Used to work in tech repair. People would frequently come in when their phone wasn't charging or their headphones wouldn't connect properly, and usually all you needed to do is clean the ports out and it was fixed. It took less than a minute or two so I usually wouldn't charge them since I always really liked cleaning the various different devices.

And here in my town they will tell that the charging port needs to be replaced. Even if they just clean the original port, they will charge for a new port.

The liquid that he uses for cleaning after picking dirt out is called IPA (isopropanol 99%) DO NOT USE WATER or other cleaning solutions IPA is very aggresive for dirt/oil and skin, it evaporates quickly and does not conduct electricity, that is why its perfect for this If you plan on using it just open windows so the air circulates and wear gloves because of the IPA 😁👍 Good luck

Thank you for this! I used the I-Fix-It kit with the tiny needle nose tweezers to clean compressed lint out of my Type-C charge port! It Worked! The connector snaps into place now! No more wiggling the charger into the port and leaving my phone sitting in a certain way to charge! So happy I saw this! **Note:** If you use any tweezers make sure they are ESD safe tweezers that way you aren't likely to short out any pins in your charge port or turn the device off fully just to be safe! *Doing this saved me from having to pay someone to swap my charge port when it only need to be cleaned!* I used to just rinse my charge port to keep it "clean" but I was mostlikely just rinsing some out and when the port dried out and I would go to charge my phone I was just mashing the rest of my pocket lint down into the bottom/back of the charge port preventing the connector from going all the way in like it should have!

Your comment made me realise that when I've tried to clean the port before, I was simply far too gentle with the lint, I didn't expect it to be so compacted. I've been using wireless charging for about a year under the assumption the port was dead, and now it can breath again :D

I immediately checked my phone after watching this and I must ask, how on earth do these phones get so dirty? I mean, my phone has been through the dirt too. I accidentally spilled ginger sauce on it, I let the kids play on it with their little gunk fingers, corn starch, flour, and other culinary products, and years of general use. I have NEVER seen a phone this dirty. It's almost as if they.... made it dirty on purpose?

My charging port regularly gets this dirty, I don't know how, but I clean it out around every third month or so, I live in Iceland and our climate is quite dry, that might be the reason but I'm not sure tbh. But the rest of the ports don't make sense to me, it's only the charging port for me.

I've found that basic, lock picking tools are good for cleaning out charging ports. I got some with a transparent lock for Christmas one year and they do a good job. I think a lot of people don't realise quite how hard you have to go in at all that matted crap to get it out. You really have to dig for it but the satisfaction of pulling out a wad of fluff, then your phone charging is good.

Great video!! I keep my iPhone and earbuds in their case in the back pocket of my jeans. I noticed blue fuzz in all the openings of both. After cleaning them out I now keep the charging ports pointing up in my pockets. My husband scratches a lot of Lottery tickets in his car. The sticky black crumbs would get into everything. Cleaning his phone was a pain. Now he puts it in a plastic bag in the car. The other thing that collects in the phone crevices are dead skin cells. They combine with the oils to make that crud. I’m often cleaning my iPhone, my earbuds (which need a lot of attention) and the keyboard on my pc. I use alcohol (IPO) which evaporates quickly. I also use a cotton swab, little brushes and canned air. I would never use anything pointy like a needle or a safety pin. The sharp point might damage something in the opening.

Omg… I’ve been having issues with my phone’s charging port for like a year now, I’d struggle to different levels trying to get the charge to stay connected each night. Then I saw this video and was like huh… sure enough there was quite a bit of lint in it! Not as much as the one in the video, but still a surprising amount. After I cleared it out, took less than 5 minutes, the charge connects without issue and stays connected. Charging your phone is such a small part of daily life, but it’s like a burden has been lifted lol.

A clean medium bristle toothbrush is great with IPA. Just make sure you brush across the grill and don’t push down to hard. I would avoid using a pick on the speaker or microphone on the bottom it’s very easy to poke through them and they might require a whole unit replacement. The toothbrush and rubbing alcohol is usually enough. You can also get blue poster tac. Roll a bit into a ball about the size of a grape and press firmly into the grill and then pull out quickly. Finally be careful when you clean the charging port. Make sure you know where the charging pins ar and avoid them to minimize the chance of damaging the pins

Might depend on how often you replace your phone. Some people don't replace them until they're dead or aren't compatible with cell services any more simply because cost is a factor. Tip if you want less dust in your charging port. Put the phone upside down (with charging port up) into your pocket.

How can the cases get this dirty? I’m not judging just asking as I want to avoid getting my case dirty. I’ve had mine for over 2 years. I try be as easy as possible but I have lotion on my hands most of the time. Also while working out in my yard I’ve have to put them away because the buds won’t stay in my ears. I just had to get Apple to replace both my earbuds because they quit charging. She commented that I kept them very clean. I didn’t think anything of that comment until seeing this. I’ve never cleaned my ports/speakers/holes out, ever.

Insider, To be honest, I would've never thought about making a KZbin video like this. I think this is absolutely genius. And, I would've never thought about making a tick-tock page showing people how to deep clean dirty iPhones either. Genius, I say. I say, I say… Genius! :-)

To those saying this video is fake, staged and/or the owner is disgusting etc: I really doubt the owner is that nasty, they could've had someone use the phone for years or months like normal but then have them not clean it out.
