look up hunter tools some use a similar insert and are tilted to about 35 to 40 degrees, put one on your handle turn something on the lathe tilting the handle up to find a cutting angle that works for you. you may find the tool works at a little different angle on hardwood vs softwood

I agree with William. Their really only good at 45 degrees for shear scraping.

try the shiny ones for cutting aluminum you might have better luck. Thats what we used when the place I worked for made a prototype out of wood.

I was able to diamond hone the edge down if you bought a couple so you don't have to throw them away but found it's much easier to buy them without.

The guys use copper from the hardware store but I used a joint collar from a pool cue. www.cuestik.com/store/product.asp?ITEM_ID=5756&DEPARTMENT_ID=85 i'm thinking if you google hose ferrule you can find them that way too. www.zoro.com/search?q=ferrule If anyone else has a suggestion please comment below.

Anthony Dowies I'm looking for different sizes. Maybe around 7/16" or 1/2"

You were using carbide inserts for use in a metal lathe. Totally different insert from one used for wood turning.

Bill Arlington correct, I was looking for a moe economical solution.

The other carbide tips work best, I found if you use them at a 45 degree angle to the wood.

FYI I found another source for inexpensive carbide cutters. Automotive tire and brake shops use triangular cutters in their brake drum and rotor lathes. No chip breaker grooves and they are very sharp. If you talk nice you might even get a sample to try out. ;-D They are limited in the type of cuts you can make, but a nice addition to your tool collection. Just sayin'.
