Impressed with the electric install cleanest I've ever seen
@davidparker96766 күн бұрын
As nice and organized as it looks, I'd rather not have it spread out on the wall like that. It would be a much tidier look going into the service with a few large conduits.

I was keeping it all neat and tidy over forty years ago and I always felt good when any of the other trades or the home owner commented about how good the installation looked and how easy it was to figure out the layout of the house.

It is always nice to see such craftsmanship in each of the trades. I marvel at the beauty and details of older homes. I'd love to see a renaissance of skilled craftsmen building homes rather than unskilled laborers we typically see nowadays.

The storm windows seem to be a fire egress hazard? Should they be latched from the inside instead?
@SpringRubber Жыл бұрын
Typically, the IRC requires that a bedroom has a window for egress. But those windows are in a dining room / living room. Heck the windows themselves could have been fixed / non-opening.

In the trades, you must label and mark your tools or else they will quickly become someone else's. When there are multiple contractors and workers on a site, one of the guys can knowingly or mistakenly scoop up your tools at beer-thirty.

Why was the shed guy's company design logo on his back blurred out but his hat along with the worker's jacket and hats weren't blurred out ? The cedar was bottom nailed leaving the nailed exposed, isn't it supposed to be topped nailed then covered by the next row/course ?

So, the exterior storm window changes the R-Value from about R-1.75 to R-2.275. Still terrible.

A 30% improvement to what was there, which is what they said. I suppose when the temps drop in winter one could hang a quilt over the windows. But then a pipsqueak will comment "That's a fire hazard!" -- even though it would be historically authentic.
@Alex.smiffy Жыл бұрын
I suppose we could all live in ugly foam boxes with no windows if R-value was the only thing that mattered. I will happily compromise in order to enjoy natural light streaming through a beautiful antique window.

The shed company gives the customer what they wanted. If you don't, you go out of business. And they had to get approval for everything so guess the historic commission was satisfied? And why wouldn't they show they best work they can do, with such a huge audience watching? Makes business sense.
