Hi! This is a completely unplanned video I filmed during golden hour one afternoon (which explains the lighting in this video) in which I update you on my low-buy, share my feelings about shopping, and share some stories about what's been happening in my life lately. I also re-attempt a darker French-inspired smoky eye.

I appreciate your honest thoughts on this! I too go down rabbit holes when I get obsessed with an item (take Dries Van Noten lipsticks, for example!). I'm in my early 60s and had much nicer eyelashes prior to menopause. A couple coats and I was good to go. Now I've struggled to get that same volue I crave and I think I"ve finally found it. Hourglass Unlocked. It's a tubing mascara (no smudging and easy removal) and I love the way it goes on. More buildable than other tubing formulas, such as Victoria Beckham or Mac GigaLash. It's my new go-to, and makes me feel like I still have the lashes I used to have. Good with my contact lenses too!

Hi Janet! Oh yeah, I am very familiar with the Dries van Noten rabbit hole! I will look into Hourglass Unlocked. I've never tried a tubing mascara before! Thank you so much for your suggestion! I am also a contact lense wearer, so this sounds perfect. ❤️

Brittany I love LOVE your honesty! I am the same way, when I do not buy skin care, no make-up I will buy clothes or home decor instead 🥲❤️ Instead of browsing I am going to the gym, looking on videos how to excercise, learning new healthy recepies, maybe this would work for you as well 🫶 I love combination of Loreal mascaras ( Voluminous + Telescopic ) from the drugstore 😘

Exercise would be a good "chew toy" for my brain. I've also been leaning into cooking different recipes from my usual go-tos. I should focus on these more! Why do we love shopping? That is the trillion dollar question. Aside from the allure of clever marketing and the overabundance of beautiful things at every turn (both in real life and in the virtual world), we are wired to seek abundance and gather it. So overcoming the habit of shopping and looking and seeking goes against both our environment and our “programming”. I very much relate to so much of what you’re saying. Especially now that I’m “allowed” to purchase things again. And I’m not sure there’s an easy answer. Spending so much time decluttering is helping me focus on my priorities: having a simplified life with only the items that truly add value to my life. So that has kept me from buying things. But it hasn’t necessarily stopped me from browsing - which is also a sort of meditative recreational activity for me. Just like you, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it, but I’d like to reduce the time I spend doing it because I feel like my life would be richer if I used my time differently. Your description of that massage was so funny! Especially your facial expressions! Your feelings of vulnerability aren’t silly at all - it’s refreshing to hear your thoughts on it all. The whole situation is so relatable.

You bring up so many great points and I completely agree. There's this idea permeating through the air that there is ALWAYS something better and that we MUST acquire it because it somehow equates with more joy and fulfilment. And what makes that more complicated is that while we all know money can't buy happiness, some objects truly do make me feel happy to use on a daily basis! A simplified life with items that truly add value is also my ultimate goal. I'm wondering how I will know when I've achieved that balance as I don't own a lot of things, but shopping occupies a lot of mental space in my mind. Hopefully one day I'll have a successful massage story to tell. 😉 It's so nice to chat with others who can relate to these feelings. Certainly helps me feel slightly less silly. You can also get an LED light mask for your face, lay down for 20 min and listen to some spa music or stand up comedy podcasts as a way to relax at night.

Oh to be rid of shopping thoughts! I'm struggling with that even more at the moment!😓 Like you, it doesn't matter if I'm sad or happy I always find an excuse to shop or at least think about shopping and it's sometimes so exhausting, especially since I'm also the kind of person that once I have what I wanted it's like it loses its appeal and I'm already desiring something else like 20 minutes after making a purchase😅. I definitely need to stop looking at stuff all the time, unsubscribe from quite a few mailing lists, but also like we said before kind of get past the romance, the dream, the illusion, and look at the thing itself through a more objective point of view. I have found that my impulses recently are driven more by a sort of creative desire, so I'm trying to play more with the makeup I have, and when it comes to fashion I'm pushing myself to experiment more with what I have and also make more things for myself, put my 4 years of fashion college to good use haha. Loved the final look, you look stunning and sophisticated, I absolutely love that Ottoman Brown lipstick, it's definitely on my wishlist, I do wish I could pull off more smokey-eye looks, but unfortunately, my eyes are too small and I wear glasses that make them look even smaller😒. I have been struggling to keep it together, not so much for makeup, but just in general at the moment - clothing, decor, body care, fragrance, you name it! That's great that you've pinpointed that your impulses are creatively rooted. It must be so helpful to know that so then you can turn to your collection and scratch that itch (of course, it's not the same as a shiny new thing and the thrill of a purchase, but it's a good substitute!). I'm still getting used to seeing myself with this much eye makeup on sometimes! I am enjoying playing around with different looks, though. The Dries van Noten lipstick in Ottoman Brown is a reliable staple - the perfect "if nothing else works, I'll grab this" colour! ♥️

Omg that price for the Sisley mascara is insane!!! I can relate with your feelings on spending. I had a minimalist collection in 2019 and now my collection has exploded. I love reviewing makeup but it also is anxiety inducing and I hate feeling the pressure to review a product right away. It’s so relaxing watching you at night while I wind down. Also I feel like we are twins as far as shopping habits. I too need to find something else to do while I wind down. That’s why I love watching your videos but I’m almost done with all of them and I need some new material.😂 I love how candid you are about your shopping, and I wish I could trust my circle of people to be honest as well, but they would only get jealous and think I’m bragging. :( have you tried Dior blackout mascara? No one in my friend circle can relate to my shopping habits whatsoever, so it often feels like I'm carrying around this deep dark secret. I love the suggestions you offered for ways to wind down. I've been turning to KZbin and podcasts a lot lately. I also love watching very trashy reality television as I find it provides me some sort of "fix." 😂 I haven't tried that mascara by Dior! I recently purchased my all time favourite, Sisley's So Volume mascara and am really enjoying it again. I'll make a note of that Dior one!

Love the look on you. Shopping is just so dang pleasant that's the problem. They have mastered the art of seduction and appealing to our desire of newness. It is freezing cold where I live currently so I decided to bring out my spring clothes in the attempt to be distracted from browsing online. It works for a while. I wish you well it is hard habit to break. Love the outtakes and thumbnail. I can't imagine posing into a camera and choosing what expression is best. so far, all your thumbnails are getting me to watch. Looking forward to your next video.

I'm commenting late, I did watch this one but my comment deleted when I went to post! I recommend Lancome's Monsieur Big or the Estée Lauder Sumptuous Extreme. It's so hard to stop online shopping for me as well. I loved hearing you share your experiences. Before the internet I always found window shopping to be so relaxing... I'm in a similar conundrum about it all. I feel like I know what you mean about entering the obsessive zone! I'm fine if I can browse in a detached way. My low-buy is going ok... not so well this month. I anticipate not being tempted much of the year besides now (March), June and November which is when the most tempting sales are. I'm working on breaking that sale-shopping mentality. Your smoky eye is looking amazing! Cheyanna, we are soul sisters! I ended up buying the Estée Lauder Sumptuous Extreme mascara, so it's funny that you mention it! I used it a couple of years ago and remember really enjoying it, so I'm not sure why I didn't repurchase it at the time. I'm LOVING using it again! And I'm on the exact same page with my low buy. This month was terrible. I'll confess my sins in my next video, haha. The sales definitely reignite the shopping flame in my brain. Right? Where are the makeup girls on Bumble!? I'm so thankful for KZbin as well! I watched your recent ASMR videos and have been meaning to comment, but I always end up falling asleep! Yes, I heard someone talking about this "but it's limited edition and what if I can never find it again" thing that I feel sometimes - being part of the scarcity mentality... it's made me think! Sometimes sale shopping feels very savvy but sometimes it feels obsessive and fear-based and I want to move away from that. In no way do I want to kill all enjoyment of makeup and shopping though! Hey! You crack me up with your massage stories.. jajjajaaaa. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 The makeup looks amazing! I love the Chanel mascara and normally I use the samples I get every time I order anything on their website. If you don't mind me saying so... I think you are spending a LOT of time neglecting your very nature. I can understand you want to "control" it... but rather than doing that, why don't you try to "dose it". meaning... allow yourself a few minutes x day to online-window shop and then, the rest of the day... have something you can do in stead when you feel the "urge" to shop. Just a suggestion, something to try. To me this is like dieting, the more you do.... the more you crave food... and when you put a stop to the diet... then all hell breaks loose, and you go crazy (or at least I do). 💄🪞👁💄😜

Hi! Thank you so much. So glad you liked the makeup! I really enjoyed the Chanel mascara for the past couple of months, so it's a shame it smudged on me in the beginning! I TOTALLY get what you're saying. I'm definitely struggling to find balance. I don't want to abandon shopping or browsing completely, but I rather want to do it in a way that feels moderate and healthy rather than obsessing and then taking breaks (like the binging you mentioned). I think it's more of a mentality thing. Hopefully I can develop some sort of mental balance over the next little while as I exercise these muscles a bit more. 😉 I hope you are doing well!
