This was a fantastical and intriguing story. I never could have imagined a story like this working, but here we are. The Shape of Water was engaging and likely has more depth than I could grasp on my first viewing. I hope you enjoyed my The Shape of Water movie reaction & commentary

I think she is also a water being. She was found by a river and has had the marks on her neck since she was a child. I think they were always meant to be gills but she was raised on land. I see this as a romance where two like creatures find each other in the unlikeliest of circumstances. It’s a fairytale.

It's funny apparently the bathroom water scene was inspired by something Del Toro actually did as a child, he said he wanted to fill his shower up all the way and used towels, his parents were so mad 😂

I'm POSITIVE you weren't intending to be offensive, but I always liked the little detail that the fish-man doesn't heal Eliza's voice... because it's not an injury, there's nothing 'wrong' with it, it's just who she is. There's nothing TO heal.

"Maybe you're the monster." Oh Chris, you had no idea how right you were with that comment. I love this hybrid sci-fi, fantasy, espionage thriller and love story. A combination of The Creature from the Black Lagoon and a reverse of The Little Mermaid. Ariel couldn't speak on dry land also. I agree whole heartedly, a beautiful film.

"Water finds its shape" i.e. if you pour water into any vessel, or if rain pours into a crevice, it will fit into that area perfectly. I love this movie so much, and I'm so happy you did as well!

I saw this a month ago and my take was that she was like him (a mermaid) but because she was out of the water (sent away? accidentally?) she was a human, which for me made their romance alright.

The set for the black and white dance number is a recreation of the set for the "Face the Music and Dance" number from the Astaire and Rogers movie Follow the Fleet.

I love this movie so much. I wondered for awhile if the creature turned out to be the character from “Hellboy”, Abe Sapien. Not sure, though. You should watch/react to “Hellboy” if you haven’t already! Have a great weekend!

This was Guillermo Del Toro's take on The Creature from the Black Lagoon. A more modern sfx version of the Gillman rubber suit. I thought he did that movie justice.

thought this film was really good Doug jones (aquatic man) did a cameo at my wedding :) he's done a lot of tall characters and yes Strickland is the monster
