I couldn't help but think they made them look like black people as well when I first saw Terra Formars. I hope that is not the case and was actually starting to think I was being a bit racist for thinking that, but after watching this video, some things about the design of the Mars cockroaches seemed odd to me. Like, why did they give them a hair style very commonly seen on black people? Then, roaches are not really that dark in color. They are more like a rust brown color, but they are much darker here. Lastly, the facial structure looked too human. So instead of a tall, hair-less, two-legged rust-colored bug with mandibles, they have a design that looks more like a stereotype of people from Africa with antennas on their heads.

The cockroaches are modeled after Homo erectus, and in the cartoon they are not even wrapped in chains. The ropes that some cockroaches wrap around their arms are ropes, not metal. It is a kind of amulet for Muay Thai athletes. Isn't it more racist to compare a black man to a cockroach in the first place?
