They just arrested a casw manager about a month ago with her daughter they had spent over 100K in food stamps using much of the food to have a side hustle selling dinners, seafood boils. See if you have propel it's a app that you can attach to your card it might be another name for the app in your state but I'm in Michigan and I went to Tennessee and I couldn't use my card so I called the number on the card and I already had the propel app on my phone so the showed me that my card was locked from being used in a different state so he showed me how to turn the feature off and on when you, I hope this helps!!

I just made a comment where I saw a video a few weeks ago where 2 women were arrested for this ~ the mother actually worked for that department ! You can bet there are more than these 2 doing this . Don't forget the gas pumps. Twice my twin sister's debit card was hacked(that the correct term?) bank advised an "alert" on her phone. It happened again and because of the alert notification she was able to stop her checking account being put on "hold". She did once again had to cancel another debit card and be issued another one. She has it but won't use it now. This is the very reason I will not have a debit card. It's cash or check(grocdery store) only

Someone got the bank routing and account number off of one of my MIL’s checks, printed checks with that information but different fictitious names that they had fake ID’s for and wrote checks all over the place. It took MONTHS to get her money back after the bank investigated. Cash is best, or credit card that you can dispute. Don’t give anyone direct access to checking or savings accounts. Thieves everywhere. 😤

It might not be the store owners. You'd be surprised how many security cameras have picked up people distracting the store clerk and snapping a skimmer on the card machine. They're crafty buggers. But it's a sign of the times that people are desperate and greedy, preying on the needy.

Call me paranoid, but I've always been leary of the overhead security cameras as well when using my debit or credit cards at ANY PLACE. Oh yes, they can zoom in regardless of what management says. I keep my card info hidden with my hand as much as possible because with a chip reader, your card either sticks up or out. Don't even have the information exposed while waiting in line. At one of our stores that used to have the keypad cover, it was said that many seniors in particular had an issue with those rubber things so they got new keypads WITHOUT the covers I actually liked when they had covers because at least you had some level of privacy Anytime you go to type in a pin, you should still be using your hand as a cover anyway No matter what kind of card you use, keep it out of sight when you're in line until right when you get up to the checkout to use it, only bring it out at the last second and then put it BACK in hiding

Happened to someone in SC I know. I take her to shop every month. At the check out there was no money. They sent a new card. She called the night before and her regular amount was pending. We planned to shop at 9am. It was gone. At 4:15 am they were spent in NJ. We got a third card sent. I went online for her and locked it until we were in checkout.

I was just about to comment asking the same thing if you can lock the card like a credit card. This is the only way to protect!!!! Lock and then right before check out , unlock card. After purchase lock it again until you use it again and repeat. Sad and inconvenient but works. You can do this with with credit cards and credit reports. Heck if your bank allows...do with your debit card too.

The problem though is that if you use the connect EBT card, they hit you with frequent pin change walls and then it can be a HEADACHE just to get through it because you keep getting error after error after error despite your PIN and other credentials being RIGHT When I got rid of that particular app, I had no more headache and was RELIEVED when it was GONE DON'T GET ME WRONG, the app was fun to use when it was working RIGHT UNTIL you had to go through that by design headache that put you through so much of a hassle that you finally got rid of the app once you got your card unlocked Imagine trying to unlock your card at checkout, ONLY to be hit with that account pin change wall that you CAN'T BYPASS, and it happens at the WORST possible time! If you use the connect EBT app and haven't run into that problem yet, just you wait, YOUR turn's coming! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

My mom’s food stamps were stolen too. She gets about $200 a month. All gone! She lives in Oklahoma. She was able to have the food stamp office resend her the food stamp money 2 weeks after she went to complain at the food stamp office. Now she is paranoid they will take steal her food stamp money again. It’s a huge help for her. That happens to her last month. They sent her a letter showing someone from NY stole it and they used her pin too. So we don’t know how they did that.

Some places have something called "skimmers" on the machine where they swipe their card. So when that happens it also records the pin when they enter it in. She also needs to guard her card when she takes it out to pay. Because if they are standing close enough to her in line they could see the number and then watch her put in her pin. Does she have someone who can go with her or possibly shop online and just go to pick it up?

I'm in the state of Alabama and it just happen to me on the 4th of January. I end up spending half of my stamps before they took the other half. I went back try to order something and my amount was zero and I was wondering what happen to mines because I knew I left some on my card. Both transaction of $83.00 and $67.00 both was taking from a store in New York as I called the 1800 number they told me where it taking place at. I can't get it back because they stop giving away the stolen benefits but it still happening to people all around the world. I said it from the beginning it's an inside job. Now it'nothing can be done for our stolen benefits even though I can't get it back. I'm still going to the food stamp office to sign an affidavit because with enough signatures an investigation got to happen!!

I heard a news report 2.days ago that this is also happening in TX and the same thing, no replacement benefits. The issue was in NY also.Lastly, ok person said they would lock their cards until they arrived at the store, then when they were checking out, they would unlock it and pay, then immediately lock it back. This may be a way to prevent theft. I'm sure this has to do with organized crime some how of criminal gangs out of NY.

But there's a problem though with the connect EBT app that lets you lock and unlock your card: You can be hit with an account pin change demand at the worst possible time, and the CHECKOUT is NO PLACE to be hit with THAT! I'VE been hit with that type of walL MORE THAN ONCE, AND EACH TIME it was a HEADACHE JUST TO GET THROUGH THE PROCESS OF CHANGING MY PASSWORD, ONLY TO LOGIN TO NO AVAIL to the website, try to RESET MY PASSWORD, BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN THAT AND THE APP TO NO AVAIL The problem ended when I ditched the app and just left the card unlocked, I had to because it was only stressing me out My credentials were right, but that didn't matter I think they designed the software like this to give you such a headache you won't deal with the app or try to reset your password, if they at least that's what it seems like to me because that's the message that's coming across to me They don't want you using the app at all, and that's the message I'm getting

It happened to someone I know on 3 separate occasions. It is absolutely an inside job. The employees of DHR know this. They are not allowed to say they know but they strongly hint at it when you report it to them. The person I know it happened to lives in the south and his card was used in Bronx, NY. A place he has never been. He had to wait 16 days before his card was replaced and it came with no funds on it. After calling the state office to report no funds on the card , it took another 5 days to get the card loaded. Finally, he took his card and bought $153 in groceries and went back 10 days later to get milk and bread and it had been stolen again. He keeps his card in his wallet and no one knows his pass code but him. It’s got to be an inside job. This is infuriating to me. 😡

Google your state and see how to lock your EBT card. You can lock it and then unlock it when you need to use it. It differs from state to state. So make sure you are checking for your state.This EBT theft thing has been going on for almost a year that I know of. You would think the people in charge of delivering them to the appropriate people would stand behind them if they were stolen but they don't anymore. The program to reimburse folks who stamps were stolen ended December 20, 2024.

She has 8 kids so if someone took hers she would really be in trouble. I wish there was a way to lock it completely until you needed to use it. But the problem is that the lock feature isn't even in the EBT app, there's a separate app for THAT There are supposed to be security features within the EBT app, but there's NOT The Kinect EBT app puts you through such a headache that you have to go around in several hours of a circle just to get your pin changed only to get error after error after error after error after error, RIGHT when your card happens to be LOCKED Personally I'm getting the message that the software is designed to put you through this kind of headache by design by making you change your password frequently, or you can't access your account with your card locked It takes several hours sometimes just to get through the process and facing error after error after error despite my credentials being right and despite trying to come up with a new password, just to UNLOCK my card! One time i had such a HEADACHE I ALMOST requested a NEW CARD! 😡 I went through all of that headache just to UNLOCK my card I don't think they want us using the app at all, that's the message I'm getting They shouldn't randomly hit you with an account pin change, they should let you decide on your own when to change your PIN If they really cared about US they'd LEAVE the CHOICE up to US It didn't take long to get so bad to just go ahead and leave the card unlocked and ditch the app I didn't have no choice because it was going to rob me of my health, I don't need that

It happened to me 3 months in a row. Each time my benefits left my account within 30 min of it being posted. Each time they were used in different states than the state I live in according to the transaction history. Each time the benefits were eventually replaced but not at 100% and not right away so I had to use cash, which meant a bill or 2/3 didnt get paid or was weeks late along with late fees. It tooks months to get my bills paid at the right time.

A friend who cares for her disabled brother asked me for my advice on what to do with his SNAP benefits because other people in our south GA community had this happen. I told her I would go online and fill my Walmart cart with a months worth of groceries and as soon as the benefits were loaded on the card checkout. We did this and thankfully she is secure in the fact that her pantry is full for this month. This is her plan for future months. This is happening in more states other than GA.

This is an excellent reason to grow your own groceries when you can. Instead of a pretty plant in a pot, put a tomato plant in it! We have a LOT of credit card fraud in California. The thieves place a card reader/copier thingy, that's an exact copy of a machine, on the key pad and swipe slot. You can't tell by looking at it. I always grab it and pull and wiggle it, before I run my card. That's why so many machines have a piece of security tape across it. In our business, I don't have "security tape" so I put one of our business stickers on it, so you know it hasn't been tampered with. Now days, if you don't protect you, nobody will.

I am in Belleville, Illinois and I tried to make a purchase on my link card through Walmart on January 6th. Mind you, I'm 62 years old with an autistic child. So I tried to get a few groceries before the snow storm came and I'm still waiting for Walmart to deliver my groceries. They're saying my groceries were delayed. So I reached out to them, the 2nd day and ask him if they could just cancel the order.And I would go to another store.They told me they couldn't do that And my order would be delivered Within forty eight hours it's now january 10th and I haven't heard anything from anybody and it's still saying on my walmart site that the orders delayed. I've never had this happened before but I wouldn't be ordering from them again.

My niece was the only one that they replaced her Benefits because she had the app and call the day it happen ..she said she went to the store that morning to pick up a few things for breakfast and went back to the store after work and nothing was left on her card. When they hack them , the purchases are never done in your state, so new york snap recipients have their stamps stolen in other states that's why snap has suggested to lock your card for out of state transactions on the app but they should also allow it to to be locked and unlocked like a debit after every transaction

They are going to have to use all their stamps as soon as they get the stamps. My friend had her stamp stolen n it said NYC too. The system got hacked for sure.

Cyber crimes are common. I have my suspicions about the root cause of these crimes given it is being spent in NY. The state has a duty to report the fraud. Push it. The criminals need to be prosecuted and the benefits returned. Tell the non caring reps you are getting a lawyer. Who knows.........could be an insside job!

I heard that tapping a card is not secure, that the transaction remains open on the inside and the tech recommendation is to swipe, not tap, and be sure to take your paper receipt.

We signed up last September because of me being disabled and my husband being retired ( we've never ask for help until now) and we received $107.00 a month which is a big help to us. In December I checked my balance on the day I got it at 7:00 a.m. all mine was gone before i spent anything. It went to a place called Nice Town grocery store in Philadelphia. I still have not received the ones that was stolen but I did go in and lock my card. So hopefully this month they won't get stolen.

This scares me because me and my husband for 2 months out of the year which is right now are on food stamps cuz he does concrete so I would be devastated if I woke up and I was expecting to go grocery shopping and there was nothing on there cuz we depend on it like I said for two months of the year while he's laid off I wouldn't know what to do....we seriously depend on them

It's been going on for a few years now. The state of Oklahoma was so bad last year, that they aired it on the news. I think they were telling people to change their pin right before the money hit the account (if I'm not mistaken).

Such a sad thing and so horrible to those who count on the Snap benefits. I used to be on food stamps many years ago when I was a single mom to a girl. Back then it was much safer than it is today because the internet was not so big. I often said years ago that doing things online was not going be a good thing because I knew that trouble would come from it. Not just the hacking but lots, and lots of other stuff that goes on online that is horrible. Do they really try and find those people who steals things like this? I sure hope so. They need to be caught.

Hello so I live in Cincinnati Ohio my benefits was stolen back in June they did say it was a store in New York but Ohio do put your benefits back on your card and here in Cincinnati we do not go to the Arab store because they are the one doing it.

States can not replace them because its a federal program, funded by the USDA. Each state is issued the amount they are supposed to issue, plus a set new isdue amount which also covers emergency, but that is for new recipients. Replacent requires tje report of theft to be filed, a forn to be filled out, and federal decides if they will be replaced. Not the state. If its mass theft, dont expect them to be replaced. At least not the full amount. Possibly $99, the last I heard about it. The 3 letter agencies are trying to catch them, but its hard because the card reader can be in Georgia, but the person getting the info and making the clone card can be anywhere. So, if the people have them stolen, and only used their card at 1 location, that is where the theft occurred! The card reader is in that store, at the machine they swiped their card in.

They have card readers like credit card. When you swipe the food card they get the numbers and use it. Like the credit card. Becareful when you swipe your food card that it doesnt have a card reader placed inside
