As Randy (below) said, put in two seals back-to-back. One keeps lube in, the other keeps water out. Thanks for the video.

From time to time, we all get one of those chewed up brass orifices. I then enlarge the orifice, stick the biggest bolt extractor that'll fit without damaging the bowl's threads, pull out the orifice and lightly seat a new one in there. Regards !

What happen to my reply? Wow that was 5 hours ago! and your not in "comments I haven't answered" list. weird, anyway. I said I thought that was strange, its usually 2 seals but the schematic said 1 on marineengine.com. I was just coming back to ask if you think the one seal is gonna bite me in the ass! I see you got the heart. Hahaha Thanks

1 seal should do the trick I use 2 when the shaft is worn but if it's ok don't worry about it 👍

Hopefully one does work for you, I'll stay tuned to see. But the diagram at Crowley Marine for my 1984 25hp shows 2 of them, one up and one down. The two seals fill the space of the single original single seal perfectly. The bottom seal is supposed to keep the oil in and the upper is supposed to keep the water out. Thank you for the great videos!!

Do you have any ideas or suggestions for how to fix a 20hp Johnson 50th Anniversary,outboard? It fell over and broke off the tiller arm end and the midsection hole where it connects?(its on the tiller arm side without the gear and linkage)
@THISOLDOUTBOARD17 ай бұрын
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Best bet is to check ebay for parts and replace everything thats broken. 18 - 20/25 horse parts will work through that era. Thanks again & Stay tuned !

Thanks, i’ve been looking. Haven’t had much luck yet for those parts. I was hoping maybe there was a way to weld them back together or something.

I have a 1974 9.9 evinrude that I am puzzled on and figured I would ask for help. I have good compression and spark. I am getting fuel to the fuel pump the from the fuel pump to the carb. I have clean everything in the carb all the little holes and jets and it will hit and sputter then die. Any idea on what I could try next? It’s almost like I can’t get gas through the intake or maybe I am. Are the reeds stuck?could it be the points? What would you try next?
@THISOLDOUTBOARD18 ай бұрын
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Is the choke working properly, if you don't open the choke up as soon as it fires it will flood and sputter out. After it sputters and dies pull the plugs out and see if they're wet or dry. If wet, then you'll know the fuel is getting to the plugs. If they're soaking wet then its getting to much fuel, flooding out, weak spark, timing is off. I think your best bet is to go here, web.archive.org/web/20160221095546/leeroysramblings.com/Outboard%20Motor%20Related/OMC%20outboard%20related%20articles.html. This is leeroys ramblings, the website is down but I was able to find this link through the "wayback" machine so be sure and bookmark it. Everything you ever need to know is there. Leeroys is where I learned everything! Thanks again !

Good morning friend, I have a question maybe you can help. It's regarding 1969 johnson 20hp lower unit spaghetti rubber seal, I go online and give them the right part number but keep sending me the wrong one. The 20hp seal is larger than one for a 10hp. I you have that part number and where you get your parts I appreciate it. Thank you
@THISOLDOUTBOARD16 ай бұрын
Hey. 309044, 0309044 is the part number according to marineengine.com, says it's 7/8. but boats.net says its 7/16. I use ebay for parts most of the time. Go there and search both numbers, you'll be able to see what your getting and can ask the seller for actual size. They'll cut the length you want also. Give it a shot! Thanks !

Hey I got a 1996 25 hp Johnson how much compression should it have I have 74 psi on boat cylinder is that to low to run
@THISOLDOUTBOARD18 ай бұрын
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Yeah thats low for a 25, but the rings may be stuck, did you just get it and/or has it been sitting for awhile? If thats the case take the bypass cover off and see if they're stuck and that way you can see the pistons too and what kind of shape they're in.
