clownfromclowntown
@clownfromclowntown 2 жыл бұрын
I do agree with all that, but on a separate note a wedding doesn’t HAVE to be 30k. If two people who are genuinely in love really want to get married all it takes is an officiator, a backyard, and a few days of cooking.

When I tell you this is my grandmother's absolute FAVORITE movie. I have been forced to watch this innumerable times. She watches this movie at least twice a day. She gets mad at any criticism I make, any flaws I point out, and doesnt understand how I can possibly find such a rOmAnTiC movie to be so fucking cringe. So, when I was a teenager, I was very emotionally repressed. Dated a guy for a while that I had no chemistry with and he was kind of rude to me, etc. He gave me a CD by the band Modest Mouse and there was one beautifully mournful song ("Little Motel") that I kept listening to. Over and over again on repeat. I told my boyfriend how much I liked that one particular song. Some months later, I finally broke up with him. It wasn't until afterward that I looked up the lyrics of the song and fully understood that it was about a relationship that had outlived its time but was dragging on. Sometimes our subconscious really does put the pieces of the puzzle together before our conscious mind does. And it results in telling your boyfriend that you really love the break up song on the album he gave you. Or dressing in mourning for your engagement. It is her literal Freudian slip.

tearing down buildings to put something new in that space is almost never the most profitable way to deal with a building, unless the building is super specialized and can't be renovated to be anything else or the building is in such a steep state of disrepair that it's too dangerous for people to be in. that book store was neither. mr. "I like to waste money while whining about budgets because secretly I just get off to making the poors suffer" is really freaking bad with money.

The weirdest thing about Nutty Movie Night (besides the fact that it's something a grown adult human supposedly talks about to a stranger) is the fact that the protagonist actively chooses to buy jars of peanut butter for that purpose. I'm sorry but I've only ever eaten peanut butter out of a jar when there happened to be peanut butter in the house and absolutely nothing else. It's such a boring snack to choose to eat! I love peanut butter pretzel nuggets because it's peanut butter with a bit of extra saltiness and a helluva lot of crunch. Plain peanut butter has no texture, especially the ever-popular creamy variety. It just serves to further de-age a character who already has the temperament of a spoiled 12-year-old IMO. Btw, I'm not judging anyone who would eat peanut butter out of a jar willingly. This is in critique of a fictional character who never needed this extra weird quirk. Please do whatever makes you happy!
