The type of cheater makes a difference, subtle cheaters are going to try and avoid streamers, because they're trying to get easy wins and won't want to get busted

And gamebooters/ddosers. On console, before I ran anonymous mode, I'd get gamebooted once or twice a day on average. On PC I run VPN, so never had that issue there, but it's a real problem as well, because the victim has to suffer through a DC penalty, as well as losing any offerings and bloodpoints from that match

This is the one thing Scott never seems to think about. He says almost no one sees cheaters often, but says nothing about the plague of subtle cheaters. I've had nights where 1 out of every 4 killers had bloodlust 1 speed off the rip, and I have caught survivors running behind a rock on the edge of the map, only to run behind the rock and they are mysteriously gone. I've even caught other random survivors speed hacking back before made for this was nerfed. We weren't even in end game and a survivor unhooked me and we ran off the same direction, and the other uninjured survivor was faster than me with made for this and the enduring speed buff.

There are three things people get out of hacking: 1. A feeling of control 2. A feeling of victory 3. The inverse of satisfaction from making someone's day The fact they're winning trivially doesn't get old because they're playing against people who'll occasionally have rage reactions, and they think it's funny that they can trivially cause problems. Having a sense of control over one's own life isn't super common, so the feeling of having control over someone else's time is intoxicating. A lot of people will power trip the moment they have even the tiniest bit of influence or control over others. Some hackers are just that awful shift manager in a place staffed mostly by highschoolers, or the type of person who runs for HOA chair.

I left a comment on Henz’ video as well but i’ll leave another here to echo another thought i had. I think these cheaters are living miserable lives, and the evidence of that is they’re grown adults who spend their days ruining other people’s games. If you have the time to do that morning and night, you likely dont have a job. Or friends. Or family to spend time with. Or a partner. You’re just sitting at home, stewing in your own misery and need an outlet to give you dopamine. Once you find a reliable source of that dopamine hit your brain craves (for example, you can never lose if you make it impossible to lose), you’ll stick to it until that well dries up.

We just don't see that guy through the computer the same way we see a person when we encounter them in real life. These people are laughing but I don't think they actually truly grasp what they are doing. They kind of get defensive when Hens starts to say that you are ruining someone's life and they get louder and some of them try to say its just for laughs man. I feel like they are the type of people if you were to meet them in public would cower in fear of anyone standing up to them, but their the power of anonymity online they can finally be the strong people they think they are inside. It is literally just about control. It's about being able to take control out of the hands of someone else. Someone expresses they do not wish to have their games hacked, and you hack their games anyway, proving they don't have a choice in the matter? Congrats. You exercised control. That's why they want streamers. They wanna see it. The effect of the control they're enforcing upon another human being. They don't care about being "good" or "bad" people, that's got nothing to do with it. It's just about finding a person, trying to do something, and putting wrenches in the wheel for that person so they cannot do what they're trying to do. This is an extremely common coping mechanism for people who lack a sense of control in their lives. It's also the main driving force behind behaviors like bullying and rape. It's just a different expression.

I randomly get DC’d/disconnected from the internet and it’ll say DBD servers are not responding or you need an valid internet connection, it happens at the most perfect times for the other team whether I’m killer or survivor, I’ve definitely been suspicious of fowl play but after a while I’ve come to the conclusion DBD’s servers are just shiet and unreliable. Last night I had a game where my connection was spotless and my ping was 60MS but I never got hit over a vault once, next game my ping is 40MS and I’m getting hit over vault’s multiple times a game. The games connection almost NEVER feels consistent. I also am not plugged into my router so that probably is a major factor but when I did have the chance to play plugged into the router the difference was not noticeable.

I think the best thing BHVR could do is make it so if there are only bots left, you can DC with no penalty. This would prevent cheaters from working around any sort of detection BHVR might have to make sure that bots can move normally. This way, if the cheaters want to hold someone hostage, they would have to keep someone in the match, or stay in the match if they were cheating by themselves.

I think Hens' main claim of 'taking over the game' is how little power you as a player have to leave a cheater holding you hostage and how the game mechanics/design allow them to consistently hold a player hostage for hours. For example, a cheater in R6 would not be able to waste a player's time as the match would end quite quickly, and if not there are still other measures to take yourself and/or your team out of the game so it ends. This such feature is non-existent in dbd which is lazy and pathetic from BHVR, it is such a simple 'surrender' system that allows players to leave the game after the match has elapsed for X amount of time, it would also help in petty bleedouts/body blocking situations on top of being able to prevent a cheater from holding you hostage for hours.

I feel like the same mentality applies to even some non-hackers: Players who go out of their way to make their opponents' match as miserable as possible, not even for the goal of winning, but just to ruin other people's fun. I've had the pleasure of playing against people like that on either side, and they absolutely will put themselves at a disadvantage or even throw the entire match if it means getting what they want. I checked their profiles afterwards, and some of them had upwards of 300 PAGES worth of complaints, so you just know they get off to that kinda thing. I wouldn't be surprised if those are the kinds of people that eventually end up becoming hackers, because simply annoying people with the tool the game gives you eventually becomes boring.

You can see speed hackers easily because they glide across the map, all you have to do is look at their feet. It's not common, I haven't seen one subtle hacker in 1K hours. I've seen two blatant cheaters. One killer that just insta downed everyone and one survivor that wouldn't allow people to die on hook, holding me hostage as Hag. I haven't seen a single subtle hacker a single time. I've had a couple guesses, but it turned about to be a perk, or just really dumb luck on a dead hard. If you think cheaters are this prevalent in this game, you're being a huge conspiracy nutjob. This game has nowhere near what I'd call a cheating problem. The problem is more than likely you thinking you are better than you are, so all you do is cry wolf whenever someone works you over.
@SpookySkeletonGang
@SpookySkeletonGang 19 күн бұрын
@@ScottJund For sure, but that's a separate issue. What I'm really trying to say is that just based on statistics we've had for other popular online games such as ban numbers, we know roughly how many cheaters there SHOULD be and likely are in a game like DBD, and how subtle cheating is super popular. Most of these people aren't doing anything you'd notice right away no matter how good you are, and the way DBD works you're never really observing anyone for long enough to be able to infer that they're using cheats regardless. So it's this big problem that nobody notices, because it's impossible TO notice. Which sucks because it's hard to convice anyone that cheating is a problem when most people cheating aren't running around like sonic the hedgehog lol. Every now and then you get someone who's bad at keeping it subtle and gives the game away, or someone who warps around and ends the match immediately, but they're outliers in other games and they're probably outliers in DBD.

I feel like cheaters who target streamers do it due to a lack of feeling control in their own lives. If you think about it, it makes sense. Introduce a vote to end system in the pause menu. If there are only the killer and one survivor left it only takes one vote to end and it plays an animation of the killer killing the rest of the survivors. if there are two survivors and one killer it takes 2 to vote yes and so on and so forth. This will require the majority of the lobby to initiate the end of the match. If the killer wants to end match it plays an animation of the survivors escaping through the gate.

"something went wrong" Actually, sometimes it's a difference in values. Personally i like cheating in single player games, because writing my own cheats is plenty fun, and puzzling out the codes architecture is a good skill to develop. I do dislike cheating on multiplayer games, but it's mostly the risk of getting banned. Otherwise I'd probably develop some programs for it and meds around with friends on a private lobby. I don't see the value in wasting other people's time, outside of finding other's frustration funny. But if i want to see that there's plenty of outlets for that where everyone has signed up for it. Dropout's game changers has multiple episodes dedicated to messing with BLeeM for example. Not to mention, among us as a more responsive way to fuck with people.

I think I am familiar with the mentality of a hacker. Everyone would say attention, but that would lead to what? It would lead to them justifying their hate, in order to get sympathy, the more weirdness they were, the more they would express themselves in that manner. It’s like they’re asking for help, but no one is answering them. “Look at me, I am the most miserable guy, I am pretending to be having fun through this, and I am expressing my misery by being the worst”. But in reality, they’re suffering. They would be seeing things in society, that they don’t like, and they are in a mission of sabotaging everything in the game, in order to enlighten the things that they’re experiencing, they’re eating themselves from inside on what they’re experiencing. However, there is someone who just want to “hack” ofcourse, but for the most of those who dedicate such amount of hours, I would say there’s definitely something severely wrong.

I get a shit ton of hackers when i play dbd. I mean 4 per week. Cheaters dont understand that other people have object permanence. Its like oh i walk across map to this gen its at 0 ok ill go to the other side, ooh 3 ppl and then that gen with 1 possible person is insta popped. Also line of site haste hacks. Its insane that surv hackers aren't running distortion more often.

I did a small personal experiment to see how many cheaters I encounter as a mid range mmr survivor. In a sample size of about 200 games, I encountered 2 rage hacking survivors and 1 rage hacking killer. The subtle cheaters were what was way more interesting. I found around 6 total subtle cheating killers while using an iri key with blood amber to watch them counter my double backs through walls with no form of aura reading that could have revealed me. Now in truth their double backs could have just been remarkably well timed but they were usually as though we were at a loop that had no LoS blockers. I think it's most likely smart teenagers/sad adults with nothing better to do during their day.

For anybody wondering as I was playing survivor it was much harder to notice one subtly cheating while I was playing for chases during that period to see what I could find! Maybe I'll do another experiment to report back.

Ive put roughly 300 hours into DBD now and ive only come across 2 hackers that i know of. Both of which got banned. One was a survivor who was legit flying around the map and doing across the map heals, they ended up just helping everyone farm bloodpoints at the end of the day. The other was a bubba that seemed to he a bit too fast when using his chainsaw. Both got reported and both got banned within 72 hours of my report.

I think some content creators (and viewers) can have too narrow of a perspective on things sometimes and that can lead to these kinds of exaggerated statements, even if they mean well. Gotta say though, reading "How Hackers Are Slowly Taking Over This Game" and comparing it to what TF2 dealt with for ages kinda makes me laugh.

Yeah I definitely agree it boils down to how they were socialized growing up or currently socializing bc I doubt a decent chunk of these people are that old. I hate to armchair psychologist them but it could be they feel powerless in their current living situation or they could've been wronged in the past and not gotten over it so their mindset is "if have to suffer then you do too." I definitely agree its interesting to try and figure out how they got to this point where they get enjoyment from just wasting a random streamers time/ruining their stream.

I like how you have mentioned that people that cheat like this must have had something happen to them, most likely. It's the same with most bullies. Sure what the cheaters and bullies do is not excusable and a bad thing. But yes one thing usually has led to the other for them to end like this. And most of the time people tend to forget that cheaters and bullies are also humans. Only caring for the victims. While I agree that the victim should be definitely prioritized when giving a helping hand, one must not forget about the culprit. Especially if they are at a young age. A great movie to watch that really depicts what I try to say is "A Silent Voice", where a bully has do deal with his past actions and develops a certain conscience because of it. Constantly blaming himself. Sadly in cases like these, where people are cheating in videogames, it's not easy to give them that helping hand since cheaters tend to make themselves anonymous; making it too hard to reach out to them or to make any difference at all.

I remember watching daily when Ralph was going through this during the last streamhostage wave, and he'd just sit and wait it out for the 2 hours and kick it with chat. Sometimes he'd get them to give up because he wouldn't react. It's wild how predictable cheaters are. They're products of negligent parents, it's pretty much guaranteed. Hug your kids, folks. Don't let them become multiplayer game cheaters.

They’re still around but it’s seldom these days. Had a cheater in my chaos shuffle the other night of all things, was on an auto haven map. Forget the map off hand that is shaped as a dumbbell. But TLDR, a Meg was working gens under the map, she was injured from a hatchet so she was track able to some degree for me. Heard her on a Gen, go over to her, she’s MIA, can still hear her crying, it’s a dead zone with just a gen. Turn around and she starts working it, turn around again and she’s not there. Repeats a couple times, I quit out To confirm I wasn’t crazy, someone saw them with kindred I guess doing it as well

I do believe it's a control thing. The most perturbing things usually stem around control. The sense of power. The attention they seek. Isn't it funny that a troll usually becomes the most popular person in chat (until banned) for a while by using edgy, shock tactics. They gain the negative attention, knowing they will be rejected and the cycle starts over. It makes no constructive sense. People shouldn't get a "kick" out of, or derive pleasure from negative stimuli, but I guess that's where the question is. The ones that are perpetually active. I think you hit it on the head. It's projection. An urge. It's most likely subconscious to an extent, because most of the time they'll tell you they don't know why they enjoy the nefarious. They will -confidently- tell you that they enjoy it though. It reminds me of the interview of Brad Dourif's character in Exorcist 3. If they used that energy for something positive, it would be so much better for everyone. A little behavioral health therapy --would- probably help. Fingers crossed, I guess.

Scott, you give the hackers way too much credit.There are just some people in this world that want to watch the world burn. This especially applies to the people that hens interviewed in his video.When you can hide the behind the shield of an anonymity It is in human nature to let out all the dark and evil and vile things you hide inside. No one is immune to that temptation, not even you. They are not taking over the game, but they are still a very, very deep-seated plague in the game. Especially considering that the mindset has shifted from blatant to an emphasis on subtle. The reason you don't see it anymore is they have a list of content creators that they purposely blacklist because they know they can't get a reaction out of them. In short, just because you don't see it doesn't mean it isn't happening or isn't valid And yes these people are that level of scum.

From someone who bullied other kids in school It's just learned behavior. They have had similar situations where they have been put down, berated, or humiliated to the point they have to believe that's how the world works. Otherwise, if that's not how the world works, then you're a victim with no control over your life. Attacking people like this reaffirms to them the world is just shitty for everyone, and they feel better about themselves. After years, decades, of unlearning this behavior I sometimes still have the sudden impulse to yell and put someone down if they bother me when I'm having a bad day. Their target is going to be someone who has aspect they have always wanted. This might be gameplay ability, the reaction they get from viewers, or just seeing look happy in general. The more they feel they're really affecting this person negatively the more they're going to push. I think you should feel sorry for them honestly. As long as this remains their outlet they will never be able to recognize opportunities to make it better (if there are any to begin with). They'll never experience the feeling of practicing over and over again to finally overcome an obstacle. It truly is sad to see.

I've reported countless cheaters without video evidence, because even subtle cheaters are fairly easy to spot when you play both sides and know how the game works, and I get so many responses that people I reported were banned. The cheats are rampant and the devs need to focus on their own anti-cheat and stop relying on EAC to cover them.

As someone who has cheated before in games, it's much like people who used to watch those old troll reels, like the ones from Call of Duty. Some people can naturally gain entertainment through seeing people be "trolled." Also, you have to factor in that many, many people don't view cheating as a legitimate job, so they aren't emotionally affected by stifling your income.

The type of cheater I see more often than any other kind are the kind that have found a way to remotely crash a server the moment the match isn't going in their favour. It doesn't happen very often, but any time it does, it's always way, way too convenient. If you've encountered it, you know exactly what I mean. Tackling this kind of cheating should be on the highest priority at BHVR, in my opinion, because finding yourself on the receiving end of winning a match only to have the server conveniently crash, receive no BP, receive no pips, is a very effective way of killing your motivation to continue playing, especially when it was hard fought, when you really feel like you earned that win.

here is the thing, hackers will not go after Otz or Hens due to the support they have behind the screens, if someone with 2k+ gets targeted BHVR would jump on it like there is no tomorrow, since it is about people that have just enough viewers to make a living out of without having enough viewers to put the game in a bad daylight, they will be easier targeted. it is sad that this issue has been in the game since pretty much the beginning of the game, and bhvr has done nothing to safeguard ip"s etc... it should not be up to us to buy vpn services to get rid of specific targeting...

I remember a while ago some hackers, well script kiddies really, saying that they were doing it as "revenge on bhvr" to like, "show how bad their anticheat was"(bullshit excuse), other one i remember was doing it cause bhvr banned them for hacking in cosmetics i think it was Honestly on the last point you mentioned; on a lot being russian, theres something to note there on a cultural difference that applies to most eastern countries, at least game-wise, that i remember talking with folks about this In that in those countries(russia, china, korea, etc...) winning in competitive games is 100% a "everythings valid to win" mentallity, bringing strongest strats/doing it the best you can/cheating even, hell i know on some chinese servers cheating is nearly needed because everyones doing it so you're at a literal disadvantage if you dont cheat Ofc this doesnt mean everyone and all but where we'll see 2 hooking everyone and not tunneling as "well i want a fun match for all but ill still try and win chases and all", they'll see it sensless as to, "why care about the other sides fun, you're supposed to win". Hell i remember before anticamp was included you could tell 80% of facecamping iri head Huntress/Bubbas would've been Russian before the servers divided the queues more
