Don't hesitate to get deep into the religious meanings, because this is all inspired by Carl Jung, and he studied & wrote extensively about religious symbolism, including but not limited to Christianity. Also, religions communicate similar themes such as death and rebirth. We can all learn from each other's cultures and religious backgrounds.

I think it is significant that Jungguk does his own baptism, normally a baptism "forgiveness" is given by a leader, but Jungguk forgives himself. A good lesson for all of us. Forgiving yourself is true healing, doesn't matter what others say, forgive yourself. Love yourself. 💜

In the Jericho story, the shofar blowing and the shouts of the people brought down the walls of Jericho. Jericho was known as a walled, unconquerable city. On the 7th day the people marched around the walls 7 times. When the shofar was blown, the shout of the people brought down the impenetrable walls. Listen to the horns and the shouting during the dance break of the '7' members. I think their 'Jericho' is the US music industry. I think the hooded figures represent any of the dark, shadowy parts in the map of their souls standing in the way of them conquering their 'Jericho' and the horns/shouting destroy the barriers that keep them from achieving the victory that seemed impossible for them - success in the US music industry. Just my take on it. So much symbology ...so little time!

You had me at your ASMR reading of the lyrics with "hey na na na" 😆 I was still dozing in bed, but that made me smile lol Also! The child whose symbolism you couldn't figure out? They're also a callback to the Make It Right MV and they represent ARMY. So with all of the pain and suffering BTS has gotten through, ARMY has led them out of it and opened the flood gates for the guys to be able to share their emotions and experiences with us. A lot of artists tend to keep themselves closed off, but BTS and ARMY are like family. We're all here for each other, and we'll lead each other through the darkness so we can shine like stars. Which are words I needed to hear myself today. Funny how realizations come about.

Well first you have to remember that BTS from the beginning were encouraged to be authentic and real. Suga said in the beginning that they had NO idea they were ever going to be as big as they are and to paraphrase it scared the poop out of them. They came they a battlefield to get there, their message has been from the beginning about peace and self love (dove) that got pierced with arrows (shots fired) they have been through terrible ordeals coming up. Now they are running/working but with constraint (s) running away from a closed off situation….societal mindset? Industry lockdown? Glass ceilings? To a new land (ark) Jk enters water (baptism?) out with old and in with new? Healing wrists? Conch Shell (Shankha) Symbol - Why Is It Important? Lots on google, of all things to pull out of water they chose conch. The darkening skies and eruption could signify the impact on American/World and they had to come with it/turn it on and fight a new battle. Finally the doors have opened the message took on life again and was able to fly, they were heard. Where there was no more dream, having reached a pinnacle or roof where they came from. They were able to see a new world and ascend further…they could fly…,from no more dream….to being able to dream again

Your explanation was amazing. Having all their struggles listed out like this almost made me cry. (Not just saying that, mean it) but look where they're at now. Some random thoughts...To Jung, whose thought we know is reflected in BTS work, the shadow would be those aspects of ourselves that society doesn't approve of but must be accepted for mental health and growth. JK has said that his character was expelled from the community for having certain powers or ability that no-one else had. On another level I think the MV speaks to perhaps youth inheriting a barren and wartorn world, being able to face it, and bring about renewal and growth. The monk with the drum is young (one meaning of the phrase "to follow the drum" is to join the military and fight but here the beater is a person of peace) the followers in Yoongi's scene are young, and there's the girl with Tae. We see the dove that Jin brought back to life as well as the 7 doves that are the first through the gate into a renewed land. A couple of things I've always wondered about... Why in the "Ark" scene is there only one of every animal? Is this really about how man time and again destroys the world or how we carelessly are destroying habitats and endangering species? And if you look again at that scene from above where the forest appeared behind BTS, that's where ARMY was before, we only see the seven members. The rest of the people seem to have become the forest or maybe we just can't see them because of the trees. So many layers and potential interpretations. Just another day in BTS world.

I didn’t see anyone else mention this but the conch shell you were so confused by is theorized to be a reference to the book The Lord of the Flies and/or the arch angel Gabriel’s horn. The big wall that opens up could also reference the Maze Runner book/movie series and the rocks they climb are comparable to pride rock from The Lion King. These are just some of the more popular reference theories I’ve seen. Also as a non-binary person you choosing not to assume the child’s gender made me really happy!! 😊💜💙💜

hahah you reading the "oh na na na" part of the lyrics in that Shakespearean way reminds me something funny. In an interview once , the guys were asked what was their favorite BTS lyrics. I think some members answered with some profound lyrics. When it got to V, without missing a beat he said "oh na na na". With a completely straight, serious face. And he said it just like the way you said "oh na na na" too, super dramatic and poetic, like he just quoted Charles Dickens or something. V's deadpan humor is just the best, he delivers it with a completely straight face. Top notch reaction as always, doesn't matter what comments say, your interpretations are always correct to me, no matter what. Tbh I've watched very few reactions to this MV and haven't analyzed it much myself, just felt confused in the past, but today a bunch of new theories clicked for me! For Jimin's set with all the drums, I was reminded of the phrase "drums of war." Perhaps this reflects all the battles we fight in our lives. The drums are mismatched because everyone's battles are unique. (No clue about the old truck though!) For Hobi's set in the field of dead twisted trees, I think the trees here replace the dead bodies we saw earlier. (In the opening shots, we see dead bodies but no trees, and now it's reverse.) Maybe referencing life's battles cutting us down. I also think the fact the trees are twisted expresses how complex people are: we don't grow in straight lines. For the blindfolded child, I think there's some message about trust there. Trusting BTS to lead us to a place of hope? Though they usually don't claim the role of savior like that, so I'm not sure. Or maybe it reflects tuning out the negativity around you while still pushing forward? The dance break set feels hellish. I think this represents fighting like hell, fighting through hell, to get to the other side of a hard situation or to conquer our demons and become the better version of ourselves. This aligns with the meaning behind the hooded robes they wear at one point if we link them to the BU. This isn't really a spoiler, but we see similar hooded robes in some BU MVs when themes of temptation and growth are being portrayed. If dead trees = hopeless people, then it suddenly makes sense why in the end we see the people at the gate (each wearing a unique drum!) shown as a field of living trees! Everything that was dead in the beginning (people, trees, the bird of peace) comes back to life by the end of the MV. Yes, this fits a Biblical theme of being reborn, but also general themes of hope through perseverance, which is what the lyrics convey. I'm less confident on my theories about the ark, the shell, the thorns, and pride rock. I love how there are so many ways to interpret all of this!

Oooh this was really fun to watch. I’ve watched this mv a lot and still haven’t come to a final conclusion on all my theories! I literally just noticed for example at 33:05 here that there are seven white doves flying instead of the one from before! PS if I understood your question and you were asking about the difference between blind and visually impaired, there’s a lot of overlap (like every square is a rectangle kind of thing). “Blind” has a legal definition that varies between countries, in the USA it’s anyone with 20/200 vision or worse. (About 15% of all blind people have no sight at all, so most blind people can see some things, whether that be shadow and light, etc). “Visually impaired” is a bit broader in definition, basically anyone whose eyesight cannot be fixed to 100% by glasses :) Also, I genuinely really enjoy your lyric narration at the start haha, please keep that up!

Roscoe, lover, I kept waiting, waiting, WAITing for you to watch to the actual end of the MV. Yes, No More Dream was their debut song, an absolute anthem and a call to action for the youth of Korea who ... seemed to have no dream of their own. At the very end. No and More fade, leaving only the word Dream. I love the way that with this song, along with everything else they did, they took that early defiant call. shook it out in the wind and softened it into an invitation from a place of maturity and warmth.

A little theory i had originally on the drums was their use of communication in war times, seeing them all piled up and discarded to me feels the same as the dove being shot down, no more peace, piles of attempts at communication discarded and ignored. Also take into consideration that this was the title song for Map of the Soul 7, they used Carl Jung's Map of the soul writings which included Persona, Shadow and Ego. Also tracks on this album. PERSONALLY (disclaimer, my own personal view) I think this song encompasses all of those writings combined. One of the lyrics in this song "gotta go insane to stay sane" and also "i throw all of myself into this two sided world" is kind of how i interpreted the Lord of the rings scene, it's like a battle between the dance gang BTS and the cloak wearing conch shell holding BTS and in the end they're left, after the battle that explodes volcanoes, with the raggamuffin BTS moving on into a better world, kinda humble but hopeful because they know you can't be one kind of person inside yourself and you have to humbly accept your flaws and move on. I am 95% sure all of this is wrong and i don't care because BTS haven't said other wise.

One of the many reasons I love BTS. Their music videos are ART! Art is meant for the viewer, you can just enjoy the visuals or you can dig in deeper and look for all the little clues and hidden meanings. You're getting good at telling them apart, next step is the voices! There are times when even seasoned ARMY has trouble telling them apart. Keep enjoying your journey!!

My first time watching I wanted to yell out when JK runs up the rock, “No!! Don’t jump!” But after more watches, it made me feel like we made it to the top (new world/heaven/whatever positive place) and we are not afraid because we’ve already fought the hard fight and we’ll go in peace no matter where we end up. His passionate take-off and assured smile makes me think that more. It’s a warm scene to me vs. my initial thoughts. Bring the pain on, I’m not afraid, and I’ll accept myself or my situation in this most beautiful place at the end, something like that. Being brave for the next chapter in life. This feels very powerful in the face of defeat, illness, death, anything we may be afraid of. Reaching inside ourselves despite the hardships and grief to find comfort and inner peace to just keep going ON and ON and ON!! We fight and we win!!! And we don’t give a UHH!!

I realized that many reactors look at the camera and speak to viewers but you are the only one who acts as we are in front of your couch in real, and it feels very natural. Your theories are nice. Sometimes I think that this one MV is just so epic and big because "we can, so what!" opposite to ´No more dream´ which is also epic, but grounded.
@ForgetfulDreams6
@ForgetfulDreams6 2 жыл бұрын
No More Dream is likely mentioned at the end, because On is backwards of No. No was another early song of theirs. But it also shows that in the past you might not have had a dream, but now you can.

I'm so glad I finally watched this! I have been so busy with work that I haven't kept up with your vids 😭. Anywho LOVED seeing you rack your brain trying to decipher the video 🤭. My personal feeling is that the guys used many references to different religions to tell the story that we ALL are the same and that we can overcome anything together. Also the section with the dance break, I view that scene as the revolution that happened in order for the world to be reborn. Trying to decipher this when it first came out gave me all kinds of headaches lol BUT I enjoyed everyone of those headaches! 😉😂🤪💜

From your decoding with a Christian lens: when you're analysing the last dance scene and speaking of Scriptures and Jesus's Death, you reminded me: before He rose, He went to Hell and claimed back the keys (shell?/authority) from the devil (who had authority on earth = chaos/war). Hence at the Resurrection, new life (new growth). The Peace Dove was released just beforehand by Jin. Then you see them walking in the new 'Eden' (the door to Eden is now open) and climbing (we grow spiritually and climb Heavenwards). Notice the 7 birds/doves that flew over? Freedom, hence JK's smile. The rock pointing Heavenwards etc. My take only. 😉😉

Good Morning, Roscoe! I knew you would love this for a deep dive. I have mentioned before this MV is where I fell for BTS, and I fell hard. Just some sideline trivia... This was filmed in southern California. The rocks and barren scenes are at Vasquez Rocks, with some computer magic. If you want to find the spot with these rocks on Google maps, look for "Star Trek Historical Film Site". A lot of old movies and TV shows used this area. I went there this past December and to Sepulveda Dam (Kinetic Manifesto site) about 40 minutes from Vasquez Rocks.

Hello!!! It's good to hear you try to decode this song from your perspective. I always like to hear other voices. When I saw this for the first time and in a simplistic way I thought about this: for me the main message from my perspective was "WAKE UP", let's wake up, be aware of our battles and the call we have as humans to be better ones with others, taking off the blindfold and knowing that the pain and the struggles and the darkness will drive us to look for doors to a place where we will grow more and more (That's my own delusion hahaha) Thanks Roscoe

Another great video from Roscoe! And I agree, I miss your decoding days too. For this mv, I decided one time to skip assigning meanings to the symbols, and just look at the feelings and generalized message. At the start, everyone except the Fugitive is too stymied by thinking their own thoughts and feeling their own feels. The Scholar: sad, compassionate, hopeful. The Youth: confused, aimless. The Guardian: completely immobilized. The Leader: looks in-charge but feels hesitant. The Artist and the Priest are philosophical, but not going anywhere. Only the desperate, exhausted Fugitive is making any progress. Each one looks to the sky. "Maybe it's because the sky is blue and the sun is shiny, that my tears are more clearly seen." Then, as the Fugitive slows down, everyone else starts to mobilize and an intimidating opportunity for a new life opens up. The girl sees again. The dove flies again. Wading into the water marks a new level of freedom and a blessing for the Fugitive. The shell is a symbol of power and summoning the community. And then all hell breaks loose! But all of it, the black clouds, the volcano, the fortress with warriors and torches, the powerful drumming and dancing, and even the robed authority figures/judges mean one thing: a build up of rebellion, defiance, determination, power and action. "Are you ready to get hyped up?" "Fire! Oh!" They return to their new opportunity energized. They feel as free as the 7 white doves. They start their ascent to unknown heights. The joy on the Fugitive's face is enough to put a panic in our hearts when we realize how far he and the others could fall. But they proceed with confidence, and we remember "Once upon a time, we learnt how to fly!" and our spirits soar. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Yaaay! This is one of my favorite BTS MVs! 💜 I hadn't watched it in a while and I got goosebumps all over again. Also, I've watched a lot of reactors talk about this video and most of them don't notice some specific details; I've only seen you and a priest notice them. Just thought it was funny and wanted to point it out. 😜 About the breakdance part, I've always interpreted it as the culmination of them overcoming their pain and fighting to liberate themselves from it. Sort of a final battle before genuine growth (which is where all the plants appearing comes in). But that's just me. 🙂

I'm not even halfway through and I'm already in a way better mood than I was starting. You're dramatic lyric readings are everything. I lost it on the serious oh na na na's. And you getting excited to decode things, just makes me excited to relive watching content again. And you're right, don't care what people say. Art is subjective, even if it's not "supposed" to be the meaning, whatever you get out of it is still valid because that's what you felt about it. Thank you for always making my day a little brighter. Also, just to throw this out there for you to include into your thoughts. I saw someone mention the album is base of Jung's theories and all. But there are also Maze Runner references in it as well as other important symbols from other religions.

@@ThisRoscoe Roscoe, ON Grand Central is where it all started for me. The guys were on Jimmy Fallon end of Feb 2020 as part of their US promotions for their MOTS7 world tour. They filmed all of the ON videos while in the US from Jan-Mar 2020. Jimmy was so excited to have the guys on his show again that he devoted an ENTIRE HOUR TO BTS! UNHEARD OF! They interviewed and played some BTS Olympics games on a NYC subway train, hung out at the famous "When Harry Met Sally" Deli (Robert Deniro stopped by for a sandwich while they were filming and was caught on camera), and then they finished the hour by performing ON in Grand Central Station at 2am when the maintenance workers gave them some time to film (let's just say that Jimmy has lots of connections 😉). FOR THE HORDE!!!!! Loving the reactions, just keep doing you, Roscoe, there is no right or wrong way to your BTS journey. 💜 Just as there is no right or wrong way to interpreting the meaning of the songs. Every song has multiple meanings. 1: The thought out concept of the song (like for Tear, this would be a song about the ending of a relationship & each member represents different ways of dealing with it. Namjoon says “they” are his tear, as in crying. He is retrospective when thinking about the end of their relationship, where did he go wrong, they go wrong, & concluding that it hurts but he realizes that he did love them after all and he cries. Yoongi says “they” are his tear as in he is torn. They broke him & he is no longer whole. He is a tattered version of himself & needs the destruction so he can stop feeling what he feels & move on. And for Hobi, “they” are his fear. Because things didn’t work out & it was such a bad ending he is now afraid. Afraid to reminisce, afraid to be vulnerable again, afraid to let anyone close again & afraid to try again. It was quite brilliant) 2: What inspired them to write for that concept. (Again for Tear, that would be Yoongi when he wrote his part & the melody, it was him drawing on his feelings of possibly the group disbanding & losing the members & the future they had dreamt of together.) 3: The concept of their MV (Tear didn’t have one, but their MVs normally have its own story they want to tell with it, it sometimes coincides with the lyrics but most of the time it’s telling a whole other story. Like with Spring Day, 1: the song itself is about missing someone, whether deceased or drifted apart. 2: It was inspired by Namjoon simply seeing a leaf fall from a tree. And 3: the MV, which is about the Sewol Ferry tragedy, which BTS has now confirmed btw. While lyrically it goes with the MV, the MV had its own story.) And 4: the last possible meaning is literally whatever you took from it. Whatever it meant to you. BTS is very careful to not give too much information because they want us to feel however the song makes us feel & not let other thoughts or meaning cloud our own. We rarely are given true facts about the clues we see so don’t be too concerned about “being wrong” when people say you’re wrong they just mean your interpretation is not in line with the interpretation of the majority. 🙂 Just do you & keep enjoying this journey.
