THOM: The Demon Diaries - Part 4 / Demon on the Dyno

On Episode 4 of The Demon Diaries we head to Sonoma Raceway, to TFB Performance to strap our 2018 Dodge Demon on the dynamometer to see how much rear wheel horsepower and torque it actually makes. Runs were done on both 91 and 100 octane Sunoco fuel on a DynoJet 224x.
From the factory the Demon is rated at 808 hp and 717 lb-ft of torque on 91-octane, and 840 hp and 770 lb-ft of torque on 100-octane when utilizing the Performance PCM. Want to see how close we got to those numbers? Simply click that play button and then make sure to subscribe and share!

Impressive power figures, however, you have to wonder if Dodge isn't short selling the actual power figures at the crank for insurance purposes, just like most muscle car manufacturers used to do back in the 60s.

your not kidding about the numbers, I remember hearing stories of how back in the old lambo factory back when lamborghini was one of the few makers of high performance cars back in the 80's that engines ranged in output, and the actual figures on the unplugged engines in europe were about 450 plus+ and ranged wildy between 450 and 500 just based on the fact that no matter how precise you were, sometimes in some cases somethings just lined up better than others 4:50 and Jesus talk about hitting the warp button, also I gotta admit just looking at a challenger with round flares, I kinda wonder if this could use a touch of 80's design to it via some old school box flares like they had on some of the group B rally monsters of the period, such as the Audi UR Quattro and the Lancia Delta Ingrale and 037 some of which could actually put this thing to shame even today. although NOT in street trim!

100 octanes has the gasoline ??? is ok, ant how is the price per gallon?? In Argentine the 100 octanes costs 6 dollars approx the gallon(here the measure is in liters i translate to gallons the price.)

The fact that you can walk into a dealership (Dodge, no less) and walk out with 720+ RWHP is unbelievable! While it's a great engineering feat, I think it's also the reason kids aren't modifying and turning wrenches anymore. They just walk into dealers and drop the AMEX on the desk. I miss the good ole days of people getting dirty, creative and earning those numbers!

problem is, they dont put their mind to the rest of the car, as bracing kits, monte carlo bars and the like, along with brakes that you would have seen on most porsches are only a recent development to say the least its probably a good thing they didnt reach 700 horsepower on an engine this light in a car that weights just 3000 to 4000 pounds without modern tech to keep them in check all with airbags and modern safety built in, as doing that back then, would have been like putting a supercharged light weight aluminum 426 hemi in a dodge dart. which they, already kinda did actually in 1968.

You guys are both right. Store bought power is easy to get these days if you have the wallet. And no question, there's a place for it. However building something up means you have to think about putting together a cohesive package that works on all levels.

I imagine this DynoJet adds 10% to the final number, as that's how most DynoJets are calibrated new. Or did this shop change that and remove that 10%? I like SuperFlows more because they just give you the real number at the tire. Still, very impressive output!

That number is rated at the flywheel when running 100-octane fuel and the factory installed PCM from the Demon Crate.

My buddy has a Demon killer. His very stock looking 99 corvette is putting down 800 HP to the tires with no spray on pump gas. While being about a thousand pounds lighter. It is a supercharged 427 LS build. You are safe in California though.

It's not meant to. The PCM is optimized for 100 octane. Nothing higher.

Why aren't stock cars laying down 9 second passes? and how come YT is littered with Demons getting spanked by lower HP cars on the street? In one video, the Demon got whipped by a McLaren S570 in a 40mph roll on.

This is as accurate a test as your ever going to get. Break-in was done exactly as prescribed in the manual using the factory provided PCM that came in our Demon crate. The fuel used was Sunoco 91 and 100 octane and the runs were conducted at sea level on a 80-85 degree day. The numbers are pretty much dead-on in regards to what the car should be making.
