A class D integrated amp with a Toroidal transformer.
Just a note this is a “Hybrid D Class” amplifier rather than just D Class.
The combination of D Class tech with a linear power supply is of their own design.

I don't know about the details but I did ask the distributor of Cyrus where was it made and they told me England. (I just confirmed it is made in England and to be consider as made in England, it means the majority of the components have to be made in England.)If you look at the comments from a lot of youtube videos, you will see for some people, a local made product is important to them so I think it is important to mention. I don't think it is right to group all asians together and I never mystify or think local made products will automatically sound better. If anything, the fact that I have experience with so many product has already showed me it makes zero difference where it is made.

I did recommend you this before. You need a separate power supply for every poweramplifier you add or if you add monoblocks. So 4 poweramplifier will require 4 powersupply. Even a CD player will require powersupply. That's pure 100% signal path that doesn't interfere with main mother board.

Thank you for the review. Another "All In " solution, is the just arrived AUDIOLAB 6000A Play. It has one thing that others does not have. You can switch From all in to preamp that switches the inbuild power amp off. So you can drive some pair of speakers, maybe for tv with the audiolab, and when you switch you can use as preamp for your tube or other amp. It also can be used as Line out but then the inbuild power amp is still on.

"I" really like the mellow LED's, it would be a bonus in my smaller room. Not too bright. For the cables that I use the rear panel would work just fine. Like that is has those pre-outs. Nostalgia attack here Thomas! My first HiFi amp was the first Cyrus one. I built a Russ Andrews external PSU for the power amp section. The Cyrus two at the time had the option of a Cyrus XPSU and the circuit boards were the same, so I modded my amp....and the clipping at higher volumes went away. This latest version has a torroid almost the same size as the one I built! Thanks for the review:-) PS looking again: my torroid filled the full width of the case. The 4 DNM caps and polypro bypass caps most of what was left:-D

Thomas it’s funny that you would be talking about integrated amps because I just picked up a Rotel RA-1572 for a bedroom system and I have not had an integrated amp in decades. I’m shocked how much that they have changed and all of the features, like the Bluetooth,Aptx standard, it actually sounds okay. Class A/B and 120 watts in 4 or 8 ohms continuous. I have never owned a Rotel product., but the deal that I got it for puts it at 300.00 less than the Cyrus. Normal price would have been 500.00 more than the Cyrus. I almost bought an Arcam SA-20. The Rotel is just loaded with features including pre-out, and the ability to turn on when a particular source is turned on and playing from stand by. I bought this for a pair of bowers and Wilkins CM5, bookshelves, which sound great with it probably because of the close relationship that bowers and Wilkins has with Rotel being the distributer.

Note: When you employ a class D circuit in the amp, it's Class D. Just biasing or adding other circuitry does not make it another class like A/B. Lyngdorf, Rogue audio and others use hybrid circuits. What that does, is improve the treble above 15khz vs pure class D. Class D amps are noisy and vague above 15khz as measured. This "vague" treble manifests in a softer/diffuse tube-like sound vs class a/b. Manufacturers like Class D audio, Crown, Nuforce etc... all have the same vague treble. Good sounding amps, but lacking on top for me.

T’hans for the review. Doing the right mix of objective data with personal perceptions and taste is far from easy but it’s definitely a must in this field and you definitely master it. Regarding this amp, do you consider a reasonable match for the pmc db1 gold you praised on another review (for a desktop near field)? Would you rather consider the ls50w in such environment? Thanks a lot in advance.

Hmm , for me in nearfield, the PMC DB1 Gold is amazing. It worked ok when I tried it on my desk, more full sounding when compared to the Yamaha WXA50. If you prefer a bit of leaner sound, then the WXA50. LS50w, I never tested it nearfield so I don't know.

Since I have a hybrid 2 ch and home theater system the Bel Canto is my compromise The other 2 were good, but not as mind blowing like the Luxman or the Bel Canto which was fresh out of the box! Thanks, trying to learn about amps. One thing I hope gets attention and never does is useability of home theater systems. Ie. Switching back and forth between lots of stuff when home theatre is combined with a high end stereo system. I like watching screen when stereo plays, but this is very challenging to do. Marantz avr does it but very restrictive, an audiocontrol processor appears to offer more flexibility but still complex. The horrors of HDMI combining vid and audio, and cec problems we all know about. This is an important issue.

I own this unit. When I pair it with my ProAc Tablette 10s, I was never really satisfied. It always sounded a tad thin and lacking in sparkle. When I pair it with my Amphion Argon 3S though, the sound has more presence -- more "meat on the bone" and overall more engaging. Granted my Amphions have larger woofers, but I don't think that has too big an effect on the results. The built-in phone stage, while sounding good, is edged out by my Schiit Mani, which has a better sense of space and sounds more 3D. It's not a gaping difference, but definitely discernible by most people I would think.

@@manu_le_maboulit's important to recognize that high frequency axial response is not the only contributing factor. Having consistent and smooth power response (ie insignificant amplitude deviations across its radiating bandwidth, 0-180*) will lend itself to an increased level of detail as the free-field response of any monitor (or loudspeaker for that matter) is the vector summation of the axial response as well as all reflecting surfaces. In traditional alignments, high frequency extension is achieved (easy enough with an EQ), but flat power response up to 20khz (even 10khz) is not. Often times, you will be several db down (>10dB) at >60* wrt the distribution of midrange and lower treble energy. Live sound is consistent in its distribution of energy and so should your loudspeakers. If high frequency extension is your goal, may I recommend ribbon transducers by Raal. Although they will require proper integration into your existing studio monitors, you can't just slap them into a setup like you may be able to with a super tweeter.

@@manu_le_maboul have you ever listened to SACD , that's where it helps. I like to know hear and know what's being played in on a music. There are hidden instruments which you can't hear unless you have device that goes over 20khz. Like in orchestra, there are over 40 people with 40 different instruments playing. Some at the front middle side back rear upper front lower front far left basement first floor. , there all over the place. When everyone starts to play, no speakers below 20000khz can pinpoint what instruments are playing. When I listen to music, I want to know the truth. Youve never been in a recording studio, so you won't no? Above 20000khz, you can hear wispers syliva pindrop. I like to analyse the whole music, you don't care what's going into the music and coming out. You're more concerned about vocals. Well the extreme difficult composing music. Voice is just 1 person, vs instruments 40 person. That's where super fine microscopic details come in above 20000khz.

Hi Thomas can the smoth top end of your vintage speakers be because the tweeters are simply old? I´m currently building custom speakers with one local handy speakerbuilder. He told me after he changed the 5 year old Scan Speak D3004/6600 (it was a demo and heavily used): This was not the first time that the tweeter wasn´t so detailed and let´s say smooth maybe even rolled off after it gets old. This could be the problem of the textile diaphragm when the resin came old and simply can´t be as hard as new one. Really interested in your opinion. Thx for a great work.

If you find the Evo 4.2 too smooth, the Spout 100 will spice things up. If you enjoy the smoothness and want more, the Cyrus. Keep in mind the Cyrus is a higer end product and that is reflected in the price. With the Sprout 100, you can return it so worth trying. It reminds me (in looks) of early Naim amplifiers. It has the same kind of appearance even though the Naim sound is very different from what you're describing Thomas. How then this amp would compete (in sound) with the smallest Hegel amp that, I believe, is similarly priced and offers an inbuild DAC?
@ThomasAndStereo
@ThomasAndStereo 4 жыл бұрын
For me, the Hegel is smooth and more polite. Given it is class AB, it has more body in the midrange so it is a completely different sound. I only had try the Hegel H300 and H200 and those cost significantly more than this unit. So the basic sound characteristic is different and should not be really compared. Just that relative to the other class D amps I tried, it felt different.

In terms of pure amplification, my latest sub-$50 (plus $25-30 for an suitable SMPS) Aiyima A07 Class D power amp outperforms the One HD by miles. Add a decent $100-200 DAC, e.g. the latest from Topping = Done -- at a tiny fraction of the cost. There is zero audible advantage to using a linear vs. a switch mode power supply with a Class D amp as long as both can source the same amount of current with suitably low ripple -- IOW IMO, the "hybrid" approach is mostly marketing balderdash. FWIW, I use my A07 with a pair of slightly modded, somewhat vintage (circa 1990) JBLs.
@ThomasAndStereo
@ThomasAndStereo 4 жыл бұрын
Hopefully I get to try that Aiyima one day. I don't think it will outperform this One HD by miles but I will not be surprised it performs really well for the price. For example, how does it differ with this ONE HD in terms of top end extension? Or how does it compared if we talk about the muscularity and speed of the bass. What music track was used to evaluate the difference? I have been getting more budget class D amps recently and I know they are great. In fact, I can pinpoint exactly how this One HD compared to the DIY $300 class D poweramp I recently reviewed. In some areas, I have to say the DIY does better but I would not say in every area.
@editorjuno
@editorjuno 4 жыл бұрын
@@ThomasAndStereo -- Fair enough. The little Aiyima beats the One HD "by miles" in the basic, measurable stuff like power and THD+N. I'll leave the subtler factors to subjective reviewers like yourself, but I can testify that to my (admittedly aging) ears it sounds considerably better in every resoect than the two supposedly outstanding Class AB power amps I previously owned, a Kenwood KM-8002 from the 1970s and a classic Nelson Pass designed Adcom GFA-535, both of which were much, much larger and far more expensive in inflation-adjusted $USD..

I thought maybe hybrid amp will be some solution to it, to keep tube sound in the system and giving me some transitor features, but Unfortunatly despite the fact that sphinx has the tube pre amplifier- it failed. Well I completely get where you are coming from and the way I explained it in the past is think of it as different kind of food. We have our preferences but we should also learn to enjoy other type of food. It takes getting used to, like eating spicy food for the first time. So I always advice people, when you audition something new, just put away your old gear and spend a few weeks with the new gear and see what the strength of that new gear is, you might discover something unexpected.
