Hi Greg. I AM a doctor. Of course I do not know many things in medicine itself. But I do have a sound understand of physics, biology, and science in general. I feel you are making great efforts at busting some myths there. Yes, some people exploit public ignorance, and it's important to expose them. Thank you for doing that.
@Skepticalstudent454 жыл бұрын
Hi Dr. Bam, glad to see someone in the comments fixed on the pursuit and dissemination of objective truth. I understand you are likely quite busy, but I am interested to see if you have any points made here that Greg didn’t fully expound on. For example (please feel free to elaborate on anything from the video), do you believe the most important determinate of body composition and/or weight is calories in vs out? I’ve always thought the hormonal response to a given macronutrient is more important than the calorie count. Of course quantity matters too, I’m just interested if you think that the quality is just as, if not more important. Hope to hear back and thank you for your time.

@@Skepticalstudent45 Lets just get this short, there is no one particular response JUST FOR any particular micronutrient, for example in order to play with aldosterone levels you have to play with sodium levels, potasium levels, pH levels and volume levels. Putting that apart you have feedback systems in your body that always try to maintain equilibrium and "normal" levels. Physiology is not easly hacked so it's important in body composition hormone response, yes BUT at least you have a terrible diet or you have endocrine disease or take medication that mess your with your hormones or feedback mechanisms then the change in hormones will not make a significant change because the hormone levels itself they stay within ranges that your body needs. If you move it to upper or lower levels THEN it will not just change your body composition but it will literally make a DISEASE and your body composition is the least of the problems hormons usually cause when going Hyper or Hypo levels.
@justintaylor33364 жыл бұрын
@@Skepticalstudent45 body composition is more the macronutrient than the net calorie. Greg is saying that change in weight is change in calorie. If you want to lose weight simply eat less than you burn. Now if you want to gain muscle while on a caloric deficit, you would have to change your macros around to ensure this, but expect small gains in your muscle. This is why body composition changes take time as in years, while weight loss itself can be rather quick (1-2 lbs a week is healthy, any more than that and you are losing water not fat).

@Aaron Stubbs I don't think Greg ever pushes a high carb diet. He states eat less calories than you burn, doesn't matter what you eat, he often states that you need to just eat low calories foods that keep you from feeling hungry ( hence his big bowls of salad or popcorn). Most studies disagree with your statement though, keto is not better for FAT loss (actually slighly worse) but better for quick weight loss (ie faster water drop). See summary here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZazp5hmYp2KZqs

@Aaron Stubbs Yes, in 2018. Lost 31#'s, 13#'s of muscle... Not a good trade off seeing how hard it was for me to gain muscle. Doesn't sound like you tracked it, but good progress overall. Losing fat is easier the higher % of BF you are (like you were), but at the cost of muscle is not the result I wanted, bet neither did you. I do find it hard to believe you lost eating more calories than you burn (likely exercise or you were eating negative calorie foods instead, also meal timing matters apparently based on studies) Fat is easier to become fat as your body doesn't have to transform it; also, it has been demonstrated in based on aggregate data of individual participant data analyses, that most people lose more FAT on a balanced diet while on a calories deficit, not because they ate more fat. See min 4 of the video, maybe you are the outlier? You do you though! whatever works best and you can keep doing!

@Aaron Stubbs Keto is the worst diet to do, because it is not maintainable. There's a reason why you lose 60 pounds in 4 months but the gain 80 after you go off the diet. Your body is so hungry for carbs and calories which will make you gain all the weight you lost from your diet previously. Go in a 500 calorie deficit, you will not lose weight as quickly as keto, but it will be maintainable. The point of dieting is to be healthy, keto is not healthy.

Man I have a lot of years of working in the IT field, which tends to be very technical. But one of the biggest recurring themes I've noticed is that people who have SOLID knowledge and understanding are capable of, and tend to use the smallest possible words to describe what they're trying to say in order to make sure anyone can understand them. Breaking complex issues down into simple solutions is the most effective way to fix problems. On the other side of the spectrum, people that lack the most knowledge use the biggest words (that often times they themselves don't actually know the meaning of) in an effort to sound as if they are qualified.

Anyway, keep it up Greg, you're awesome!

Great analysis Greg, so, get this. My cousin is a medical doctor and a licensed Personal Trainer. We are always debating about his videos and whether Thomas knows what he's talking about. My cousin did notice that lately he looks super shredded, dry and extra big biceps. I think you are right.
@jamescerini69932 жыл бұрын
You do realise that Thomas has a Masters Degree in Human Bioscience, don't you? So you should probably tell your cousin to pull out a notebook and start taking notes from what Thomas has to say. He will know more about how the human body works and the chemical processes in our bodies than your cousin does. Thomas is also a huge man and he is easily still within his natty genetic profile. If he was taking any kind of gear he would be a monster.

@Rupert Hawthorne Reasons why haters hate you: They need to put others down in order to feel better about themselves. They are unhappy with their own life. They need attention. You have something that they don’t. They have nothing better to do in life. Their life just ain’t as great and exciting as yours. They are, in general, just losers. Haters don't really hate you. In fact, they hate themselves because you're a reflection of what they wish to be. If you don't have any haters probably you're doing something wrong.

I suspect he has a soprano voice pitch as his balls will be the size of sultanas.

@jamescerini69933 жыл бұрын
In answer to your question, I know exactly what I am talking about. Working out fasted is a very common practice which works and tiny portions of food keeps you in a caloric deficit. If you think that that had anything to do with your brain being scrambled, maybe you shouldn't have also been taking diet pills at the same time.
@TheSammami3 жыл бұрын

@jamescerini69933 жыл бұрын
@@TheSammamiI watched this stupid video months ago and motivating you is what I want to try and do. Do yourself a favour and ignore people like Greg and then see a dietician before watching all of Thomas's videos again. Thomas is actually qualified in Human Bioscience and Anatomy and Physiology, so the science he uses is all 100% real and peer-reviewed. If you see a nutrition expert first and explain what Thomas is saying and that you need a diet that will work for you, then you will be amazed at the results. You are unique to yourself and what works for me won't work for you. But don't give up, because you can only fail if you fail to try. I'm in Australia and if you want to do a skype or whatsapp video call to keep your motivation levels up, just say so and I will help you however I can.

I will say this... I noticed that when I upped my salt intake with my meals that I experienced getting fuller quicker and for a longer period of time. The body has no way of telling you that you are low on salt so it’s possible that it uses “hunger” as a cue to indirectly consume salt via food.

By unsubscribing from the channel, you're only limiting yourself. You should subscribe to this channel, his channel and many more so you can see everything that's out there. If you only find reason to subscribe to one channel than do everything they say than you'll never learn to discover what actually works best for you.
