I keep getting asked about this, so I give my answer in this video.
To summarize, I don't really have an opinion on whether or not people should experiment with abstinence. It's entirely up to the individual.
However, I HAVE noticed that people approach it in different ways, some with much more success than others.
Some essentially refrain from any kind of sexual activity, but still let their minds to dwell on those thoughts. Not to mention that it's hard to avoid the hypersexuality in media (sex sells, as they say). The idea is to channel the sexual frustration you have into productivity or some kind of life improvement.
While it's debatable whether or not this approach has merit, it DOES seem to result in the significant side-effects. Anecdotally, I notice a preoccupation with sex, extreme aggression, and moodiness with individuals that go down this path.
And more interesting (and more difficult) approach, in my opinion, is to abstain from sexual thoughts. This seems to be the approach taught in some monasteries and religious practices. This develops less frustration and also gives us the benefit of training our minds to focus on what we choose, not what we are given.
Anyway, as usual, that's just my opinion. Like I said at the beginning, you can choose to abstinent or not. I respect your choice either way. I'm not recommending one over the other.
Hope everyone is doing well!

Monday's video was delayed for kind of a silly reason. I had about 2 hours to film before the sun set, and I cut my finger on a piece of broken glass. It was nothing serious, but I couldn't move around too much without reopening the wound and dripping blood everywhere. By the time it was healed enough, the sun had set, haha. Blame it on my clumsiness. Today, I had to choose between doing this video or a 59-second video on knee pain. I went with this, but the knee pain video will be filmed later today!

it might sound weird but if you get a cut, superglue it. I've done this for years and it keeps it from opening up, and it heals faster.

I'm in a similar way and I agree 100%! Now I understand what 'free' means in a much deeper way. Sexual urges and our all-consuming pursuit thereof (to prove ourselves or... what?) can really chain you up. Feels good knowing I can look for a wife and treat women as such and not, as you say, a play thing.

@ObsessedAwe
@ObsessedAwe 3 жыл бұрын
@@blanqui2040 I wouldn't say so, but I think many people are (I was) completely unbalanced by just trying to get laid. That was my measure of success. For me the best way of getting back in balance was completely removing that from the equation. And just from my experience it feels really good, I don't want to go back. Obviously when I find a girlfriend and we have dated for a few months (at least) I can review that, but casual sex (including getting handsy etc.) is a no thanks from me.
@blanqui2040
@blanqui2040 3 жыл бұрын
@@ObsessedAwe I do understand that. My point is it should not be necessary to go from one extreme to the other, and it is dangerous to mistake a sexually active life with using sex inappropriately or being addicted to it. I believe that neither should be claimed because society would end up bringing "shame" to the one that is stigmatised and not claimed or "trendy". I have been within organised religion and this issue is something they always use to vindicate their beliefs, for example. Everyone should be able to live the lifestyle they choose, free from judgement. If we got rid of all the taboos about sex no one would live a life in which "the more I get laid, the more successful I am". Sorry for my English

I miss the intimacy, but learned that the "now let's go be alone together" bit was a dangerous mindset. All of my best relationships actually led me to engage with people more and doubled my circle of friends. The ones that weren't so great usually revolved around staying in every single weekend. I could do that with the former when nothing else interested us that weekend, and it was pleasant, but not healthy when it stopped being the exception.

@@theconcaver9186 like i said, this would rather be a topic for scores of books, not comments. All i can say: Good and Evil are not the same as Matter-Antimatter duality and doesn't have much in common with it, as this is the only certain duality, you eother try to claim something you actually can't or you confused some things. Going further, good and evil is a deeply philosophical concept that doesn't have a ultimate definition, it means so many different things to different people and even to those, who define it equally, this still opens up further discussions about what can be deduced from the used definition and even this is a still ongoing, probably never finally resolved , topic of debate. You can't make such absolute claims about things that are to complex for humans to even get close to anything resembling an actual agreement on this topic.

I made a vow of Celibacy, which I upheld for about 2.5 years. Longer than some, shorter than others. It was difficult for Me. I met a man that hadn't been with anyone for 9 years; by 2.5 years I was suicidal. I lost a lot of Joy. I happened to be doing this mostly while I was traveling, and missed out on opportunities that would have led to Friends and Lovers and memorable moments. Without romance (and sex) as a motivating factor, sometimes I would commit to worthwhile endeavors (intensely training instead of going to a bar, for example) but sometimes I would simply lack any serious motivation at all, and sink towards depression. It was often one or the other, so I ended up experiencing a lot of social ostracization, either by choice, or because I was kind of sad and I don't think people wanted Me around. So there were many Lonely Nights, and aside from a special week with someone which ended the 2.5 years (4 months ago at the time of this writing) the stacked up Loneliness still lingers in my Heart, and I Do Feel Desperate to find a Lover, whom I am now seeking. However, the endeavor made me a stronger person, more in control of myself, and I learned about myself where as I would never have known. I learned my limits (and pushed them). I learned what I Need to be fulfilled, content, and happy. And perhaps most importantly, I learned what I *Need.* So knowing all this, and having the strength to control myself, I can now seek that out, avoiding (as in, becoming platonic friends/Brothers with) whom I perhaps *Want* but know that I do not *Need.* So compared to many men, it really wasn't that long a time at all, though I was working very hard every day during that time (rode my bicycle across the country, wrote a book, etcetera) so that made the endeavor quite the struggle for Me, having that reward denied, but somehow having to keep going every day. It was a Lonely Road, but absolutely worthwhile, and I would encourage every man to make similar strides towards self-growth. Love is the Light at the End of the Tunnel. I *Need* that, with the Right person, and now I know what that looks like, and I am ready to receive it.

It is so great to see so much positivity! One thing I would like to add though is that we cannot control our thoughts. Thoughts come and go on their own. As such, it is quite impossible not to ever think sexual thoughts. The important thing is simply that one does not indulge them. Simply notice them, and then let them go. It is also important not to resist them though, as this just creates more tension in the mind. Have a healthy, happy day!

This is a really good video Hampton. My 2 bits is that sex is a natural thing, we shouldn't be afraid of it, that does more harm than good. However, everything in moderation. Everything. On top of this, making your personality about the sexual experiences you have is generally a sign that you don't have much else going on and you may be weak of character if these are with many different people. I'd say, and doctors seem to agree, that sexual activity on a regular but restrained basis with a life partner is a very healthy thing.

Great work Hampton! Namaste! Whenever we learn about Yoga or Spirituality about abstinence it is always about the thoughts and not about actions. Hindu Spirituality advises about a *Weekly fast* where you must consume food only once a day to resist your primary urges. This not only develops control over your mind but also helps in honing in your meditations. Even before Sex our first urge is Food, if you can resist that urge Sex will be a bit easier. P.S. - Fast is broken even if you get one single thought about Food. *Try Again* It is like playing a Video Game with your own Mind; if you can beat it, you win the Game.

Don’t mean to rain on your parade, but I hope you two have talked about sex. Like how often do you think you’ll want it. What kinda stuff do you want tp do? Does one want bjs, but the other doesn’t wanna do it etc. basically, do you think you’re compatible sexually. I’ve seen too many stories of people waiting, and then they find nothing works in the bedroom. A classic is one person isn’t really interested in sex at all (hence why waiting wasn’t so difficult for that person). Just make sure you’re on the same page, and don’t just assume it’ll function.

You can care deeply about a person in a respectful way and also want to rip their clothes off and do ‘em- have we all forgotten how to keep the lizard brain from running our lives? Not every sexual thought has to be acted upon, and to deny oneself the pleasure of such thoughts is ridiculous to me.

I've watched a few of your videos now and they are good but how you handle this subject is how a therapist would handle it. A guide to answer the question yourself instead of giving your direct thought as a focus of the explanation. This or going of empirical evidence are probably the only two ways to go about this which are actually helpful. I also really liked your explanation as of why you don't answer questions like this on stream... and this is how I found out you are streaming as well. You sir, have a new subscriber

Ayo, can we just take a moment and appreciate how Hampton just sits around, without a manager or someone, and just replies to us and talks to us! He's being very generous. And to tell you, it takes a lot to reply to masses and stuff, because it takes energy. Just like physical intimacy, he decides where and how to share and utilise his time and energy. Much love bro ❤️

Much love to you as well, my friend! I always loved hearing from the content creators I watched, so I try to respond to as many people as I can. I wish I could respond to more.

@@HybridCalisthenics that's very generous and humble of you. I think you also know at core that in real, you are a very good human(yes even when we have space for more, yet you are on right path, with your virtue)

I’m not abstinent and never plan on being but one of the best things I decided to do since getting back into fitness is quitting p**n. I would definitely recommend it for anyone who want to work toward a goal or quit something toxic in their life.

I weight 384 lbs. and I work out because I feed on inspiration and I hunger for change! Weight loss isn’t my goal, developing strong healthy habits are! The weight will disintegrate with how I commit and want to sacrifice! Everyday I repeat this to myself.

Hey there, I noticed how no one else replied to your post. What you are doing is a tremendous step and will mark one of if not the most important decision you made in your life. You yourself know best how difficult that road is but you will (and maybe already did) realize how much happiness and purpose this gives you. Most importantly it will improve your life and make it longer. I've battled with many demons this past year and still am, everyone has their own battle but there are people who make the decision to fight these demons. I wish you all the best and to never lose your motivation, you are doing this for yourself and the people that love you, may you live a long and happy life.

This is so good. I practice abstinence not for health but for spirituality. I noticed since I decided to do this change I really had to change my thoughts in order to feel good. Focusing not just in my actions but also in my mind as you said has made me not anxious or sexually frustrated at all. I actually enjoy this period of my life :) I hope others who are trying to practice this can remember it's important to enjoy these experiences too and don't look at it as something "hard".

Thank you, Hampton, for pointing out the importance of mastery over our thought life. It’s often easy to focus only on the external and ignore what’s going on inside, not realizing how much it affects us.

hope you finished your coffee before it was too late! I loved how you've put this video. Yes, sex is primal, but i feel it would be really great when people have sexual realisation. By that I mean to say, understanding sex and why the urge, it's result and then decide what's good for them. when we spend time thinking about our feelings, we grow as an individual and understand our needs and priorities. I abstain as I feel no need of this consciously as I do not want to add to the population, myself. lots of Love from India
This is how I overcame my depression
