Grace! As a diabetic, I’m so glad you’re rocking the healthcare aesthetic. You’re killing it. The “needles” in your arm are actually called “cannulas” there just very tiny tubes made of safe plastic that emulate veins for delivery or medicine. The needle is just for the insertion!!!!

I loved all your You Deserve a Drink bloopers back in the day. Grace your hospital story made me laugh and cry. You are such a positive, wonderful person in spite of all you have endured lately. I honestly feel that if I had to deal with what you have dealt with I know I wouldn't be doing so well. I also did not know that evergreen meant always green. Definitely a DUH moment. Love yall!

I work in a hospital and I have 2 things: 1. I got familiar with some of the transport guys and most of them are young about 18-20 and they’re pretty laid back. I dont know exactly what the interview process is like but lets just say some hospitals are in desperate need of transport so nurses/techs dont have to stop what they’re doing and take patients to wherever they have to go. I assume they’re given info & some training on patient care but to what extent I’m not sure. 2. The cafeteria and morgue, I was told, are on the same ground floor and next to each other so delivery/transport trucks can have access. Plus they need to keep it really cold for produce and the bodies. Happy to hear you’re doing much better Grace, C.diff is no joke and is a big thing we lookout for in the hospital amongst patients. Fun fact: a possible treatment for C. Diff is a fecal transplant which is exactly what it sounds like, taking a healthy donor’s poopy and putting it into your GI tract to help by changing your gut’s microbiome. I’m so glad my degree is coming into use lol
@RealBradMiller
@RealBradMiller Жыл бұрын
The food supply corporations use their own freezer trucks to deliver food to more than just the hospital, so they would not be able to have bodies placed on their trucks. Also, most morgues in hospitals I've been in have been in the basement. Life is so strange! 👍👍🤗

Hospital worker here! Most of the transport stuff is on the job training. It is (if I’m being honest) a couple times running into a wall or something with a bed or someone telling you to slow down (usually a 90 year old grandma) then you get it down! The interview process is very vague on job duties. When you get in and really see the down and dirty, it’s CRAZY. I miss working at a hospital though. Best job ever.

You’d probably be the one to ask then, are the staff that do solely transport like the guy in her story CNAs or are they hired solely for transport without needing any certifications? I had no idea “transport person” was a job, I just assumed it was always nurses 😆

@@Jason-su9tgI work in a medium sized hospital, and we do have some staff who’s sole responsibility is to move patients to different parts of the hospital for different reasons (and they are usually young, no previous experience required really)…but if they aren’t available/are busy nurses and/CNA’s will do transport too (or if it’s a critically ill person that’s going to the ICU it’s usually a nurse transporting)

I was crying laughing through the triumph of Grace's video, but I should have realized it was even more wild than that 🤣 Also, C. diff is how my uncle found his cancer. He was having weird symptoms, they were treating him for the bacteria, and then afterwards all his symptoms went nuts again, so he went to the ER. And then after some scans a doctor came in and was like, "Uh, did you know you have a tumor on your kidney?" Which he did not know and was obviously terrible, but he wound up spending about a week in the hospital and got every test possible without waiting and was immediately on a treatment plan. And now he's doing pretty good!

As a former hospital volunteer whose job it was to transport patients via wheelchair, I can tell you there is no wheelchair training 😂 at least not for me. I was 12 or 13 years old and on my first day there, they just told me to go start wheeling people around! It was terrifying. These people were in a lot of pain and many of them very heavy-set and old. I was a scrawny teenager who had never operated a wheelchair 😅

Interestingly (for me at least) I've known two guys who worked as hospital porters here in the UK and they both had similar personalities. I think there's definitely a "type" of person who goes into that kind of job and sticks with it. They were both funny guys and I get the impression they could work out how to engage with someone, or if they shouldn't try. Grace suggests it was nice to have that kind of normality in that moment, it was a good distraction. Hospital folk have that disarming nature in my experience. Most of them have to try to keep things very level and normal because they encounter so much that isn't. I think it's good for everyone's mental health that these regular interactions happen in those environments.

Batteries out, and it took another two weeks before the 4 year old would approach it.

I work in a hospital as a pharmacy technician, the transport guy sounds fine. But he shouldn’t have sat in the room with you lol. in my hospital transport is trained to keep the patient talking to ensure they are okay, our transport team can’t work here unless they are CPR trained just in case a patient has a problem that requires CPR. So keeping a conversation going is important to their job. I’ve never heard of them or seen my transport department sit in the room with a patient, they usually chill outside with the nurses until patient gets green lit to be moved. But I catch them talking about anything with the patients, I guess they just try to match their energy. Just my experience lol

I have had more INSANE interactions with transport people than I care to remember. Including being stuck in an elevator post surgery with one who immediately had a panic attack and I had to push all the buttons and communicate for help. They all seem to be skater dudes or women who have just had terrible divorces. Crazy crazy.
