I had forgotten that Elton had played at Live Aid (such is the hype (rightfully) around other artists' performances on the day. Stumbled upon this after going down a rabbit hole. Total respect to Sir John. Consummate professional. I played in bands for many years so appreciate what technical malfunctions can occur (including our lead singer almost being electrocuted to death on stage!). All that playing out on a global stage. Elton mate, you are an absolute legend ❤

Also the backup singers were totally off key at 2:02 on the harmonies on the first chorus and there was too much feedback on the microphones. There were a lot of flaws on this performance of I'm Still Standing. First off, some of the musicians played in the wrong key on the start of the first verse. First- A couple of band members played it a A minor instead of Bbm. Probably because they couldn't hear their monitors. Second of all the vocal harmonies were off key on the first chorus. Listen to the backup singers at 2:02. It is totally off key. And third- There was a lot of feedback on the microphones. No wonder Elton was not too happy about his performance at Live Aid. Not his fault nor the band's fault. The sound crew sucked big time!

damien johnstone i think ariana grande has good vocals but, i don’t really like female singers ( nothing against us women ) but i just hade the high pitch voice girls have, i like to listen to more dark voices like mirian gold ( even though he kinda have a pretty high voice i still love him ) i think most music thsese days sounds the same, boring, to me lyrics doesn’t matter, i’m all about the music itself, and nowdays singers want their lyrics to be deep and have a meaning, instead of focusing to make it catchy, i could sit all day and listen to 80’s music, i’m obsessed, even though i was born 2005, i think i was born 20 years later haha, but yeah i can check out her song, but i’m sure i won’t like since i don’t like female singers x)

stupid comment about the background singers supposedly being gay, does that include Kiki Dee? -unlikely! My name is Tony Rivers and I am certainly not gay. And nor are any of the other three male singers. The next one to me is Mick Clarke from the Rubettes, then Alan Carvell. All of us singers are singing whatever the vocal arrangement determines. The reason we are in shorts is because it was roasting heat in the afternoon, and being Beach Boys fans, it was the right thing to do. Get a life!

I’d heard that this occurred because Queen’s sound guys had removed the limiters to make Queen a bit louder than the others, it was clear that they’d stolen the show so far so Elton said he wanted it even louder and they pushed it a bit further but as a result it caused these problems. Up until Queen there had been very little feedback problems, and they themselves experienced it when switching guitars in Crazy Little Thing Called Love. One-upmanship and and that.

One advice for everyone here, don't compare music. There's no point. Everyone has their own taste thus there will appear useless discussions and arguing to the point, appearently, where ppl just tell you to fuck off. Instead take something from it, the melody, the lyrics the meaning. Also you may regret shitting on some artists in the future. When you don't like a song or a singer think about how you may like it in the future. That way I avoid creating negative thoughts towards them.
