You look great!! I’m 48 and decided to stop coloring my hair. Watching videos like this has made my decision easier to make. I’m at the point in my life where I don’t care what people think anymore. You’re an inspiration!!

Thank you. I've been growing mine out too and the negative comments from people who are suppose to be my friends is incredible.. But I'm doing it anyways.
@thenew_knew6 жыл бұрын
Yeah girl, people just don't realize how hurtful those comments can be. They think they are stating facts when in reality it's just their view and they don't realize that another view can even exist. I did the same thing to my mom when she first went gray. We all did. Me, my Dad, everyone ganged up on her and she dyed her hair again. I wish I never did that. It was so selfish. I mean, who even cares!?

I’m 46 and I decided a month ago to stop coloring my greys and go natural. I thought about it for 10 months before making that decision and did research on KZbin university ;) before I made that decision. I wanted to know what to expect and seeing all the stories and experiences of so many different women helped tremendously. The most important thing I learned about going grey and from my research is that the transition is very psychological and emotional. I knew it would be; but I didn’t realize how much of the transition is about the psychology of yourself and everybody else. I feel now I can be more of my authentic self and I too feel stronger and liberated from societal expectations. You look beautiful! Have fun on this amazing journey!

While salons are still closed in my city due to COVID19....I’m frustrated and decided to be done with this nightmare of hair color! Last night my 26 yr old daughter shared that she didn’t support me. I’m hurt, angry and almost decided to turn back........but my wonderful husband is so supportive and encouraged me to continue. Your video has furthered my resolve. I never expected to have so many feelings around this one decision. I’m only at 2 1\2 months in at this point....but I cannot turn back! Thank you for sharing your story, it’s meant a lot for me today!
@angelawhite71403 жыл бұрын
I think it was Monique Parent? on KZbin that had said that Daughter's may not be supportive because it will make them feel old when you choose to go gray. I have 4 months of new growth & for sure it looks like shit, but Im not turning back either. My 30 year old Daughter has not been very supportive of my decision & that's okay because I'm not doing this for her.
@charlottesmom2 жыл бұрын
@@angelawhite7140 , My mom started going gray shortly after I was born, so I guess I was lucky since she was over 50% gray in my teens (she never dyed her hair), I never had the issue with it making me feel old. My middle son started graying when he was 18 or so, he's 25 now and has a nice sprinkling. I'm ditching the color and should have done it years ago!

Aw what a lovely video! You have added to my conviction that now is the right time to let go of the red hair dyeing process! I realise we all have our own experiences, but it helps to know the 'bench mark' times along the way!!! Thanks again for sharing, without you 'youtubers' sharing it would be a lonely, more scary process for all of us just starting out on the journey. And your hair really suits you!

I'm 48 and decided 4 months ago to just stop coloring my hair....I told my mom...and she said "well...Gray looks nice on some people" ...... HA.... she is 75 and still religiously goes to have her hair colored....and it is the ONE thing she will NEVER do without.....so her reaction makes perfect sense to me ~!! 4 months of growth...I'm still hanging in...but I don't want to cut my hair (first time getting it past my ears....) so I'm getting itchy to color the brown parts to at least get them to blend .....dunno....just so happy to see other people around my age going through the same situation.....Thanks for the nice video of your journey....

Hi Jennifer! Thanks so much for sharing! If you asked me last year, I would have been exactly like your mom - I never thought I would stop dying my hair! I know what you mean, it's hard to shake that feeling of HURRY UP! Keep it up girl.

It's unsual to see older women without coloured hair in our culture. Actually, it's unusual to see anyone without coloured hair now. Who believes that a 70 year old woman has pitch black hair? Who are we kidding? A big part of the problem is that people think they have to look and act "young". Women are still afraid of being "old" and "frumpy" ie not sexy. It's hard to fight that.

You are gorgeous!! I love your silver hair! I stopped dying 3 years ago (I'm 38). Funny how extended family had the most negative to say. "You can't be gray in your 30's!" "Well apparently I can be because gray hairs have been coming in since I turned 21."

I'm 55 and I gave up the hair colouring about a year ago. I started colouring in my early 20's trying to get back to the blonde of my childhood, thinking my actual colour wasn't exciting enough. After colouring for 20 something years I realized that I was having to retouch my roots every 2 weeks !!! It was expensive, tedious and my hair condition was suffering . The tipping point was when my son asked me what my real hair colour is and I couldn't remember! I decided to let it grow out a bit and see... and one year later here I am! It's not quite what I expected- it's better. Around my face and my canopy is platinum, and the back is a bit darker, kind of ash blonde. What was I so afraid of? What was I trying so hard to cover/ improve for so many years? I touch my new, virgin hair and it's so soft and smooth- doesn't require all the product and styling my coloured hair needed. I have those rebellious, sticky uppy hairs you noticed - it's new growth! I'm convinced all the colouring was frazzling and breaking my hair. If I could go back in time and meet my 20 year old self I'd tell her " You are beautiful just the way you are!" It's tragic the way women and girls in our culture are taught early on to think there are things wrong with them that need to be fixed, and that they need to buy so many products in the endless, futile search for perfection. Love yourselves, love your hair the way it is! Now I can't stop touching mine and thinking " this is my REAL hair, it's all mine!" 😁

Just discovered your channel. This video really touched me. I have been considering going grey since the beginning of the year. I'm 51 and color my roots every 2 1/2 weeks. Hubby is super supportive (in fact, he suggested it in the first place) but my older sisters and 84-year-old mom still color their hair. Even my 94-year-old grandmother died her hair blond the week before she passed away of old age! So it's in our family culture. Besides that, I'm trying to work out the emotional attachment I have to my brown hair. Anyway, I love how you articulated creating the burden of your self-consciousness and I can totally relate. I also loved how you said you've gotten to know yourself and your hair in a whole new way. Good food for thought and something I'll remember when I start this journey! Thanks so much for sharing your story. :)

Hey girl! Totally! That is so cute you said your grandma dyed her hair blonde until she was in her 90s - my grandma does too! She is 91 : ) That is so generational I think. She even still does her brows and nails and pink lipstick with blue eyeshadow. I just love her. This is a process for sure, I just didn't expect it to be such an internal one. But honestly I can say that everything that's come from it has been truly positive and I'm so glad I did it! Conquering this fear has really taught me a lot about perspective and personal truths. Wishing you the best!

Gray hair means you've lived life long enough to tell about it. You look beautiful. I'm dealing with the same issue (started in earnest around 40yrs). I like my gray but not concentrated at the hairline so, struggle with the issue of coloring or not. You really look pretty. I think your natural color hair is actually more becoming on you. What helped me 2 yrs. ago to allow my natural color to grow in was: 1) people like encouraging you who made videos. 2) my belief that God doesn’t make mistakes & it is true that our natural hair color is really best for us 3) getting my hair professionally lightened to blonde was making my hair thinner & thinner Now, besides the new growth like yours on top, I am loosing a lot less hair I realized when finding hardly any hair wrapped around the roller of my vacuum when I looked to clean it yesterday! Although it did take me some time to get use to, I like it now. What helps, too, is learning “what color clothes & jewelry better works with my hair color. The book “Color Me Beautiful” helped. Transitioning grafually from warm to cool colors.

Or next week, or next month or next year or 5 years from now. Im 52. I look 52 and maybe going gray makes me a look a little older.... but I want this. and Im doing it. You DO look beautiful!! Thanks for being Brave. Thanks for being strong. Thanks for being YOU!! You give the rest of us permission to find our own way no matter what that is. xo

I turned 45 in June. That's the last time I dyed my hair. I'm going on month 5 but I'm trying to hang in there. The holidays are coming up so doubt is coming in. I've heard it all "you're too young to go grey" "you're too pretty to go grey " "don't do it" "you wouldn't last 6 months before dying it again" I said to myself in June that if can make it to December I could make it to the next June. Right now, I'm going day by day I'm also seeing a pretty awesome white streak in the front and I'm getting really curious to see what it'll look like once it's finally ALL grey. I wish there was a easier way to transition but for me, I'm tired of spending $180 every 2 months at the hairdresser for highlights only to try to hide the grey better, it doesn't. I've got about 2 inches of grey/dark brown & highlighted hair, but I can do this. I will do this. So what if I have a young face. I think having grey hair will look amazing on me and I'll feel so free when all it's done. I don't know how your video came on my feed BUT Thank you for your video. You gave me the extra push I needed today because I started to doubt myself because of the upcoming Holidays. Maybe I should start documenting my journey too. I know Men are typically called 'silver foxes' I think we need a name for Women....besides people saying 'she's letting herself go'.... anyway, THANK YOU! 👵

Just subscribed to your channel! You inspire me! You're gorgeous on the outside and from your way of speaking, I'd say on the inside too. So cool to embrace who we are naturally. Don't get me wrong. I wear perfume and makeup and jewelry. But hair is another story. Ditched the dye in March 2020 and now I'm binge- watching your videos to get tips on embracing the process. Thank you! I’m 65 and two months in. I may do some highlights or lowlights after it’s all grown out, but from what I can tell, I still have quite a bit of brown left. I didn’t color my hair at all until I was in my 40’s and it started fading.

Your skin looks more vibrate with the natural grey. I am 43 and just bought a semi permanent box hair dye. The greys are really showing lately. I am a plain jane, but feel messy when I leave my hair curly with the grey. When I style it I embrace my grey much more. I guess I should stop being lazy and do my hair every day. Ugh. I do wish that I had that rich color I use to have. This and the saggy chin are really getting to me.

Hey girl! I can totally identify with these feelings. It's hard to do your hair everyday so maybe try for 3X a week. If you love it done then maybe this will help you love it more, you know? And I use natural skincare, mostly face oils. I write about it all the time on my blog, I especially love the True Botanicals line - if you search "True Botanicals" on my website, it will come up, plus a way to save too. It changed my skin in 3 weeks. It's pretty amazing. xo!

I think we as women need to set the tone for what is beautiful. Embracing your curls instead of straightening your hair...embrace the color of you hair including gray instead of dying it...embrace the no-makeup day because you are beautiful on the inside. I love your texture and going gray. Keeping it 100.

Thank you so much. I just turned 50 and have been struggling with letting my hair go natural. Natural use to be medium brown but for the last 10 years have been doing highlights then more and more blonde because it was covering my large amount of grey that I started getting in my late 20's. I keep telling my self to let it go and stop spending so much money on it. It's just so hard contemplating how much older will I look. I know that sounds so bad hitting that 50 mark really makes it hard.... I'm due now and for a color and your video is helping me see the beauty in embracing my grey. Thank you, Angel
@thenew_knew6 жыл бұрын
I agree! I am not 50 but I would guess the older you get, the harder it is to do it. BUT what I've come to discover is the lighter hair around my face really does actually soften my features and make me look younger in some ways. Isn't that crazy!? Gray hair makes me look younger. Who knew!?

Awesome video. I'm just at the very start of the process and your video is super inspiring. Thanks for showing all the different stages. As your dyed colour is similar to mine it's helped me to know what to expect. Your natural hair is SO beautiful. I can't wait to see what mine is like. I have seen so many before and after photos of dye vs natural and the natural always, 100% of the time, looks better. I'm super inspired and excited. Thank you again :-)))
