@jorgepeterbarton Areas with foliage coverage have lower surface temperature from the shade, the plants draw minerals to the surface increasing availability of nutrients, the cooler ground results in water tables being higher as gross water evaporation from the soil is replaced by lesser evaporation through plant life. the plants starve for sir in O2 rich air and they die off, the soil is exposed, the minerals seep back into the ground or are washed away and CO2 levels rise

I think Thom should watch Zeitgeist Moving Forward documentary so the world would be much better.
@lostbuffalo13 жыл бұрын
@jorgepeterbarton It's a simple fact. you feed plants more, they grow more. and they grow where they want to...where conditions are most favorable. You cut down enough trees to alter the climate...the foliage will respond in other areas to take advantage of the change.

@jorgepeterbarton So what's your point. are you arguing the fact that plants require less water when co2 is more plentiful? or are you arguing that plants will not take advantage of additional co2 and convert it to more oxygen? or that as CO2 is depleted plant growth decreases, conversion to O2 decreases and this is how plants maintain a steady O2/CO2 ratio despite other environmental variables such as how much of earth is covered in plants and how much rain they get?

@jorgepeterbarton scientific basis... at the basic level that would be a knowledge of the periodic chart, the laws of chemistry and of physics. then add biology, geology, meteorology, and a slew of other studies. The facts are...plants need less water when there is more co2 in the air. less co2 in the air (if rainfall remains constant) increases desertification. the % of co2 in the air has no effect on weather and would not effect any change in the rainfall, only assist photosynthesis.

@jorgepeterbarton It's impossible to debunk obscure complicated theories without having a mastery of underlying basics. Not just an understanding of pop science but being able to fabricate theory, predict the exact outcome, and exercise successful unbiased experiments. I can look at free energy and perpetual motion machines and theories and take them apart where the flaws have been glossed over with elaborate device and complication because I have a mastery of the basics. I'm not confused

@Aceload, Fair enough, however he is intitled and bright enough to have an opinion. You want everyone to listen to your point of view do you not?, so return the respect!, when you start to try to stop freedom of speach, you are the Bad Guy! EVERYONE always must consider they could be wrong in their beliefs, that includes you. The difference between a Belief and a Fact is Science!

@jorgepeterbarton You cut down all rainforest. oxygen is depleted by animal respiration and biological polymerization with carbon (from carbohydrates) to CO2. CO2 increases and plants in places other than the rain forest require less water and proliferate. the increased plant life alters the surface temperature and attracts the rain to fall there more than when it was barren. where ever you make change, earth adjusts somewhere else to maintain balance.

Theory vs fact...if we were to take all the bullcrap politics and apply our efforts into science and educate people about what changes as well as adjustments we need to commit to, would we have a chance? Reality is we (all of us) are fucking it all up, time to debate or time to educate? Let's make some decisions, now.

@lostbuffalo what's your scientific basis for this? perhaps naturally increasing co2 would be equalled out, like in the Gaia theory scenario. But we intervene in those systems, we also cut down the trees that do that job, we risk the microbiology in the ocean and we farm cattle and ensure there's always more livestock. Those who look at a system you've described actually give a much worse picture for the future than the average climate change model like introducing a feedback loop that spirals

@GrooveInYourOwnTime What caused the medieval warm period? The Holocene maximum, etc. And by the way, temperatures plummeted up until the mid 1970s. Some scientists at the time were even saying we might be heading for another ice age. Don't get me wrong, I wish we could stop using fossil fuels tomorrow, but climate is driven by the sun. And to me taxing carbon will mean that we will NEVER get off of fossil fuels. The revenue generated will be just too good for governments to give up.

@lostbuffalo anything is a pollutant if you add to much of it. Dump a lot of salt in a fresh water lake and watch the fish die. Yes Plants need Co2 but when you produce it faster than plant life can process it you get excess which in turn creates the greenhouse effects. It wouldn't matter if we weren't also cutting down forests and destroying all the plant life.

@jorgepeterbarton I can tell when people don't have a mastery of something just by the words that they use. they use street or pop venacular to try to describe things beyond their understanding. Most of what you hear when people talk about "science" is opinion and feelings. They use the word "science" itself as an excuse much like people use "and such" and "stuff" when they don't really know what they are referring to but want to talk more about something that isn't there
