don't know if its intentional but sometimes when she sings "do you wanna see the west with me" it kind of sounds like "do you wanna see the worst of me", which is a little chilling, especially with what happens later on in the album... 😨
@ericamakowski789
@ericamakowski789 Жыл бұрын
i think it's absolutely intentional, i only recently started hearing it as "the west" but i think it's honestly for the best that both of those interpretations are easily heard, it makes for a better listen and a more --thorough-- song. Is she talking about her own downfalls and low qualities, the worst of the western US, or the worst of her partner? lots to think about...

One thing I wasn't sure if it was intentional or not, but the line "Do you wanna see the West with me?" has something funny going on with it. The first time she sings it, it's clear as ever. Second time, little muddy but you know it's the same. But the THIRD time when he's "shooting his shot" it sounds like she's singing "do you wanna see the worst of me?" Again, not sure if it's on purpose or not, but if it is: GENIUS foreshadowing 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Thoroughfare Lyrics [Verse 1] You fell in love with America when you were 12 years old And by 17 you knew you had to see it all You loved your dad and the love he had for your mother so You had to get out and go chasin' it's sweet call [Verse 2] I met you there in Texas somewhere on the thoroughfare On the side of the road in some torn up clothes with a pistol in my pocket I didn’t trust no one but you said "Baby, don’t run, I’ll take you anywhere" So I hopped right in, outta luck to spend, and at least your truck beats walking [Chorus] And you said "Hey, do you wanna see the west with me? Cause lovе's out there and I can’t leavе it be" And I said "Honey, love's never meant much to me But I'll come with you if you're sure it's what you need" [Verse 3] So we made off for California to find your lover, driving day and night And every small town diner saw our faces at least once or twice But in these motel rooms, I started to see you differently Cause for the first time since I was a child, I could see a man who wasn’t angry [Verse 4] And he said “It's been a long damn time since I left Florida, no one left to leave, no one left to love But now that I met you, I finally know just where I’m headin'” And we found heaven in time where your western sunshine met my deep southern wet And you got lost in it and yet you found yourself hard pressed for air and sweatin' [Chorus] And you said "Hey, do you wanna see the west with me? (Do you wanna see the west with me?) Cause love's out there and I can’t leave it be" (I can’t leave it, I can’t leave it) And I said "Honey, love's never meant that much to me (Nothing much) But I'll come with you if you're sure it's what you need" [Bridge] Once we reached the coast you said "End of the line, we finally hit the edge, after all this time I didn't find my love but I still made it this far without it" But then you turned to me and stared into me deep and said "But maybe not, cause look at what I've got You might not be my love, but, baby, I doubt it" [Chorus] And you said "Hey, do you wanna see the west with me? Cause love's out there and I can’t leave it be" And I said "Honey, love's never meant much to me But I'll come with you if you're sure it's what you need" [Outro] Cause in your pickup truck with all of your dumb luck is the only place I think I’d ever wanna be [Tambourine- and scat-led jam session]

I’m not sure if any one person inspired you to write those lyrics, and I’ve always felt music in my soul. You wrote about my james. He is the love of my life. I’m swallowing my cry as I try to write this! He is a disabled Veteran and he was a little soldier from the time he could walk. He served 20 years in the US Army, was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan 3 times and he was the best soldier anyone could ask for. Infantry, the front line, 11 Bravo, a Grunt! War does some terrible things to the mind. You see we weren’t made to witness trauma like that. It’s just something the human mind was never programmed to endure. And when we do it leaves lasting imprints in the mind. I see it! Our lives will never be the same again. When the struggle is too much , it’s hard to hide it. This song was written about the love of my life. He struggles every day to come to terms with what haunts his mind.! I played him this song and the moment he heard it he sat and stared at the ground and listened to every word. This song touches my soul. Thank you to all the men and women that served in OEF/OIF!

to me, this is Ethel's version of LDR's Venice Bitch, and not just because they're both "long" tracks. I just feel like they were both trying to say the same thing but in very very different ways. LDR has been my favourite artist for 10 years and now I'm staring to fall in love with EC. I feel like they have similar messages. If they collab that would be ethereal. this song is a fucking masterpiece.

Lyrics: You fell in love with America when you were 12 years old And by 17, you knew you had to see it all You loved your dad and the love he had for your mother so You had to get out and go chasing its sweet call I met you there in Texas, somewhere on the thoroughfare On the side of the road in some torn up clothes with a pistol in my pocket I didn't trust no one but you said, "Baby, don't run, I'll take you anywhere" So I hopped right in, outta luck to spend, and at least your truck beats walking And you said, "Hey, do you wanna see the west with me? 'Cause love's out there and I can't leave it be" And I said, "Honey, love's never meant much to me, oh But I'll come with you if you're sure it's what you need" So we made off for California to find your lover, driving day and night And every small-town diner saw our faces at least once or twice But in these motel rooms, I started to see you differently, oh 'Cause for the first time since I was a child, I could see a man who wasn't angry And he said, "It's been a long damn time since I left Florida, no one left to leave and no one left to love But now that I met you, I finally know just where I'm heading" And we found heaven and time where your western sunshine met my deep southern wet And you got lost in it and yet, you found yourself hard-pressed for air and sweating And you said, "Hey, do you wanna see the west with me? (Do you wanna see the west with me?) 'Cause love's out there and I can't leave it be" (I can't leave it, I can't leave it) And I said, "Honey, love's never meant much to me (nothing much) But I'll come with you if you're sure it's what you need" (what you need) And once we reached the coast you said, "End of the line We finally reached the edge after all this time I didn't find my love, but I still made it this far without it" And then you turned to me and stared into me deep And said, "Well, maybe not, 'cause look at what I've got You might not be my love, but baby, I doubt it" And you said, "Hey, do you wanna see the west with me? (Do you wanna see the west with me?) 'Cause love's out there and I can't leave it be" (I can't leave it, I can't leave it) And I said, "Honey, love's never meant that much to me, oh (nothing much) But I'll come with you if you're sure it's what you need, oh" 'Cause in your pickup truck with all of your dumb luck Is the only place I think I'd ever wanna be
