I honestly think it is a popular take. Not a majority take, maybe, but popular amongst people who follow the law of parsimony. Simply put: Entities should not be multiplied beyond necessity. To be fair, maybe three timelines are necessary. But the idea of the player simply partaking in the reimaging of a story is a lovely notion. It reminds me of the 2003 game, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. The game over interrupted by the narrator, "No, no. That's not what happened!"

I'm thankful poo has been spamming uploading this game recently. It got my attention and then it made me want to get it straight away after he mentioned a potential DMCA. Googled the name, went straight to Reddit, clicked on the discord server, got the zip file from the download page and was playing in less than 5 mins with my Playstation controller linked via Bluetooth

You probably figured this out already, but no items despawn. You can carry most rewards that drop to a central point and determine from there what you want your load out to be, depending on your play style

There's die hard rogue fans, grognards who argue these semantics, who would argue that because you know what rods, food , and other items do upon basic inspection that it isn't a true Rogue like. I don't entirely agree with it, but there's merit to the pedantry. Rogue is extremely unpredictable, and withholds information. You aren't just getting a procedurally generated dungeon each time you play, the randomness deliberately hides vital information from you. Equip a new weapon? It could be cursed and now you can't remove it. Drink a potion? It might kill you instantly. With the exception of cursed chests, this game is far more fair, going out of it's way to elucidate what every obtainable item does before you purchase it or equip it. When I'm in a masochistic mood I'll play games like Rogue or The Pit, but I much prefer games like this where information is more free.

They could still send a cease and desist letter to discord, requesting shutting down the server. Pretty sure this is legal, but it might be expensive to prove that in court. Normally, fan projects get shut down at just the threat of going to court. Folks can't afford to fight a big corporation's lawyers.

@@jprec5174 I do. It's possible that as long as he doesn't try to monetize it and Nintendo isn't working making something similar to this they may leave it be. Although there is a new Zelda coming out soon so that could be a problem for them. I remember when they axed AM2R, but they also revealed Samus Returns for the 3DS shortly after. If they're going to shut it down it would likely be soon since it is growing in popularity and will likely be noticed. Another example though of a fan project that Nintendo has not shut down yet is Pokemon Showdown which has been going since 2011 and Pokemon is arguably just as big to Nintendo as Zelda is.

So, everyone talking of this getting obliterated by Nintendo... why would it? Pokemon Infinite Fusion, which is WAY closer to the original material of Pokemon Red/Blue and Gold/Silver, than this is to ALttP (or any Zelda game) is still alive after like 2+ years of being in the public eye. And was made in a similar engine (RPG Maker). If you wanna use AM2R as the basis, that is the wrong one to call up: It was a fan remake of a game that Nintendo themselves was remaking at the time. Just BAD timing. Nintendo is not going to make a Zelda rogue-like. Nintendo hasn't forced the take down of the PC Reverse-Engineered A Link to the Past game (which you have to supply your own legally-acquired ROM for, to supply assets to). Nintendo hasn't targeted the PC Enhanced Remake of Zelda II: Adventures of Link. They don't have anything to stand on with this one as well. Also, nobody is asking for money, related to this (or the other titles I mentioned above. AM2R's dev did have a patreon). That is the one other way for fangames using IP to die.

Yeah, I haven't gotten to the end yet but just found out about this today. The creator is a dick for that, it's not funny, it's not fun, and I have no desire to do it. I would just take getting there as the 'end' if I do end up playing it again. All you keep from start to finish is your hearts? So beyond stupid. I also read that the creator has a hard stance on keeping it like that so don't expect it to change. So close to a great experience ruined for literally no reason.
